Also got this on preorder. Any negativity tends to bounce off me, more of a Rubber Johnny if you will.

Dying Light 2 was my flawed purchase of the year. With that at least the traversal was always fun to make up for other stuff not quite being top tier.

This looks like it'd just frustrate me without that parkour loop rush to keep me coming back. Might still check it out when it inevitably ends up on game pass or whatever, though.

Ooooh turns out my copy arrived today. I know you're all waiting with baited breath, so I'll shove it on before beddybyes for a quick look and let you know what it's like.

Decided against it. Bought wwe, Kirby and Tiny Tina instead.

Just got it today. Not fired it up yet. Probably spend hours creating my wrestler later.

Well. I'm very happy with this so far. It's pretty much everything I thought it would be. The atmosphere is incredible and (now I've turned most of the UI off) it's pretty immersive. The banter between the protagonists is great and the whole thing is just giving me what I'm looking for.

The main thing to be got out of the way is the combat - no, it's not brilliant. It's pretty much bog standard in fact, but it works and is enjoyable. It's fairly standard FPS in fact (hold L2 to aim through iron sights - well, no sights but the end result is the same, you get a slight zoom and a bit of a target snap), with stealth elements and blocking of attacks. The enemies I've seen so far are very basic but I've caught glimpses of bigger things about the place.

It starts off quite linear but opens up after the first mission with various side quests etc and all the trappings of the open world FPS genre. There's a verticality to it I hadn't expected and a glide mechanic meaning that you can boost up to high places and float gently down. Means you get some great views of the city early on as well. It's all wrapped up in this delicious presentation though, with a stunningly rendered Tokyo, bursting with atmosphere, a fantastic soundtrack and excellent audio. There's nice Evil Within / Layers of Fear type shit going on as well with your environment being messed with and an early sequence in a hospital gave me FEAR vibes.

I liked it a lot actually, and I’m glad there’s more content coming for it. I just loved wandering around a deserted Tokyo fighting yokai.

I like the setting and some of the enemy design.

I might even like the game when I play it, going to try and just main line it and see how it goes.

That’s the spirit. Go in with a positive mindset. It might just be fun!

In all seriousness though the combat is wank but the setting, enemy design and spooky side missions are brilliant. Tokyo itself is so awesome to just wander around.
