Yeah it’s not a great service and the online hasn’t worked that well when I’ve tried it. If it’s only a couple of quid more I might bite.
I do want that wireless N64 controller though.

Yeah I'll bite for a couple of quid more.
And the N64 controller.
Fuck.

Word is that the N64 games on Switch here are PAL versions, which would be disappointing if I hadn't already come to expect it from them really. Ha ha ha ha, fuck off Nintendo!

I’m hoping one day Analogue might release an FGPA N64, in which case that wireless N64 controller would be ace.

I don't know for sure. It might change from game to game. It might also depend on how exactly they are accomplishing the emulation. Is it outright N64 emulation on ARM, or is technically emulation of the Wii U running N64 games in VC?
Wii U VC had mostly NTSC games for the N64, but it also had a few PAL ones (such as Ocarina).

It's Nintendo so it'll be whatever is cheapest and quickest for them to throw out the door. They're not exactly renowned for their care and attention in this department.

Fingers crossed that at least with F Zero X they use the NTSC version.

Fingers crossed that at least with F Zero X they use the NTSC version. That was already NTSC on the Wii U, so if they are smart they will probably just reuse that version.

The Castlevania Advance Collection is so good. Had some gold points so I only paid a tenner for it. Not played the GBA ones before as they're hard to find and expensive these days

I don't think DoS is on there? It's only the GBA Castlevania games (along with Dracula X, for some odd reason).

Darn, I'm trying to run the Raskulls demo on my 360, but it keeps freezing upon launch. I always have this nagging feeling that the console is about to break down on me, but I'll keep it until it's undeniably and irredeemably dead.

Woah, GOG managed to get their hands on Blood Omen. I had lost hope of ever seeing it again.
I was so hopeless, in fact, that I went and bought my own disc copy. Guess I'll be waiting for a sale then...

Just got done playing Headhunter on the DC. Always dismissed it as a shovelware but it was pretty darn decent and I'm sure would have been mindblowing at the time. It's like a mix between RE:CV and MGS.
Unfortunately it came out when the writing was on the wall for the DC and a lacklustre (and late) port to the PS2 and an average sequel sealed its fate.

I loved Headhunter when it came out. Don't remember the port being too bad on PS2? the sequel was bad if I remember..

No idea tbh, just what I've read. It does seem like the sequel is the main reason the franchise died

Loved that game back in the day. Probably janky as hell now, but most of the stuff I played on DC probably doesn't hold up now. Hell, I spent an entire Xmas hooked on Omikron: The Nomad Soul. Talk about ground-breaking at the time.

The controller is my main beef with the Dreamcast. I use a Retrofighters controller for it these days and it’s so much better.
DC and N64 are the two systems where I just don’t like the official controllers

I suppose this is a better thread to ask than the fancy new TV and soundbar thread.
So, if I buy a fancy new 4K OLED TV and want to play my old retro consoles (mainly Saturn onwards) using a mix of RGB SCART, Composite SCART (for the odd console I didn't get a good cable for), SVHS (just my N64 I think) and component what would be the best method, minimising lag while aiming for the best image quality I can, for doing this on these HDMI only TVs. I have seen stuff like the OSSC (and Pro versions), Retrotink stuff, special cables per console (sounds a pricy option with all of the consoles) and the (I believe) out of print Framemeister. Any ideas or suggestions on the best way to go about this as it is one of the things keeping me on my old TV.

Absolutely love this: the mad bastard behind the RMCretro YouTube channel has recreated a late-80s era game shop in a corner of his retro museum exhibition space. Looks really great and took me right back in time, such great attention to detail. The Mastertronic blister packs!

The problem is that it's expensive and always out of stock. You can get both a 2x Pro and a 2x SCART for less money which is what I did. They're not as fully featured though. I might actually be wiling to sell mine if I can get my hands on a 5x...

Do you know how much the UK shipped price for the 5x is when it is happens to be in stock? Or is it basically US price plus shipping plus customs plus 'handling fee'?
It does sound a potentially nice option with less faffing than am OSSC which I gather requires more manual adjustments

Yeah pretty sure you pay the standard US list price plus all the costs to get it over here in US dollars. There’s a lot of unavoidable charges to import stuff these days.

Yeah the big difference between the two scalars is that the various console specific picture modes are built into the firmware on the 5x (or you can use a generic 4:3 profile which is perfectly fine apparently) whereas you have to manually create profiles and cycle through a lot of scary sounding settings with the OSSC. I’m sure the OSSC is capable of marginally better results though.
