I’m surprised that they are so loved at Glastonbury to be honest That weirded me out some. I saw Noel Gallagher and his Band in 2016, didn't like Oasis, ever, but was drunk enough to have a helluva time for a singalong to the greatest hits show they put on and feel really good for like an hour, partly because of the crowd I guess. I'd fucking run out of a Coldplay crowd

I don't hate Coldplay but they do make me depressed. The fact such a bland sounding band can be so successful and liked by so many people gives me little hope for the future of music.
It just makes record companies look for super safe shite and not going out on a limb to promote a new Public Enemy or Sex pistols or just something with a bit of grit.
I can't imagine another band saying they were inspired by genre defining Coldplay.

Utter nonsense. The mainstream has always been safe, thats why its popular. Plenty of interesting stuff to find and being promoted. As always though you hae to look a bit deeper.

There's always been the mainstream, look at literally any old episode of TOTP on BBC4 to see what was topping the charts during the golden eras, there is *always* something that's considered safe and bland dominating the charts even when there's other great bands and artists that we watch with hindsight vision. We always filter them out when looking back but it's always been the case and will always be the case, nothing has changed there.

There's not enough going on with Coldplay to hate them. It's like hating air.

I don’t mind Coldplay - for this sort of event, putting on that sort of show - they’re pretty much one of the perfect bands for headlining something like modern Glastonbury or some stadium charity gig.
And in more showing my age news, I have no idea at all about SZA. Like even whether they’re a man or woman and only an educated guess at what genre they might be.
But then I’m also having a bleak hungover Travelodge breakfast all on my own right now so maybe I just need to bury my head in the past.

Meh, the festival public has changed. It started going south when they started handing out free hearing protection. And now you get dirty looks if you dare to light a cigarette.

simpleNo offence but we really are in danger of looking like Noel Gallagher complaining about Jay Z if we can’t be arsed spending two minutes on YouTube or Spotify. Or possibly like Geefe 😂 Anyway I looked Sza up. She’s sort of in a neo-soul, hip hop infused RnB sphere by the looks of it. Actually a nice voice. The songs I heard were very smooth and since the mold has been broken with Dua Lipa, at the risk of sounding like an old creep she is quite easy on the eye too. I don’t think it’s going to blow anybody away, it sounds a little background with a a hair too much auto tune for my tastes, and I’m surprised she’s headlining having heard so little of her but I’ll pay it a watch for ten minutes and see what’s what. They should try to get Alicia Keys for a truly big RnB headliner. That’d be great and she has enough mega hits that most people would enjoy it.

I haven't watched their set, and I can't say I'm a big fan or anything, but I imagine Coldplay would be pretty good live at a festival/stadium scale. Good epic anthems for singing along, light shows and fireworks.

Is it me or are the bbc doing a terrible job of actually putting anything on iPlayer this year? Normally find you can have a good browse and find plenty of performances but it's totally bare this year

They used to basically put everything on iPlayer.
It might be there, but you have to search for it. When I was browsing yesterday their big 'summer of music and sport' banner led me to a section that basically had none of this year's Glastonbury. Browsing I couldn't even find the Dua Lipa set from this year, and she was one of the headliners! But searching it came right up.

It’s not my bag but the rhythm section for Paul Heaton are people I l’ve known to say hello to and whose bands I watched growing up. I’ve known they’ve been touring with him and Abbot but it’s still mental seeing them on the Pyramid Stage. Fair play.

Confidence Man were fun.
I’ve not really enjoyed much else that’s on iplayer. I thought LCD were insufferably dull tbh and Idles seem to think they’re the greatest band to have ever lived. But I’m not exactly full of joy atm!

Catching up with the late days highlights show i recorded last night.
Shown far too much of Keane, not enough gossip or Sleaford mods. Any keane would be too much, but this is a bunch of dreary songs. Fuck off with that.
Orbital and mel c was great. She was loving it, massive smile on her face. Definitely better than tilda Swinton reading off a clipboard at the start. 😜

I will also note, what a boring looking crowd. Yeah I will admit the last time I was at Glasto was 30 odd years ago was ripped to the tits on drink and drugs.

Fontaines DC were decent, although admittedly I snuck a quick look at a setlist and skimmed through it to the two songs I knew (second and last) Nothing else that I caught tempted me to become a deeper fan.
Got Bloc Party on now and they seem great.

Skipped 10 minutes into Orbital's set and Tilda Swinton is still waffling on.
Pretty great once you get past that bit though.
/edit Hah, the Mel C bit is surprisingly good!
