Has it settled down with all the rule changing? I watched a couple of games over the long weekend and it seems to have mostly. There were perhaps a few loose pitchers that led to singles or walks. There was still the odd count violation (for a ball) and one disengagement violation, which meant everyone advanced a base (basically, a baulk). There's going to be more stolen bases, because runners know once a pitcher has thrown over once, they can't again and the larger bags are helping with that. Unless it's a really good pitch in the zone, it'll be difficult for catchers to throw them out in those situations. And there were a couple of double plays to the 3B/SS side of the infield that the runner at 1st reached which probably would have been outs last year.
Beyond that, it doesn't really seem that much different apart from slightly quicker games (like 45 minutes over 9 IP) when the score's low.

Split series in LA between the Cubbies and Dodgers this weekend, leaving both a game above .500. Dodgers have played a couple more, though. Decider at 9.10 UK tonight should be interesting.
After this Toronto - TB match, where Toronto broke the streak and handed the Rays their first losses of the season, back to back. 3-1 to Tampa right now in the revenge rubber.

Cubs win the Dodgers series 2-1, with a 3-2 rubber match victory. Urias' stuff last night was filthy... Until it wasn't. An error got Bellinger onto first and it really rattled the pitcher. Bellinger then stole second pretty much uncontested, got to 3rd on a ground ball to the 1st base side and scored when Urias fielded a ball that might have been better left to the 3rd baseman for the tying run. He then loaded the bases before getting Happ to ground out, but he was obviously wobbling.
Any other pitcher might have been pulled for the next inning, but he came out and fought his way to 2 outs, then got to 0-2 to Pat Wisdom, before giving up a huge go ahead homer on a hanging breaking ball and then another on the next batter to Bellinger.
Cubs offense is starting to look kinda legit, which I wasn't expecting so much.

I'll start with a couple of Dodgers things for Grem. Firstly, the words "more than a club/business" get thrown around a lot in sport. This really is just that. Picking up for your folks when it REALLY matters. I don't care who you support, this is good people. *sniff* Secondly, one of the best pitchers I've seen in the last 20 years reached 200 wins last night - only the 4th active pitcher to do that and one of very few ever to do it with just one team. He joins the Dons as 200 winner for the Dodgers, pretty elite company. Take a bow, Clayton Kershaw. That fastball, slider, mahooosive curve is a joy to watch.
Just for cement, he did it with a 7 inning, 9 strikeout, no run masterpiece.
Oh, and the Cubs keep rolling. Two in a row against the Athletics, Patrick Wisdom and Cody Bellinger starting to look dominant at the plate, Suzuki back at the plate (2-2 and 3BB last night) and oh, the best ERA in the National League. 10-6 and looking good.

Cincinnati Reds rookie pitcher Levi Stoudt just got batted around by the Rays on his debut. Gave up 6 runs on 7 hits in the top of the first, all earned.
Harsh. Welcome to the big leagues, son.

Drew Smyly is perfect through 6 at Wrigley against the Dodgers.
Greatly assisted by the 12 runs the Cubs have scored.

Mark it. The 3rd of May.
The day the Cubs hit .500 after being above it all of April.
The beginning of the end. It was too good to last, too pure to live.

Every game on MLB TV is free tonight, in case you want to watch one.
The ones on Apple TV (Cubs @ Twins; KC @ Milwaukee) aren't, unfortunately.

In case anyone else has been waiting for it like me, MLB TV is now currently 50% off. Tempting. Whilst the Cubs are doing reassuringly shit, Christopher Morel has a record in his first 12 games (9 HR) that's only been beaten by ONE player since 1900 (Mike Schmidt in '76) and equalled by two others (Luis Gonzales in '01 and Larry Walker in '97). He's hit home runs in the last 5 straight games. The last Cubs player to do that was Sammy Sosa in '99. When asked about that, Morel said "I wasn't born". He's also the first played IN MLB HISTORY to have a hit and a run in each of his first twelve games. Pretty good start, really. If only we had a bullpen.

This is unusual, still being invested in Baseball in August.
The Cubs are now 18-7 since the All-Star Break, the best record in the Majors. And have slipped into a Wildcard spot in the NL. The 3/4 series win (scoring 42 runs in the 3 wins) pulled us back over the Reds and last night's 2-1 series clinch at home over the Braves tipped us over into the spot. Amazing.
The way things are going though, we might just skip that entirely and win the division.

Yeah, that’s a decent turnaround. I like to think my appearance at the London games was a real inspiration for them.
Must be even more gratifying seeing the White Sox implode at the same time. I did lol at Tim Anderson’s glass jaw on Saturday.

That was great, wasn't it? They played it about three times during the Cubs home coverage yesterday, they won't let that one rest soon. In case anyone is wondering:

That contract structure, too.
What a dude.
Even if he did get my hopes up slightly by sniffing round the Jays training facility.

Anybody been watching the post season? I got invested a month ago after MLB the Show was free on PS+ (I am awful at it).
Crazy first match of World Series. I am rooting for Dodgers as they've a cool team and I can't stand the Yankees as I was a Red Sox fan in my uni days then Blue Jays fan when living in Canada.

When they intentionally walked Mookie I just knew something was going to go down. Freeman’s no doubt bat flip is the image of the season.

I stayed up and watched it last night and nearly bailed when it hit extra innings, but yeah, Freeman’s bat point/flip was proper iconic.
Now they’ll lose 4 straight.

The Yankees appear to have somehow missed the endless hype around this being the greatest World Series of all time that planet Earth has been waiting for, and forgotten to turn up.
Bit of a non-event.

Yeah they have been so poor. The amount of runs they are giving up from walking people has been mad. And their best hitters are not doing it either.
