Have had mine for a couple of days, it's been fun. Just randomly going through my steam library, there has been a surprising lack of fiddling with settings, and a lot of just playing games. Worst things so far have been the fan which I can hear through my earbuds, and the ridiculously short charging cable that is fixed to the charger. Is it camfffyy? No hand cramps so far, if anything it feels like an xbox deluxe controller in terms of weight and solidness.

Not that it makes any difference in performance if reviews are to be believed.

Still after Q3 for me My punishment for scoffing at those that rushed to put in orders before reviews came out.

Mine should be this week based on estimates, but they seem to be a total crapshoot. It’s Q2 anyway, 512.

There’s obvious benefits to waiting a bit. Sounds like software and potentially hardware updates will make a big difference.

This is based on just one user's review but is it true there's a horrible lag when connected to TV/monitor? (I might consider one Deck as a replacement for my ageing laptop in future, but would mostly use it as a console hooked to a monitor.)

First I've heard of that... Hope not as I'm planning on having mine plugged into the TV most of the time.

The TV connection part is supposed to currently be quite shonky, with lots of hit and miss when it comes to connectors. The dock isn’t out yet (potentially because of this) but it’s definitely something you’d hope is being addressed.

I'm liking the non patronising tone of the text boxes so far.

I kind of wonder if the "lag" people are seeing is more down to shoddy USB-C docks they're using rather than anything actually wrong with the Steam Deck.

The USB C on the Deck isn’t Thunderbolt so it’s not great for video anyway. Most C docks with video out are pretty awful if it’s not Thunderbolt, the bandwidth and power constraints are pretty limiting.

I'm liking the non patronising tone of the text boxes so far. Nice. From the description I assume you see the Linux Terminal after clicking OK and it whizzes through pages of updates?

Haven't seen a single line of Linux text so far, it went straight into this screen.

I should keep an eye out for the steam summer sale and hoover up some deals for when I get it.

One of the new Ayn Odin models might be good. It's reviewed really well. Not too expensive, 1080p screen, nicely made, and... Android OS with 5GHz wifi. I ordered one of these last week Where from, out of interest? --- My hype for the Steam Deck is gradually building as I get closer to possibly getting the order e-mail. Going by the steam deck estimate calculator, I'll be due to get the e-mail on 25 April. I know to take that with a pinch of salt, but going by (a) the rT reserve time code and (b) cross-checking that against those on Reddit who claim to have had their order e-mail, the end of this month sounds about right. FWIW I ordered the 512GB from UK at 18:29 on the day (not for a lack of trying earlier!). It's mad that reservations within the first half-hour aren't fulfilled nine months down the line.

I was looking at the Ayn Odin and bizarrely it has a 61Hz screen which means stutter in emulators. You had one job!!!!!!

Performance has been good so far, lowest I've seen it go in Village was 45. All default settings.

So, just did that Steam Deck calculator and turns out they are estimating a delivery by 31st July 2023.
I'm guessing that isn't going to be accurate. If it is though, I might as well just be waiting for a revised model.

My reserve time is bizarrely later than I actually ordered it and got the confirmation for ordering - it's the time they sent the email, not the time I actually reserved it, which, ironically, the email actually shows. Depending on the calculator they say in the next 22 or 13 days though.

I had the same estimate for the 256GB model that I reserved at 18:15 on the day. Just got my email and completed the purchase now, 11 days early 🥳 ...I'd say that the distribution is ramping up

I reserved my at 18:09 but still haven't got the email (in the UK), however, I think in their system it might have me as 18:25 because that's when I got the email saying I'd reserved it, even though said email says "18:09" in the text as to when I reserved it.
