Angels just fired Joe Maddon. Their team is going to shit. Wonder if Ohtani will go to arbitration next year if this keeps up. Trout is locked in until 2030 or something

Oh yes, I just went to the 2nd vs Pirates match. My 1st game and great fun. They were 4 down bought it back to 5-4 but lost in the last 2 inning 6-5. high fiving the home runs with all unknowns around you was surprising good fun! Just need to go work an extra year in retirement to pay for that Michelada! Ah awesome! Great game despite the loss, Pirates really have our number this season. Where did you sit? Any tips (aside from avoid the $$$ drinks!)? I’ve just booked a trip for September to see series against the Padres and Giants. Went for back lot seats thinking that’s where the ball comes so more chance of catch for my boys (block 311). Cheaper to boot. I suspect it’s where more of the party atmosphere was too. Also you can walk around freely and stand central area where there are no seats

I've been fortunate that every time I watch them, they win, but as a lifelong Dodger fan, I'm more confused by how we can make it to every damned World Series and come out on bottom, but of course now I know it's those cheating ass Astros!

Also damn, grem, didn't know you were an Angels fan!
You're all over the map when it comes to sports. Mavs for bball, Rams for A-football?

I’m a Dodgers fan. Just thought it was notable news.
Toss up between Seahawks and Saints for NFL.

Seahawks are hard, bro. That's who I rooted for when we lost the Rams.

What a finish in the Phillies game. 9th innings, losing 1-0, two outs, two on base, count is 2-2, batter gets a homer. Awesome stuff.

Think the Blue Jays are just about safe enough for me to go to bed now.

Toronto scored 28 at Fenway including an inside the park grand slam. WTAF!

Utterly mental, the Jays scored 10 runs with 2 outs! I couldn’t believe how bad some of the fielding was, that inside the park slam speaks for itself but so many routine outs fumbled, it’s like they weren’t trying.

The Red Sox “fielding” was indeed comical. Well chuffed with the result, but lol.
They got utterly creamed by the Yankees just before too. Given up 55 runs in their last 3 games.

The Mariners are currently beating the Astros for the postseason slot and it’s glorious.

Spoke too soon. Idiot move pulling Sewald, more idiot move not intentionally walking one of the best hitters in the game. Mariners once again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

It looks like the trashtros will knock out the Mariners, which is a shame. We’re also doing our very best at continuing our record of shitting the bed in the post season, fully expecting Padres to win tonight.

Used to be into the MLB in a big way. To the point that I created and was GM of a US/UK fantasy ESPN baseball league for 10 years.
But I grew to dislike the recent changes to baseball, shifting defence, ghost runners, pitching clocks and mega teams, that sort of crap. Left it all behind about 4 years ago.
Watched a game for the first time the other day, game 2 Yankees vs Guardians and was reminded playoff baseball is some of the best sport you can watch. It's slow ratcheting of tension and relief is sublime. It helps when the Yankees and Dodgers are failing admittedly
Doubt its enough to get me back into it for good. Though the mess that is the officiating, particularly in the NFL, where it is turning into touch football in the name of offence and spectacle, and our football, where rules are being enforced that trump the laws of physics, make me think Baseball may be the least rage inducing of the sports I have loved unreservedly in the past.

Unbelievable scenes all round last night. Sorry Grem. Eh, we didn’t deserve to win this one anyway. Our offense just didn’t bother to show up, it’s like after we hit 100+ wins in the regular season everyone just went “that’ll do” and gave up trying.

I predicted Astros in 6 before the series, I should have placed a bet. As much as I dislike the team in general, have to confess they played a blinder of a season. If we didn’t do our usual post season collapse that would have been a hell of a WS.

They’re basically changing it into a hitter and runner’s game. 2023 is going to be one long home run derby, it’s terrible imo.

Some of it actually makes me kind of angry. The pitch clock, maybe some would argue it’s overdue, but it’s too short, and it punishes both the pitcher and the hitter, and it also makes getting rid of the shift kind of pointless too because how are you even going to shift, or react to a shift, with 15 seconds on the clock? This isn’t an NFL huddle.

I’m maintaining an open mind for now. I don’t necessarily hate the pitch clock / batters box idea. It’ll be a change for everyone sure, but keeping a tempo to a game and reducing the overall time isn’t a bad thing. Plus I don’t think overall scoring was impacted a great deal by the change and I’m looking forward to base-stealing and small-ball maybe becoming a bit more of a thing again.
The stupidest one is the shift ban. I just think that’s pointless. All it’s done is cave in to the apparent inability of most MLB batters to learn to hit the other way properly.
Either way it should be interesting to watch unfold and the anger rage.

They did the pitch clock change for milb last year and it was a disaster. Even towards the end of the season, multiple violations per game. Its fine in principle but the implementation is too tight, too specific, and all the stuff about “batters need to be alert in 7 seconds” means no glove tightening, no stance adjustments, basically “assume everything is probably a fastball”.

I don’t know enough about it to have any firm view, so I’d more likely take your lead on this, but I’d been under the impression that after some bedding in time the minor league testing over the last couple of seasons had been pretty successful in the end.
