Another re-hashed thread from the olde worlde.
Who remembers those 12 inch pencil cases with the white stenciling on the side depicting the SHATTERPROOF ruler, the shitty compass with the little brown pencil, the Berol Handwriting pens, the triangle and protractor sets and the crappy pencil sharpener? The case would also have crushed pencil shavings in the bottom, staining everything therein with graphite.
Anyone?
Anyway, I love stationery and that's probably the dawning of my desire for it.

Having been trained on a drawing board I spent a fair few quid on stationery, pens, set squares etc, kinda miss the old way of drawing. You can still buy those 'shaterproof' rulers, they do not shatter but equally are not unbreakable.

All about the bronze, silver and black Oxford cases for me, with the 15cm ruler, protractor, set square, compass to soon be bloodied and a rubber.

Ah yeah, Helix was the last word in measuring shit.
I also miss spending a late 80s Saturday afternoon with my nose pressed up against the Parker display at WHSmith's between picking up a copy of Crash and visiting the speccy games.

I was only ever allowed one and my bastard brother splayed the nib about 6 weeks after I got it. Little cunt

As a writer, I have a few bits of stationery, owned completely un-ironically in the modern age, as I love it. My main pens and so on are ALWAYS kept and carried in my Oxford tin.

My other half is into stationery, the stationery shops in Japan are utterly insane, can leave her there for the whole day.

Yeah, I bought my wife a Hobonichi Midori planner for christmas a few years ago and it spiralled a bit out of control. Its like the triggers broom of diaries/planners.

Whose fucking idea was it to give young kids compasses? I swear those were only ever used for stabbing.

I have a personal love of mechanicals pencils. I use them all the time to take notes and draw random shite at work - I think it’s just the way it feels on the page compared to using a pen. Currently using the Pentel Graphgear 1000 and it’s super comfortable to hold - it’s quite weighty and solid. And I’m considering getting the OHTO Super Promecha to see how it compares as I don’t really like carting stuff to and from the office.

I like mechanical pencils too. Some of the engineering is fascinating, like the Kuru Toga pencils that rotate the lead as you write to keep it from flattening off. Nice for writing but not too good for drawing. I really like the black Mitsubishi Boxy rubbers too, they rub out better than any other I've tried. I've still got my compass that came with my Midland Bank bag and school set
