Please share game-related videos that you like. Can be documentaries, in depth nerding out on old games, ludicrous speedruns, whatever you think is shareworthy.
I'll start with a few:
The story of Tetris
Why 8-bit games still look great
The Animation of Mega Man
Quake Done Quick
Half-Life in 20:41

I really don't get the point in speed run videos at all. What is the point?

I really don't get the point in speed run videos at all. What is the point? Depends on the methods and what you're into I guess. I'm not that keen on the exploit stuff (but I enjoy knowing how they do it), but someone doing a skillful run of something tough, I can enjoy that. They're also a big source of the GDQ thing, which raises a lot of money for good causes

I can find it great fun to watch e.g. a section in Half-Life that took all of us 5-10 minutes being cleared in 1 second. Watching grenade jumps in fucking Half-Life, or the trickery with climbing over your wall-mounted mines. And of course the grenade jump skills on display in Quake, and the absurdity of finishing an entire level in like 8 seconds. I don't know, I just find it very entertaining.

Speed running the boat section in HL2 is a good one

I'm not really a fan of deconstructing games. I generally play them for fun and don't really want to see behind the curtain. One of the worst things I did related to gaming was to take an interest in level editing around Quake 3 time because I can't unsee how it's made now. Whenever I look at an FPS, I see levels, models, textures, etc
Speed running, breaking games, etc is the same
I remember reading one of my brother's Xbox magazines once and there was a guide for KOTOR in it that detailed all the best stats/skills/weapons, etc and I remember feeling like it'd completely dispelled the magic of it. I couldn't see any point in ever playing the game after reading that
It's why I haven't looked up anything about Borderlands 3. When I did look something up, all the results were '10 best weapons in the game' or 'How to make the perfect build', etc. It's quite reductive
I think it's cool if people want to speed run stuff like Quake but I wouldn't enjoy watching it. Finishing a level in seconds kind of misses the point of everything I love about the game

I'm the same. Min-maxing guides to play "the right way" seem pointless to me. If I'm not having fun playing the way I choose, I'd rather just drop the game.
I don't really enjoy watching people play games in general. It seems like a waste of time to me. I could either be playing the game myself, or watching something with substance like a film or tv series. About the only people I enjoy watching are the outsidexbox trio, because I like the dynamic, although even they lose some of their luster when it's only one of them.
I do enjoy watching videos about the production of games, or some insight on the producers and their studios. I guess it's like a spin-off of watching old DVD Making of features, which I've completely stopped in the blu-ray era.

Guides and speedruns are a completely different thing. Hate the former, quite like the latter (as long as no glitches are involved), each to their own though.
Also, the whole "why would I watch it when I could play it" sounds similar to my grandad telling me off for playing FIFA on the Megadrive when I could've been playing football outside, like a real boy!

I'd rather use a weapon or armour I like than one that's statistically the best. I'll be more invested and play better too, especially in stuff like Bloodborne or Dark Souls

I enjoy watching Lets Plays of story driven games or games I'm not interest in in term of gameplay but appeal for some other reason (as long as the people aren't annoying - 90% of the time they are) if the person is familiar with the games and has some insight to share. Don't have any interest in any of the people who just play and seem to love every big game that comes out. If I'm looking for someone playing a particular game, I'll always scroll down past all the same popular steamers
I can't stand live steams though. It's all 'thanks for the sub', 'thanks for the bits', 'a resub, thanks' incessantly. I don't see the appeal of those steams beyond 14 year olds who get a kick out of someone saying their username on something. The dynamic of thanking their fans for giving them money is also too weird for me

In the case of Half-Life or Quake speedruns, I don't feel like they take anything away from me and they don't change how I play them. I just find them entertaining to watch.
In the case of Borderlands 3, knowledge is everything. It was some sort of arms race between developers and pro players that ended up with Mayhem 10/11 giving enemies +10,000% HP. Maybe we're partially to blame for this. But there's something so satisfying about knowing and understanding every single nook and cranny about the game, especially if the mechanics are as complex as in BL3. People think of Borderlands as kind of stupid, but if you want to truly understand it it is actual rocket science.
The length we went into to deconstruct and understand all of its mechanics went so far that we realised how Gearbox tried to tackle a certain balance issue in a wrong way. We understood the issue and what caused it, while the developers themselves didn't and ended up doing a hack job that only made matters worse.
Enough of the elitism, what I still appreciate in a game is if it is somewhat transparent about its mechanics. Take a critical hit perk in a Bethesda game, from the in-game description you have no idea if this perk is OP AF or if it is completely useless. I want to make an informed decision and I hate when the game doesn't give me the most basic information I need.
So yeah, I do like to know how a particular game works. If "magic" means that I'm completely left in the dark and have no idea what choice to make when I'm supposed to make a choice, I hate that.

Re: Borderlands, that's way more involved than looking at build guides and stuff. What bothers me about that kind of thing is that if I look up the best build for Zane along with the best weapons to use, my only input then is literally time, which feels quite pointless. Even if a legendary drops, I'm only looking for one very specific weapon, which again defeats a lot of the moment to moment fun
I wouldn't trust a Bethesda game to function as intended anyway. Even if it did detail it in-game I'd be dubious

RadicalRex That wasn't a criticism of how you play or anything. Depending on how long I stick with it, I'll probably get more into the minutia. At the moment I'm happy just bumbling along using whatever I find and what skills seem good at the time I've just done Lectra again and the music there gives me serious Deus Ex vibes What's going on in that area just off the subway with 4/5 switches? I can't remember if it turns out to be part of a quest later on

It spawns One Punch, who may drop the legendary shotgun One Pump Chump. Maybe he's the target of some assassination bounty whatever job, but I don't remember either.

Since I'm going to lose all my progress when I move over to XSX, I'll probably go with Amara now
I also wanted to ask if you get enough Guardian Ranks to complete all the unlocks (on the right of the screen). I don't think you can reset them so I don't want to waste them. What are the most useful stats to boost?
Should probably start a BL thread if there isn't one already but it would just be me asking you things. I will make one if you don't mind that

I enjoy the odd Let's Player - SSohPKC, when he's between hiatuses, and FightinCowboy - and Mitten Squad's "Can you beat [X] while [Y]" challenge videos are pretty entertaining, but that's about it. (I used to enjoy Angry Joe's output, but it's wearing very thin indeed now, and I'm always on the brink of unsubscribing.)
This bit amused me, especially as it's such an unlikely confluence of events that you'd have to go out of your way to have the same experience while playing:

A compilation how it was released and how it was received in its initial state. Quite entertaining I daresay.

Honestly, that's the kind of Let's Player I can't stand. Shouty, not giving a shit about the game/story, 'Die, bitch blah blah blah'
Dishonoured deserves better

This is more the kind of thing I'd enjoy watching. His Silent Hill and Dark Souls Let's Plays are especially good (highly recommend the Silent Hill 2 one - it's full of interesting background and trivia). I'd avoid anything with Mike as they're quite different and a bit shit

Consolevania is up. It's a nice watch. youtu.be/-3pKj0By3kcAlso Aegon is getting into Elden Ring (eventually). If you're a big lore nerd ( suicida !) he's pretty great.
