Got to the west garden, which was peaceful until it wasn’t. Is it okay to smash those tunic head things, or do they have another purpose besides giving you a couple erm… rupees?

I'll have to try that, I've been saving them up anyways. So does the language become clear at some point in the game? I've been looking at the thing that looks like it's pointing in cardinal directions trying to figure it out.

I've been looking at the thing that looks like it's pointing in cardinal directions trying to figure it out. It's never actually translated, but all that you need to know will be understandable just looking at the manual pages. In some cases, you'll need more pages before you can work out what something means though. Mind, it's not just random scribbles... some guys on Reddit have actually translated it entirely. Though it's never necessary to know precisely what it says.

Have been continuing to enjoy this very much, but I've reached the Cathedral now and it is very much in the land of bullshit. Suddenly we have a large number of enemies all at once. Your doubles aren't too bad, but each hit knocking your max health down is unnecessarily cruel. The rolling once hit so hard too and move so quickly.
It really hits peak bullshit levels with the room where you light candles and summon lots of enemies. Most aren't too bad, but having to fight multiples of the early boss is just horrid.
None of this would be too bad, if you weren't stuck as a ghost with no upgrades. That is where it really feels like a bullshit challenge and pushes it into an unfun territory. Can't say I've found anything until this point particularly difficult. I'll persevere through it, but it is pretty disappointing that it has resorted to this sort of challenge in its final moments.

Vandelay Did you reach The Librarian boss (iirc) ? That was what pissed me off. Probably my slowing reflexes but I'll be using god mode for that before looking to finish it.

Actually, yes that part was a bit of a pisstake too. The boss spends most of the time flying outside of your reach and even the grapple thing doesn't really help. I've not found most of the bosses too bad, up until that one. The one after was perhaps a bit better, but probably shouldn't have been as tanky.

I hated the Librarian too, because of two issues. One was a glitch(?) that sometimes those "fireballs" hit me on spawn, even though they spawn outside of the arena and I was pretty much in the middle of it. The other was that the camera rotates around wildly with the boss, erratically changing my move direction, which I found very unhelpful when trying to dodge said fireballs. Wouldn't be such an issue in most games, but if a game relies heavily on you reliably dodging everything, it better work flawlessly.

Well, finished it now ("bad" ending), although got absolutely fed up with the final boss that I just enabled god mode. Must have tried her a couple of dozen times and it just wasn't fun anymore. Don't know if it was coming to this off the back of Elden Ring and I was hoping for something a little easier going, but the difficulty in the final few areas really grated. I was having a great time, probably up to 2nd key boss, but pretty much everything from then onwards felt a bit of a grind. The getting back your upgrades part gave a bit more of a spark, recapturing some of that discovery from the early game, but anything involving combat was a slog. I feel that the precision controls just didn't work here, as they do in From game. There were moments where it felt unresponsive, but it happened so often that it must be because some of the animations couldn't be cancelled. There is also an ability you can do by using the magic dagger and wand at the same time that seemed to only work for me barely 50% of the time, which supposedly helps with the final fight. It was so unreliable to be worthless. So, an absolutely fantastic 75% of a game, ruined by some desire to ramp up the difficulty.

I should mention that the golden ending requires quite a bit of extra work, very little of which is combat. If you go for that ending, you don't even need to fight the final boss. I also liked the secret fairies quest, again very little combat.

I liked the final boss, but it was incredibly tough and probably took me 20+ attempts, mainly from me getting greedy near the end of the first half and ending up wasting all my health packs. I actually saved a clip when I beat her as I was so proud, especially as I had only 1/4 health and no healing for the entire second half. But I went mad on attacks (wand and sword) and she kept getting knocked down/stunned, and I won with her only getting about 2 attacks off.

I'm way behind you guys, I keep getting absolutely destroyed by the Garden Knight. On the verge of giving up on the game because this seems like an absurd difficulty spike. Is it possible I've missed something important? I seem completely underpowered for this fight.

Afraid not, there isn't much you can do this early in the game other than learning its patterns.
Or activating god mode from the accessibility settings.

Just beat The Librarian boss tonight, bit of a frustrating one but got there in the end. Did a bit of exploring and found the next area to go to which looks class but appears to have loads of dangerous enemies.
Loving this game.

I've only played a couple of hours (just made it to the West Garden), but I'm really enjoying this. The manual pages are great fun and I'm enjoying finding little secrets everywhere. I thought the game would be quite small, but I just keep finding maps.
