Can't recommend the PS1 version, load times are pretty bad.
Squenix only managed to land proper load times in FF Origins. All their other ports range from mediocre to bad. Probably because FF1/2 were the only ones that ran natively, whereas FF4/5/6 and CT were just SNES roms running on emulation, and some of them couldn't fit entirely on system memory so they had to load entire parts of them on the fly.

FFVI on SNES has a weak translation, though there is a certain charm to it. At least it’s not full of actual grammar and spelling mistakes like VII. PS1 is improved and I’m pretty sure GBA is completely retranslated, but some say it is a pretty sterile script and lacks ‘texture’. The problem is those versions have other technical issues (pretty severe in the case of PS1) and after that, you’re getting into the weird modern ports that look fucking awful.
I personally stick with the original SNES version since I’m a real hardware gamer. I think if you’re emulating I’d consider a fan translation of the SNES version, if a decent one is available.

I’m playing FF6 on a Super NT with an original Snes cart but am tempted to have it modded to replace the translation with the GBA one.

Anyone got a Analogue Pocket on order? 2023 if you place an order now. Hilarious. I get there are chip shortages etc.. but how can they get the demand so wrong. Fuck that. I managed to order mine last year during the first pre-order round. It's my longest pre-order ever. Arrived last week. It's stunning. I don't care about the hacking stuff people are waiting for, cos I have probbably 50+ GB/C/A carts and a number of Neo Geo Pocket Colour carts too (though I can't play those because you need an adaper) so I have plenty to play. I played Wario Blast the other day, it's as fun as I remember!

Opened up the new year by purchasing Sega Touring Car Championship for PC, and Sid Meier's Pirates for the PSP.
Gotta set an example.

Refreshed my vita library last night and noticed loads I've still yet to play. Kicked things off with Muramasa rebirth!

I am also currently on my Vita, finally playing through Mary Skelter, which is quite fun once you get past the pointless pervy bits. Current maps are pretty huge though by console DRPG standards...
Vita OLED screen still going nicely too. Not sure if battery is going a bit nor where to get reliable replacements if so.
Edit - Muramasa is also on my 'to play' list on Vita...

Started playing Beyond Good & Evil HD again. I completed it on PS2, PS3 and now I'm on the Series X. Hands down my favourite game of all time.

As a massive fan of the Splatterhouse arcade, the latest hour long DF Retro was an enjoyable trip down memory lane.

I got wanpaku graffiti on the Switch last year and it is the perfect halloween game for when in the mood. If you like Splatterhouse then it is definitely worth checking out, though I may have had to get it from the Japanese store, I can't remember - just that it comes on one of those Namco packs.

Has anyone seen the new browser based emulator "webrcade"? It seems like a work of genius. You put your legally owned ROMs onto Dropbox, point webrcade to a JSON file in the same location, and it plays the ROMs locally on your browser. Any browser, including Safari and Edge on the Xbox. Because it's local, there's no lag. It can scrape for images and you can create playlists based on format, genre etc. Retro Game Corps has done a video on it here youtu.be/ROlxLLtR3nE

Yeah Jon touched on this in the DF Retro. Seemed to be Wonder Boy meets Splatterhouse!

Trying to play FF tactics on vita and the camera makes it such a chore to play. Really can't be arsed battling with it. Anyone recommend any psp or vita srpgs?

Valkyria Chronicles 2. Otherwise, anything with polygonal backgrounds and the isometric viewpoint will have the same issue as Tactics. Tactics Ogre is better than Final Fantasy Tactics, too. 👀

Jeanne d'Arc and Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time on PSP. The former was well received and I played a bit more of the latter and it was fairly decent.

From what I recall Grand Kingdom is an odd board game mash-up RPG. I forget the battle system though as I have barely played it. I have probably missed some other TRPGs from those systems too...

Dreamcast up and running again with the GDEMU device, needed a quality sd card so stuck with the only spare 32GB one that fits the bill. Put my old collection on it and checking everything works, tomorrow I'll narrow down what VMU I have them on. I got 3 controllers still working, 4 VMU's and my fishing rod, just need to buy a lightgun and figure out why my scart lead and VGA cables didnt work on the first tv I tried so ended up getting out my 14in crt.
So simple to instal and just ordered a noctua fan and 3D printed bits to pretty it up.
