So, uh... Am I missing something or was their big Tuesday reveal actually just a rehash of the previous two trailers with some commentary? Because if so... I am really hoping they're showing a very early build (as in, a year ago) for some reason, otherwise I cannot wait to see the meltdown Although I still don't understand why they'd show an early build in the first place, or why they'd wait until the third video to actually give some context to what we're seeing. Very bizarre marketing... Note also the seagull outspeeding the Fastest Thing Alive™ without even flapping its wings I think this is it, this is what you're getting. I mean, if that's what I'm getting then I'm not getting it, so The "early build" thing sounds like a half-baked excuse, though. It would be acceptable if it was the first trailer for a game coming out in, say, three years (see Kingdom Hearts 4, which looked much better than this to boot), but Battlefield 2042 and most famously Cyberpunk both went down that route and we know how that turned out (at least on release, I hear Cyberpunk is actually decent now) Not to sound like a broken record, but I still think the idea could be good, and I'm still hoping this ends up good... I just have little faith (based on what they've shown) that they will actually make it good. Edit: for the record, unless they were paid to lie about it, this is an early build, not just wishful thinking on my part. It was mentioned I think around the third minute of the video. Supposedly some of the bad stuff we're seeing has already been tweaked. Not that that explains why they'd show off said supposedly fixed issues as if they were still there, mind...

They say it's not an open world game, rather it's an open zone game, as open world games have rpg elements.
And then they say you collect items in order to upgrade a skill tree...

Ha fucking hell they've leaned into the worst excesses of open world bullshit. Also I remember BF2042 with all the talk of 'early build' and look what happened there.

Unsurprising though, I think there are some issues with the music being written by Jackson.
They've skirted around re-releasing 3&Knuckles officially for a while.
I would like to know which tracks are impacted though, might make the decision to buy for me (I'm on the fence as it is).

A good majority of them had the MJ samples, ranging from the Dangerous to the HIStory period.

Yeah it's not a total surprise and was hinted at shortly after the game was announced but still disappointing.

Ah, that's a shame. I'd figured they'd sorted the soundtrack since it'd been so long since an S3&K release. Definitely impacts on if I'll buy or not

Easy Allies' was pretty positive as well, but the footage still looks bland. Bloodworth even mentioned watching Moore playing and not being too excited about it, so it might be a you need to experience it for yourself game.

Possibly the end credit music affected too.

Ah, I didn't think Carnival Night Zone was a particularly great track and I can only recall the opening few bars for Launch Pad Zone, so I don't have any strong feelings towards those.
Ice Cap Zone is one of my favourite tracks in the game though, that will be pretty disappointing.

Shame about the music but not surprising. Imagine it's a legal nightmare especially now MJ is dead.
Sounds like a faithful recreation of the music is being done but will be a bit jarring. Who knows might even be better.

Issue was Jackson hated the tracks as he thought the sound was terrible and wanted nothing to do with the project.

Yes, yes it was youtu.be/H2OWC5Hosv8

I don't mind the launchpad zone music tbh, might even prefer it, based on the best short snippet.
Icecap zone is a real fucker though.

Surely they could have got round the copyright by changing the melody slightly etc etc

It'll likely be the S&K boss music used for both. I'll be playing it on Thu so will let you guys know what has changed.

The 'remaster' of the first one sounds a lot worse than the prototype version, like it's being played underwater
I'm nowhere near as familiar with Sonic 3 as I am with Sonic 2 so can't say I'd even notice if I hadn't known about it beforehand. Some of the new ones sound pretty catchy

Sonic 3 and Knuckles are my least favourites, so I am ok with whatever they do with the music. If Sonic 1 or 2 had music changes though, I don't think I could play them.

I know the answer to this but why the didn't they get the guys that put Sonic Mania to make the new tracks if they gave any sort of dusty fuck about the product they're putting out?

Carnival and Ice Cap replacements are shocking - the instrumentation sounds a generation behind.

Yeah, just set my timezone on the Xbox to New Zealand and can play it now. Carnival Night, Ice Cap and Launch Base all swapped out. Boss music and End Credit music is just the S&K versions.

The guy that did the audio for Sonic Mania was just working on the TMNT game.

I caved and ended up getting Origins. Quite nice seeing the game in widescreen, even though it does make the first boss even more trivial as you can just stand in the corner and avoid getting hit.
Would have been nice to see the Master System / Game Gear games, and maybe even Sonic Spinball and Sonic 3D (which Origins references as two of the menu islands are based on those games).
The special stages are a lot smoother though, which is pretty cool.
