It's a risky fucking gamble, can they just lawyer the fuck out of any cases by making it prohibitively expensive to even try?

I would imagine they are counted as critical national infrastructure and stopping ferries is a pretty big deal, so you'd hope the government were consulted.
Pretending they didnt know and are looking into it is by now the most classic move they have.

Workers' contracts were registered in Jersey, which is neither part of the UK or EU and doesn't have the employment protections of either. Likelihood of successful tribunals against a Dubai registered mega-corp with zero support from the British government seems incredibly slim indeed.

I dunno. ive been a part of a few redundancy rounds and they have all spent the most time with they lawyers and I might be giving them too much credit that they checked the legality of it all. It does seem like a bit of a 'fuck you, im doing it anyway' move.

I guess they might well have even factored in that if a tribunal finds against them and they get fined, the fine they will get is at most £X and its less than they stand to lose by either spinning it off at a loss or subsidising it as a ongoing business.
Still gobsmacked though. It's is either the most brazen calculated fuck you to employees ever, or a phenomenal cock up.

And, notably, the french workers were all left alone. (which the right wing gutter press are delighted about)

Plus, not sure if DP World own freeports in France? They have several in the UK which do a LOT of business and probably generate a lot of income for the Tories. Sorry, I mean for the UK treasury in taxation. Ahem.

Ah, there you go... statement from the arseholes basically saying they're paying people off. Some will dig in, I'm sure. Remarkable admission that they didn't even try to consult either.

Fuck me. We didn't consult because of your imaginary failure to agree terms.

I assume 'viable' has something to do with dividends or profits: 'shareholders told us that dividends less than seven figures are not viable'. Surely it would take an extraordinary level of mismanagement for a ferry company based on an island to be in danger of going under. DP World will have already worked out that the benefits outweigh the risks/costs, financial shenanigans will make costs trivial. Cancelling all their contracts and telling them to fuck off is the only real punishment, and we know that's not happening.
I know this isn't all about Brexit, but in older times the government would cry 'EU red tape' when asked to intervene, now they'll just shrug. This is another huge signal as to the type of country Farage, Rees-Mogg, Banks and all those other cunts want Britain to be. I wonder if Leavers will notice, or understand...

"We thought you wouldn't go for it so we didn't even bother trying."
What an absolute shower of cunts.

I hope P&O Cruises sue them as well for the aggro they’ve gone through. They’ve got adverts on YouTube explaining that it’s nothing to do with them.
