Hi all,
I've done the basics like clearing the CMOS (even removed the battery).
I tried going into the advanced options in Windows but the PC won't boot into it.
I now just removed the GPU driver and tried to reboot but now I'm stuck on a black screen. The motherboard LEDs flicker from VGA, CPU, BOOT and RAM to finally clear but the damn thing still won't post or boot into Windows.
Any advice is much appreciated.

Is your PSU up to the task of your mighty new GPU?
Are you absolutely sure you've seated the card in properly?

Yeah, it it's seated correctly and connected correctly, my first thought would be power.

What model motherboard + GPU? Does it boot OK without the GPU plugged in? Are you plugging in the PCI-E cables? MSI MPG B550 (mini ITX) AMD 5800X 32GB DDR4 3600 I had to RMA my 3080 (the displayports stopped working) and am using a spare GTX 950. When I put in the spare GPU it would boot straight into Windows and skip the BIOS screen. This bothered me so I tried to fix it (first by going into Windows itself then by clearing the CMOS). I then thought that it must be a driver issue so I used DDU (display driver uninstaller) to remove the Nvidia driver. This seems to have bricked it: it won't POST, won't go into BIOS and won't boot into Windows anymore. I think the only solution is to reinstall Windows but that's too much of a faff. |

Is your PSU up to the task of your mighty new GPU? Are you absolutely sure you've seated the card in properly? It's an SFX 850W PSU. If it could handle a very hot RTX 3080 I'm sure a GTX 950 won't be too much trouble. And yes, triple checked everything was installed correctly. The GPU is seated and powered. |

i guess any chance you can try it in another PC, it's going to be either duff card or duff 'puter (or duff settings) - narrow it down some?

Maybe check the cable connections on the PSU to rule that out - make sure there isn't an issue there like a short or melted socket on the PSU or GPU power cables?

I'd reinstall windows, bit of a faff as you say but takes 10 mins these days.
Should at least POST long before it loads windows though 🤔

It's annoying because my dumb ass installed my most played gamed on the boot drive, so reinstalling means losing everything. That's at least 500GB and with a data cap (Belgium sucks for this very reason) it's annoying. |

How are you connecting to your monitor ? Have you tried HDMI just to rule out the DP sockets.

At this point, the usual advice should apply, I'd say. Disconnect everything bar the cpu and a single ram stick and see if it posts. I don't think that Ryzen has a GPU built-in, so you need to keep the 950 in and hope it's ok.
Edit: if it still doesn't, swap the ram stick for another.

Too bad your CPU has no onboard graphics. Gotta try with another GPU, maybe buy a cheap one off ebay near you. Or order one at a store with possibility for returns. |

As others say, probably best to check another GPU. Having said that, I also had an issue when I upgraded my CPU where it wouldn't post and the LEDs indicated it was a GPU fault. Turned out it was actually the new CPU (after I replaced the mobo for a more expensive one that had 2 7-segment displays for errors). So, I guess if you just have the basic LEDs, than it isn't always accurate.
If it isn't reaching the BIOS I would say it is almost certainly hardware related, so don't worry about drivers or your Windows install until you can check the components, with GPU being mostly likely, but mobo or CPU also being possible.

Did you get a post screen prior to pulling it? Motherboard logo before the windows loading circle? Might simply have been your keyboard wasn't registering at that time.

Might simply have been your keyboard wasn't registering at that time. I didn't get a post screen at all, just straight into Windows. The GPU works on another PC so that's not the issue. I personally think it's a driver issue that I compounded by manually uninstalling the driver and then using DDU again. Seems to have fucked shit up good. |

Windows drivers don't load until after the BIOS has posted, so no, it's nothing to do with any video driver you can install or uninstall.

I hate messing with flashing the bios, surely a spare hard drive can check a fresh win install and then get into the old boot drive and salvage that game install your afraid of losing.

It's more like a motherboard issue, I'm not sure how it was just dropping you directly into windows without posting in any way as that shouldn't be possible unless it's hibernating or sleeping instead of shutting down. |

deebs it even did so when I unplugged the PC from the mains and removed the CMOS battery. Just straight to windows, no BIOS flash page.
