So I just wanted there to be a thread where we could all say nice things about the Lego games, even if The Skywalker Saga might end up being the last one of the current regime.
I played it for about half an hour last night (well, at midnight I guess, so today) and so far I'm really, really enjoying it. Just a refinement of what worked so well for so long. And it's very pretty.

I actually really fancy the Skywalker Saga. Not played a Lego game in over a decade, and I'm drawn to having yet another massive game on my SSD to hopefully chip away at. Elden Ring, Crusader Kings 3, Phoenix Point & Cyberpunk really need some company I tell you.

Just ordered this (literally five minutes ago) for our little ‘un’s PS4: a long-overdue gift from my brother’s family when it was first due to be released.

I keep forgetting I've got to revisit Cyberpunk on the PS5....really need another lock down and full business closure, my backlog is building up again. Or I could just retire....

Want to buy this for me and the kid, but the reviews seem to agree that the new, more 3rd person camera perspective (which works great in single-player) doesn't work well in coop at all. Hmmm.

Yeah, the split screen does look to hamper the view somewhat - can imagine a lot of distracting panning around going on in the other half of the screen. Pity they never continued with online co-op too. Very tempted though. Looks lovely though my kids are now too cool to play this so it would be down to the biggest kid in the house to get any joy out of this.

Don't think I've played one since the first Marvel one, and Lego City on the Wii U before that... I might just have to bite too!

Is it all the Lego Star Wars in one package or a brand new game?
I suppose I could have found that out on the internet in less time than it’s taken me to type this

Admittedly I’m not that far into it, but the levels (the proper ones you’re ranked on) seem waaaaay shorter than previous games. Like a couple of minutes kind of short, which makes me wonder if the entire thing is just short vignettes.

Only done the first proper story level so far but yeah, that did seem a bit on the short side if you're talking about the original trilogy. Felt like a chunk of content was missing when you switch to the droids.
Enjoying it so far anyway. Just pootling around collecting a few bricks.

No real interest in picking up the new one at the moment, but I have played through Eps 4,5,6,1 on the old one. We're saving Eps 2 and 3 until after we've seen the appropriate movies.
Also played Harry Potter years 1-4, but are waiting to pick up 5-7 until after seeing the matching movies.
I think the other one I've played with my kids was Lego Batman 1.
Of all those, I think HP was probably the best, as the open world hogwarts worked pretty well as a hub. Though there was a bit too much backtracking and it was a bit unclear at times which unlocks were needed for what, or where to use them.
Batman was much more linear and we burned through it much faster, but still fun (except the jumping with useless perspective)
Old SW saga was kinda in the middle.
I still have Batman 2 and The Hobbit and LotR in the backlog I think, but the kids haven't seen LotR yet. (I won't subject them to The Hobbit. Actually, maybe the game is a good way to avoid the movies for that one).
I can't imagine how anyone could play them singleplayer though. They only really come alive in co-op.

Prior to this new one, I'd played Star Wars 1&2 (and Complete Saga, technically), Batman 1-3, Marvel Super Heroes 1&2, LOTR, and Indiana Jones.
I'd say the best was the first Marvel. The open world New York was the ideal size for a hub, offering plenty to do. I think after that a little bit of bloat crept in, the weird multiverse world of Marvel 2 not being as interesting, and the multiple smaller planets in Batman 3 being a bit repetitive.
I actually really enjoyed Indy. It's one of the few games I've ever got 1000G on, and I think the only Lego game I've 100%-ed.

Gave our 14 year old a choice between Elden Ring and Skywalker Saga, and he's opted for Skywalker.

Think I'll be picking this up shortly. Looks like fun, rather than my recent ghoulish fixation with slog. Unfinished Sifu, Tunic and GTAV (again) I'm looking at you.
Not sure what the new Lego / Epic partnership will do to any future TT games but sounds like a Roblox-style game running under UE5 could be massive.

TT are owned by Warners so I imagine this is their Lego swansong. Which is a huge shame as I'd have loved another DC or Batman game in the style of Skywalker.
What I hope happens is Warners commission them to make, say, a Batman game that keeps all the fun trappings of a Lego game, just without Lego. Something cartoony and child-friendly with the same exploration, puzzles, combat, and huge roster of characters.

Seems to be one of the larger Lego games, so not exactly a short and sweet alternative to the above games if you're going for the hidden bricks. Probably a 20 hour game if you just plough through the story though. You can enter the below codes to unlock characters. Some of which you unlock just by playing, but for some it's the only way. Not really a spoiler, just a wall of text. 3FCPPVX - Tarkin ARVALA7 - The Razor Crest ship C3PHOHO - C-3PO (Holiday Special) GR2VBXF - Ratts Tyerell KH7P320 - Aayla Secura KORDOKU - Poe Dameron (Holiday Special) LIFEDAY - Gonk Droid (Holiday Special) OKV7TLR - Dengar SHUTTLE - Resistance I-TS Transport ship SIDIOUS - The Emperor SKYSAGA - Temmin Wexley (Snap Wexley) TIPYIPS - D-O (Holiday Special) WBFE4GO - Nute Gunray WOOKIEE - Chewbacca (Holiday Special) WROSHYR - Darth Vader (Holiday Special) XV4WND9 - Admiral Holdo Z55T8CQ - Poggle The Lesser BAC1CKP - unlocks a type of droid T9LM1QF - Shmi VT1LFNH - Shaak Ti

Just started playing Lego Batman 2 with the kids.
The TT games are all great (in co-op), but they are buggy as hell and they don't seem to have ever really fixed some of the bugs that have been present for years in the games.
Just had the exact same issue in Batman 2 that we used to get in Harry Potty 1-4. Unplug the player 1 controller and you'll often get stuck on the 'continue' screen, but with no buttons that will allow you to continue, even if you plug the controller back in. So you have to kill the process, and then replay the entire level again. At which point it crashed to desktop.

Tt have been so tied to the franchise that it'll be interesting to see what they do next.

I think WB could still make a deal with Lego for more games, they just wouldn't have exclusive rights anymore.

Played up to Mos Eisley Cantina, done a few side missions too.
Feels like it might make the average Ubi map feel positively meagre.
Looks lovely, (XSX) though definitely sticking with 60fps.

How much does it vary from the existing Lego Star Wars missions. It's all new right, but I assume they're basically covering the same events and have similar gameplay.

So far, the story path is very much in keeping with the plot and I guess the first games - find Artoo, stash the plans, find escape pod, find Obi-Wan, go to Mos Eisley, find Han..... However, at the hubs eg: Tatooine - Lars Homestead area and Mos Eisley, there are many other subtasks and sidestories. Rumours that unlock other quests. Many are very simple, others look like they would take a little longer. Characters/Ships can also be upgraded - walk faster, hoover up studs from a distance etc. These require x number of studs plus the glowing Khyber bricks that are found around the world or given by task completion etc. Compared to old games the UI and amount of options/ map control etc is very different. Not sure how my (then much younger) kids would have got on with all the nuances. Looks like, if you want to dig out all the extras/secrets/characters it is going to take a lot of time... Other than that, more emphasis on shooting (like the prior Force Awakens game) but still plenty of smashing all and sundry to get the True Jedi awards etc. Still very early for me - 3 hours I guess. Just unlocked an option to revert voices to old school grunts etc - though think I can live with the default.

I think the fact that the hub worlds are much more closely tied to the "missions" makes it feel quite different. The first level of A New Hope is very similar, structurally, to the level from Lego Star Wars II, even if the gameplay is a bit different. Once you get to Tatooine the game opens up, and the areas start to bleed together, making the actual levels feel quite a bit shorter. It ends up playing more like a traditional open world game rather than something like Lego Marvel, which had very discrete levels connected by the NYC hub.

Picked this up today for Xbox One. Have just played the Ep IV mission to get the plans off the ship so far, but it seems like fun. Got v. confused for a while when trying to invert the Y-axis until I worked out you have to do it for look and then do it elsewhere for aim.
I can see that it's going to be one of those 'got to get all the awards on each level' games which is either going to make it great value for money or a tedious pile of repetition.

Lego Batman 2 isn't grabbing us as much as I expected. The camera seems a bit more zoomed in that some of the other Lego games I've played, and in split screen that can make it a bit confusing about what's going on. Some of the levels seem a bit over-complex in a way that's a bit unsatisfying so far. I need to work out if there's a map for the 'open world' bit, because driving the batmobile isn't as much fun as you'd think when you've got no bloody idea where you're going. If it's like previous Lego games then 100%ing every level will take you absolutely forever, and is probably not worth it as a goal. Plus, to get everything on every level you usually have to do at least half a dozen playthroughs of each level, as a lot of stuff is locked behind character specific 'gates', and you'll need to unlock those characters before you can even get to it. It's best to just relax and enjoy it, and pick up as much stuff as you can while you're going along, but without worrying about it too much. Unlocking the main characters etc.. is probably the most rewarding bit, and you tend to pick up billions of pips as you go along anyway.
