Turns out agreeing “we won’t do presents for each other this year” with the other half is a trap. Got the motorised lighthouse. Can’t wait to get started!

I put her car through its MoT (£600) and she paid towards a new bed for us, so we were quits. There was talk of a gift armistice and now I’ve got some plastic fresnel lenses in my future. Can’t wait to build it (and find a home for it once done).

Looks nice enough, but jeez that's overpriced*. The actual picture minus the frame looks tiny. Could probably pick up a few packs of Lego Dots and make it yourself for a fraction of the price.
*i do realise that I say this about every lego set. sorry.

I was given the lego bonsai tree for Christmas and I'm not sure how I feel about it... Yes it's grown up lego and I am, ostensibly, a grown up. But if I'm honest I'd have preferred an AT-ST.
I do have lego speeder bikes so I suppose it could become an endor diarama.

I've bought and built quite a few Lego sets over the years though I've all but run out of space to expose them. Anyway, the latest one I chose was for once not actually an official Lego set but one of those numerous Chinese knockoff. Given what it cost and how low my expectations were, I must admit I was happily surprised with the decent quality and the fact that there were a handful of extra bags with spares for every single small to medium sized pieces. Here are some photos I took so that you may see and judge for yourselves. First, a look at the actual box : Next, a photo showing the inside of the box : The first pages of the manual : Here are the spares I mentioned : Last but not least, here's what it looks like once finished :

That looks great! Some of the alternate brands do a great job.
I think it would have been really cool of they included bricks to make a snow-covered version (love snow levels in Tenchu and Ghost of Tsushima), but that looks really good.
Also very nice display in the background!

Did the corner come melted off or was that an accident on your end?

Also very nice display in the background! Thank you! I agree with you, it would have looked even nicer with a bit of snow. Did the corner come melted off or was that an accident on your end? It came that way which means I probably could have asked for a replacement but since it wasn't too big of a deal I thought I might as well just deal with it.

Think the gorgeous A-frame cabin will be my next purchase, if I can convince myself its worth the outlay...
... so maybe I'll be waiting for a sale.

For the first time ever I’m tempted to go to the VIP signing event at Leicester Square, London for the Rivendell set BUT then I saw their gift to buyers of the set on the day is Frodo and Gollum Brickheadz (which imo is a poor looking set) then I started to think about the reality of hulking such a big set back across London and out of town without serious back ache/muggage/random abuse etc. not accounting for the high risk of box damage en route, time and money spent travelling etc. Not like I can plan it around a cheap and cheerful theatre trip either due to the timing and size of set.
/cancels grand plans /saves the cash to put towards gift for inevitable upset wife #happywifehappylife

In the UK sadly so many of our red telephone boxes are no longer used as telephone boxes with many becoming pop-up coffee outlets, charitable book storage boxes and drunk or otherwise people’s urination facilities so that said that set should offer a few of those alternative builds.
/votes for charitable book storage box as alt. build

With the Super Mario film out this year makes me wonder if there will be a Zelda film in the next 2 years and if the Zelda Lego sets will start arriving off the back of that?
There was a terrific Lego Stitch ideas set a couple of years ago and that was never approved despite guaranteed commercial success and that was almost certainly as another Stitch film is also en route…
