This years' E3 has been cancelled fully now. They already said there'd be no physical show a while back, but now the digital only event has been cancelled as well.
Did we really miss it over the last few years though? The trailers and announcements are going to dribble out regardless, so really the only thing we're missing is footage of some guy on a stage talking them up. |

I feel without Covid it would have eventually died but at a later date. With COVID a lot of publishers realised they didn't need to be beholden to that arbitrary summer date and could reveal things when they felt ready. It's a shame but in a very nostalgic way as I'm going to miss the awkwardness that came with it.

I enjoyed the hype when I was younger, but the Nintendo Directs had pretty much killed my excitment for E3 after a year or two of their existence.

The amount they used to spend on the booths was ridiculous (or at least looked that way). Loads of parties, events and all sorts.

It has got worse and worse but I did used to enjoy getting myself a pizza in, watching all the streams and then being massively disappointed in all the games when they released.

Blame Nintendo, they hastened the downfall when they started the Directs then all the other big boys copied them, weakening E3 hugely.

E3 had a show floor with developer booths and demos as well, although tbf it wasn't open to the general public until recent years, where I know Gamescom has always been open to the public, much like Tokyo Game Show. |

I'm not sure if I'm imagining it in my sleep deprived state but didn't the EG expo have booth babes back in the day. I went to one at the NEC and I'm 95% positive there were some Nvidia ladies there once.

I also feel as if E3 cancelled booth babes about 10 years ago if not more. I remember it being a discussion back when I used to read kotaku.
