"I kinda want to grab Immortals Fenyx Rising..." DO grab IRF! It is a really great charming game available at a great price! Eastern Realm DLC also worth it (other dlc not worth it imo).
8/10 all day long!
I got used to demos being an increasingly rare thing on PC, so I always forget that loads of games on Switch have downloadable demos. I really should just download the demo and give it a try!

Everyone kept saying 'it's good, just not quite as good as Breath of the Wild / Tears of the Kingdom'.
I like Zelda of the Ocarina/Windwaker era, so I was quite excited when my son got BotW for xmas as it meant I got to try it too. And then I really didn't like it for some reason I can't quite put my finger on. Just overwhelming I think.
So now I'm wondering if a game that's similar but 'not as good' as a game i didn't like would be better or worse for me. But, yeah, must remember demos are a thing!

In my case I finished IFR over the course of a month or so.
BoW (not played sequel yet) I have played 3 times and bounced off between 10-20hrs in every time.
Main reasons in my case… - BoW Switch docked performance good not great while IFR performance on PS5 bar occasional fps dips in fights very good - I like IFR graphical style as much if not more than BoW - IFR had a more linear and less sporadic storyline imo - IFR puzzles were mostly fun and well delivered. BoW puzzles are fine but I found the indoor only style of shrines more repetitive than IMF seamless outdoor shrines - IMO the character control in IMF is better than BoW - imo the arcade focused combat in IMF is better than the more complex combat of BoW while also feels a bit tricky to me (but maybe I’m just a newb) +++ I generally don’t like survival style gaming so BoW’s breakable weapon system to me SUCKS. If they ever release a new version of the game with an option to toggle weapons to unbreakable quite frankly take my money again so I can actually enjoy the game properly! OR give me a difficulty slider so I can go story mode! 😉 ***guess my bottom line is maybe I will think BoW is the superior game once it is running @ 60fps docked on Switch 2 but until then I prefer IFR!

I think I just like the slightly more contained and authored style of the older Zeldas. (I played a bit of Twilight Princess after bouncing off TotK and enjoyed it a lot more, though I didn't get very far due to all the text being in Japanese).
TotK just seemed to have too many options. Too much of everything. Too many horse types. Too many armour types. Too many weapon types that you're constantly mixing together. Too much on the map. Etc..
Even just watching my son play it stressed me out. (He loved it and absolutely rinsed it though).
I'm on-and-off playing Skyrim at the moment, which is an open world game with loads of content, but I don't get the same effect. It's just chilled out and relaxing, so I'm not really sure why TotK wound me up. (Link's stupid anime voice notwithstanding)
[edit] IFR does look very Fortnite, especially with the Olympus theme the current season has

Started Immortals of Aveum thanks to ps+. Completed the first 2 chapters, which are more like tutorials, but I have enjoyed what I have played so far, get to spend some serious time with it over the weekend. Jasmine from Angel is in it, (she looks just like the actress) playing Kirkan. I am also trying to summon the strength to continue my "put on back burner" run on Kingdome come D, but I'm not feeling confident due to how a lot of the game/game mechanics are nails!

The IFR demo seemed good to me, only the combat looked like enemies would take forever to die, so I dropped it very quickly. Maybe I need to give it another chance.

I really enjoyed IFR and went through the all the dlc too. Conversely, I really can’t get into Zelda BoTW although I can see the obvious similarities. For the price you can pick it up these days it’s a no brainer.

I tried a few more of those itch.io games, some small walking simulators and such. Found nothing special this time around, though "Human" was effective as a horror game. Too many jumpscares and a silly ending, but decent atmosphere. Just about 15 minutes long.
"Bernband" wasn't really for me either. Found the soundwork to be pretty annoying and the aimless wandering pointless.

Been having a lot of fun with The Planet Crafter. Its a neat crafting/survival game where you land on a desolate Mars-like planet and are tasked with terraforming it for life. At the default settings its very chill, with little consequences for dying/inefficiency beyond things taking a bit more time. Its really good watching the planet gradually change from a dusty rock into a lush green paradise.
For a game that was meant to be a little side thing as a break from FF7 Remake, I've somehow spent 50+ hours in it.

I'm almost out of demos in which I have any form of genuine interest, so I'm revisiting a few that I've played before:
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin - this game's a hot mess. The writing is dumber than a MAGA convention; the acting is actually fine, although Troy Baker and Laura Bailey couldn't save this script; and as I've said before, the graphics look like my ass.* Thing is, the combat is really good, while the loot system seems to dwarf that of Nioh. Throw in FF's robust job system and there's a fair bit of depth here.
Like a Dragon: Ishin! - as much as I wanted to love this game, I can't get over how clunky the combat is (which is especially unfortunate in what's billed as a 'combat demo'). Only the Wild Dancer style, using a revolver and a katana, feels in any way fluid; Swordsman feels like swinging your weapon through molasses, Gunman is just plain goofy, and Brawler is almost useless outside of getting easy parries.
Stellar Blade - three weeks since I last played the demo, and one week away from launch, I'm still not sure how I feel about this. It certainly isn't the fact-paced hack and slash game for which I'd hoped, but nor does it feel as deliberate as FromSoftware's titles; instead, it occupies a strange middle ground, as though the devs couldn't decide whether they wanted to make DMC or Dark Souls and tried to split the difference.
* To be clear, the link does not lead to a picture of my ass - as my probation officer has made abundantly clear, no-one wants to see that.

After the wonder of Dragon's Dogma 2 I have turned to Enshrouded. Still needing that exploration, whats-around-the-corner, type thing. Not sure any FontGeekers are/have played it but I loved Valheim and this seems in the same vein. I just love open world games.

The Skyrim Diaries - Day 27
Tried to climb a very high mountain. Got near the top and ran into an Ice Troll (or something similar) that kicked my ass. Had to run away like a headless chicken. Accidentally fell into a long ravine and landed next to a confused looking Mountain Goat.
No way to climb out of the ravine, so I have to follow it into the unknown on the other side of the mountain. Mara protect me!

I finally got around to giving Gotham Knights a go.
Holy deformed default deadzone settings!
After immediately increasing the camera control sensitivity from the 20's to the 50's along with a bunch of other settings tweaks and re-mapping a few things, I realised that underneath the fiddly as hell combat controls and the absolutely godawful, bargain basement voice acting, there might actually be a pretty decent game to be had here.
Seriously though, that voice acting. Just... wow.

Culpa innata
I remember why I got it so long ago. The story is really strong and so are characters. At least so far for me but that's also a word on the net.
What I didn't expect is how much running there is. So many many empty spaces. Generally each screen in adventure games would have something to do, to read, to collect. Each serves a purpose.
But not here.
Spoilers for first five min.
You need to find your electronic personal assistant in first few min.
You leave office and go through empty halls. To second level to talk to guy who supposedly took it. During conversation you find it on the ground.
If you know exactly what to do you would beeline and in 1 min you are done.
But if you don't it took me like 20 minutes just running as area is big but so empty. And yet nothing to do in any of the corridors. Little lore only.
Same later in city. To get to station you got to run for some time with nothing to do through town.
So far most of gameplay is just running. Hopefully I won't get tired of it.

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 (GP)- more of the same, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. My god the story is awful!
Sifu (PS+) - parry timing isn't clicking with me and I have a feeling I wouldn't have even made it past the botanist boss on normal mode. As it was I used up an embarrassing number of lives on him... Seems decent so far anyway.

Is HWU2 a big improvement over HWU1? Cos #1 is often discounted to dirt cheap recently (on switch, which doesn't have Game Pass)

Mainstays (dipping in and out of others though): Xbox X KCD: decided to "give it a proper go" and I am glad (so far) it is really great.
Mad Max: post campaign "mop" up trying to clear the map as I enjoy the world and atmosphere Botany Manor: my current daily gamepass quest game, so I unlock a quest and leave until I repeat next day (I did this with Ravenlok, Brotato et al)it is charming however.
MP Gears 3 daily and just getting back into Titanfall 1 again, my fav mp game after Gears.
PS5/ps4/ps3 Immortals of Aveum: Up to chapter 11, I like the combat, not so much the traversal though.
GOT Iki Island: post campaign "mop" up trying to clear the map as I enjoy the world and atmosphere.

Grounded (Series X)
I spent an hour playing it this morning, but it just felt like busy work. A lot of collecting. Way more crafting than I expected. A constant need for food and water, which requires constant foraging. I get tasks listed in the top left corner that require me to so things I’ve already done, like craft armour.
Maybe I’m just not in the right mood for this kind of thing at the moment.

Bill in the rain it feels like more of an expansion than a new game so far. I'd say grab #1 if it's cheap and wait for a sale on #2 if it floats your boat.

Manor Lords
Just started it... Corrrrr, only put an hour or so in, but it's firing all those city-builder synapses. Lovelyyyyy watching your village unfurl organically. The music, graphics and general vibes are soothing. A nice relaxing play (so far).

Decided to abandon Sifu on the second boss and picked up a fresh game of Cyberpunk 2077 instead. Looks decent on series X even without Ray tracing shenanigans. I guess I could've played on PC again, but I just don't have the enthusiasm for desk based gaming these days.
Loving it so far anyway and already looking forward to the DLC

The aiming with controller felt off for me on XSX regardless of how I fiddled with the settings, it's why I haven't gotten far through it yet.
