Yes muted browns and greys are dull but it's also realistic. I'm certainly hoping there is variety in atmospheric conditions, weather and terrain but I don't need garish colours and artificial colour. Desolate places can be beautiful. You do you! But personally, if I'm getting 1000 planets of muted browns and greys I don't care how "realistic" that is. It isn't real life. It's a videogame, they can make anything they want to make.

For example I found the art design in Outer Worlds quite off-putting. I know the tone of that game was less serious but it didn't feel particularly 'space-y'. Is it realistic though? I’m struggling to think of a single real planet that isn’t boldly colourful, even if it’s only one colour. Red, Yellow, Purple, Swirly, even The Moon is a boldly bright shade of whitey-grey, which I recall the first Destiny game and Portal 2 captured well.

The premium edition upgrade is quite tempting if it's releasing here at 10am on a Friday... That seems to be a calculated decision of every early release I've seen. If you step back and think about it, it really is a scummy bit of manipulation. Why wait and start the game in the middle of the week like a schmuck when you could be playing it aaaaallllllllll weekend! It certainly worked for me with D4, anyway.

Oh don't get me wrong, I am completely aware that it is 100% foreseen and scummy as fuck and I don't begrudge anyone waiting. You, I, they all know that if it's good enough for 01/09 it can be released on that day without the need to wait until the next week whilst charging extra - and it is probably made worse by it being on game pass. It just happens to be in my case that I've had a really good run of late with being able to play games on/near release that I haven't for years (elden ring, diablo and potentially starfield) and I honestly couldn't tell you the next weekend until November that I'll have this kind of availability.

I have no idea what realistic is. Going on the images from the James Webb space is hugely colourful, but then a lot of that is non-visable wavelengths adjusted to visible spectrum. I guess I'm ok with colourful planets actually, but I'd like them to be vaguely based on the science. I'm cool with pretend science in a game too, it's a sci-fi after all. I just don't want Rainbow Castle. I agree Destiny did colour believably well. The yellowy sulphurous planet stands out as a good example.

As a general rule, and I know it's been back and forth multiple times on the forum - but I think the practice is disgusting and is an inherently bad thing for gaming as a whole. Next weekend just happens to align for me where others don't (at least not that I can plan around).

Same here. It could not be released at a more ideal time across about a 4 month period than that specific weekend. I'd be limited to an hour or two on weeknights otherwise. I can't wait to get stuck in for an all dayer, for the first time in ages. Please don't be shit. Maybe I should download BG3 as an emergency backup?

For the people on Xbox, you can buy the Icelandic version of the Premium upgrade edition for about £18.
Just sign in as normal and change region to Iceland down the bottom of the page, search Starfield Premium Upgrade and buy it as normal. No VPN needed and uses your method of payment you use on your account.

I thought this sort of thing required buying gift cards in the currency and paying with those.

Are any of you set to play under early access and on the pc version?
I'm interested in performance only and then I'm leaving the thread until I'm playing it

Hoping Todd Howard is the final boss of the game (giant floating head like from starfox) and spouting his lines eg "SIXTEEN TIMES THE DETAIL"
I am looking forward to the game, would be great if they evolved the mission design from go here and blow up X number of bad guys or acting like Fed ex

Will be hoping for at least a smooth 1440p60. Happy to report in on the day. Actually if you want to stay out of here entirely just PM me with any questions and I'll reply directly.

I'm not legitimising the selling of early access, which, nominally, is what the Premium edition is. Additionally, as a Game Pass subscriber, you could argue that I'm not getting the game "Day 1" as promised... The goalposts have simply been moved, and day 6 has been renamed "Day 1".

I was saying to Mrs Hermit that if I'd gone PS this gen, this is the game that would have me selling up and switching sides. It better be bloody good. I still play Skyrim most weeks, in fact I started a new game this morning.

It’sa heck of a risk to take on this particular developer too. This is the real problem. I remember playing skyrim at launch and being fucked over by quests that couldn't be finished, shit falling from space, NPCs that were invincible, getting stuck in between dimensions, etc. I hard passed on FO4 and should probably do the same here, but... I don't know. As much as it's a false equivalency, I've really enjoyed gaming recently in a way I haven't in probably a decade, thanks to Diablo (kinda) and BG3.

If I didn't have a decent PC I would have bought a Series X for this. Mind you, I'd like to think I'd have at least waited for some reviews first. I've got enough faith to spend £40 blind, but not £400.
There are very few developers left that could make me buy a console, in fact, Bethesda and Rockstar might be the only two. That being said Starfield needs to show that Fallout 4 was a blip rather than the start of a decline.
Other than about an hour of Skyrim PSVR, I haven't really played a Bethesda game since 2015.

I don't know why Bethesda is held in such high regard among some players. The last good game they made was Morrowind. I do thank them for making Fallout New Vegas possible, though.

Bethesda do make good games apart from fallout 76 (fallout 4 had its good points although it was a bit simplified)
Shame about the POS game engine they have used for years, its held their games back for years

With the kind of games they make, it might also be that a lot of people have played *one* bethesda RPG and gotten really into it.
If you're an old-school PC gamer it's a bit odd that they became quite so huge, because for the longest time they were a bit of a mid-tier company who put out a lot of mid-budget junk. I'd imagine even Daggerfall wasn't a massive hit.
But then somehow Morrowind and Oblivion seemed to catapult them into the beg leagues and mainstream success. I'm guessing partly because Morrowind released just after the xbox which opened it up to a much bigger potential audience.
I always kinda liked early Bethesda, as it felt like I was supporting an underdog who was trying to do things that were probably beyond their reach, but the were at least trying.
In some ways they haven't changed at all, despite somehow becoming huge. It's just hard to imagine the makers of Battlespire and Redguard, and the publishers of XCar an Echelon becoming this AAA company.
Terminator Future Shock is still one of my all time favorite games though, and I guess the Elder Scrolls ones aren't bad.

I'm enamored with their games potentiality and general vastness, but they do often feel like they're held together with spit and bits of string. And gosh-darn they can feel a bit dry and samey, like someone is pouring endless uncooked Smash into my mouth.
