I just discovered this thing called a credit card where you can buy stuff for free with it, so I just did that with the steam deck. So if I don't like it I can sell it and be up £500+

You get an exclusive steam profile portrait frame, how can you not buy it.

It was mainly the exclusive virtual keyboard theme that made me go for the extra £110.

Does the exclusive virtual keyboard theme allow the virtual keyboard to successfully register more than one key press per second?

Yeah, just read that you get 46GB of available space, and shader caches can burn thorugh it quickly... and won't even install to external memory. Sounds like a bit of a problem right now. Could still be useful as a retro portable machine, since I don't think old games create big shader caches. Though at that point, maybe an Aya Neo Air Plus would be enough (the Mendocino APU should be absolutely terrible for recent games, but might be enough for old stuff). I did some quick checking on my 512 deck, and with 20+ games installed (some to internal memory some to SD card) by extrapolation it would look like this on a 64g machine:
64GB would be reported as 59,6GB, subtract from that almost 11GB for the system partitions (there are two 5GB partitions where the actual system is, presumably used alternately on updates so you get a functioning system even if something goes wrong), which would leave just under 49gb for the steam and games partition. It looks like around 1.5% of that is reserved for fs use, so that leaves you with a bit over 48GB.
I now have some 1.3GB shaders cache and Steam created a 1.1GB swap file and it looks like Steam itself takes around 5GB (it seems a bit much, but is a safe bet).
So that leaves 40GB for games and Proton versions. Steam tells me recent Proton versions like 7 or Experimental are around 1GB each, so if you installed games exclusively to an SD card that would let you install some 40 different Proton versions, which you probably wouldn't do.
Of course, you also need space for whatever files the games create, including save games. Scratch that, game files and saves are kept on the SD card.
So it's all not terrible, not great.
I think Valve should offload as much as it can to the SD card, like splitting shader caches per-game (if they don't already do that) and keeping them and saves together with the game. Scratch that, as above. Shader cache is kept on the internal drive, probably for performance reasons, and the 1-2GB it'll take is not a very big deal.
As for Proton versions, these are used by multiple games, so if the SD card is removed Proton would disappear and would need to be redownloaded to internal storage to run any game installed there anyway. They could also do something about the Proton size itself.
All my hard work here could be invalidated in around 5 seconds by someone with a 64GB Deck taking a look at how much free space they have before installing anything...

There should be 5 people here who ordered the 64gb, if that survey is accurate.
But knowing our luck it was ecosse, lexw, RyanDS, rodimusprime, and ecosse.

Tick tock, cubby. Tick tock. I did it already! Now I'm impatiently checking my emails for updates in between adding games to my library.

You can move the shader cache to your SD card in desktop mode in the file manager and then create a symbolic link to the original folder. I’ve got a 64gb and all the shader cache stuff was really starting to piss me off. I think there’s also a setting in steam that disables the precaching of the shaders and just does it on the fly.

There you go, then.
Moving the cache is not something a regular user would be expected to do, though, so still an area Valve may improve.
As for disabling it completely, that’s just the road to stutterland, isn’t it?

I cancelled my 512 order and went for a 256. I had only ordered the 512 because I was worried about shaders and non-game files and I wasn't going to open the deck up to put a new SSD in.
However, I wondered if it was sensible to put the money into an SSD when we don't know how long the lifespan of the machine will be /when a replacement will come out.
I thought putting the saved cash into an SD card would make more sense. I can use that card elsewhere. Plus I was always going to use a screen protector, so the anti-glare would have been wasted.
I also only have 61 Steam games, so I don't have thousands of titles to put onto it.

Why am I so tempted to flip it, and then get a 256gb instead?

If it helps, the 512’s anti glare screen is better than the 256/64.
And you get a nicer case

Ah it's done now, I've got to have something to play monkey island on.
Am I going mad or is it really confusing trying to work out which hitman bundle is the one with everything?

Has anyone been able to stream Gamepass Ultimte PC games on their Deck? I believe the Xbox games are availble to stream, but maybe not the PC titles.

I think you'd need to look into booting Windows separately for the PC versions unless I'm mistaken. Pretty sure you can only stream the Xbox versions.
Tried the above Edge thing for streaming Xbox games and it worked flawlessly.

Unfortunately neilch, I think dfunked is right. From what I can glean by asking people, the Xbox versions of games are the only ones that you can stream. It gets a bit confusing if a game is on both Xbox and PC game pass, because people may think they are streaming the PC version but actually they are being served the Xbox version.
One chap I asked went into his game settings on the Deck and didn't have the range of PC settings that he would have expected, which pointed to it being an Xbox version of Halo.

Yeah, as far as I know, the Xbox Cloud servers are all running on Series S versions. So you are not going to get, for example, AOE4.

Had a different guy who got his young topless helper to deliver it. No burger for me, other than the beefcake display I got.
It feels nice doesn't it? They need to make the hori split pad pro that shape for the switch.

I think it would be weird for a controller to be in the shape of a shirtless man, but I am glad you enjoy the way it feels.

Starting to look at videos about getting more storage, may bump my 256gb up if I can find a decent 1tb nvme. Anyone here done it yet?

Seriously, just put in an SD card. There’s a perf difference I’m sure but it’s really imperceptible.
