Lol, Swedish public broadcaster's stream died in the middle of the encore. Someone didn’t buy enough time on the satellite. Eurovision always overruns. Always has, always will

The audience vote in the arena was clearly for Finland. Sweden was ok, but lacking in Euro magic. Hey ho. Roll on next year

Didn't understand the hype for the Swedish song during the performance and still don't get it. Thought it was pretty average. Also don't know how Ukraine scored so low. Thought the song was legitimately pretty good (probably too good for Eurovision). Also liked the Belgium one, which came nowhere. Austria weirdly grew on me the more they played it. Nah Belgium did pretty good. If you finish near the top five it’s a good result and they got at least three douze points from the juries.

I'm still trying to understand why the semis were audience-only voting but the final still had to have juries tbh. Just do one or the other all the way ffs

All the points should have gone to the Iceland representative. He is my new God.

Well done Sweden, you clearly pulled the big guns out aiming for the 50th anniversary of Waterloo and it paid off. I'm sure that fact in NO WAY influenced the jury vote. No way at all.

The thing about Eurovision is you just can’t take it seriously. If you try, you’ll have a bad time.
My family can’t enjoy it because the UK never win and because they’re a bit gammony.

Although I do think Sweden could have farted into a microphone for three minutes and they’d have still won.
Croatia basically did that this year and still finished ahead of the UK.

Croatia was the best. Iceland's judge was a highlight. UK entry was pitchy. I now have a crush on Mel to go with my longstanding one on Sue.

Its a shame Iceland’s actual entry was so bland this year when we had a return of their 2019 anti-capitalist BDSM industrial metal entry for the results and a real showstopper from their 2020/2021 entry in the songbook interval act

Watched some of acts but went to bed before the scores came rolling in. Loved Finland's entry. Was a bit bemused by Sweden's entry. She could sing but I can't say I enjoyed it. Surprised by its popularity with the jury but the Abba thing now makes sense.

Sweden does feel more like the sort of thing that would usually win but I think there’s legs to the Abba-spiracy when the support for Finland seemed so overwhelming.
Loreen’s last win was a much better song than this time

Ah, just remembered what the repeated melody in that Loreen song reminded me of, it's quite a similar chord progression to Daft Punk's "Doing it Right" - www.youtube.com/watch?v=LL-gyhZVvx0Tbf it's the type of chord progression you can hear other places too. So it's not a particularly original song.

To be fair, most of the songs on eurovision nowadays are slight rip offs of other songs.

To be fair, most of the songs on eurovision nowadays are slight rip offs of other songs. For years everyone was sending big voiced dance tracks that sounded like Cascada and when Germany finally just sent Cascada herself she did shit. Having two acts do Rammstein bits last night was a surprise though.

Me and Mrs Shark had a debrief this morning and both agreed the whole thing would be a lot more fun if they could trim it down to a three hour event. The voting has always been painful (how did we ever survive when they read out every point?) but basically necessary. More countries need to be eliminated at the semis. Make it about fifteen teams in the final and it would help make things a bit more brisk.
I can only assume the arena audience didn’t flag because there’s been a resurgence in Liverpool’s ecstasy trade.

Mae Muller: Why did the UK do so badly at Eurovision? www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-65586989It's a complete mystery how someone who can't sing live does badly at a live singing event. I know the BBC probably has to try and come up with reasons for the failure but this article is crap and opens with a lie "Sam Ryder ended the UK's losing streak in Turin last year" so maybe they should have done better too?

I have to confess to watching this last night - under duress / the Mrs made me / I wouldn’t normally…
Anyway, while I feel bad for Mae Muller, I do think our entry was hyped up to be more worthy than it actually was. The song has a decent verse but the chorus of “Na Na”s was weak. Basically, other countries had better songs and better performances (visuals / choreography). A mid table finish would’ve been fair.
I’m not convinced Sweden was all that great but… well, whatever.
Biggest smile of the evening for me was Germany. A good death metal growl was never going to win them points, but was far better than Croatia for crying out loud.

It's a complete mystery how someone who can't sing live does badly at a live singing event. The other half was lucky enough to watch some of the rehearsals and, by all accounts, last night was by far her best performance. She just can’t sing live. It’s not some big conspiracy, it’s just that when you stack her up against someone like that girl from Norway, she was nowhere near good enough.

Yeah, Muller was just not on the same level as any of the other performers. Even the coupler of acts I actively disliked had more presence.

Norway was an absolute belter. I’d have taken that over Sweden.

I don’t know why the UK doesn’t give a more open selection process another go. Every act we send is just some variation on the X-Factor template. Even Sam Ryder was just doing the same ‘big singing’ that shows like The Voice, Idol and X-Factor favour.
If we’re not going to win lets at least be interesting.
I honestly think if he wasn’t already a tik tok thing that that Sam Ryder song would have sunk like the rest.

Although I think Eurovision parties are more and more of a thing now, so a 5 hour event that you can dip into at different stages is quite handy
