I am glad that I went to Glastonbury in the mid to late 90's. Maybe it's just a case of getting old and rose tinted specs but the bands that were on then just makes modern Glastonbury just seem all a bit...dull in comparison.
May also just be a case of the general music scene these days.
Coldplay headlining for the 5th time seems to back up my thoughts on the matter.

Martin does my head in but I don’t actually hate Coldplay and they have some objectively nice songs. And he can sing great, and they are obviously highly proficient at putting it across live. They are just that band people’s mum likes, see also Keane. Take Martin’s persona out of it if you like, and that’s what people hate really.
It was simultaneously nice and a bit tough seeing Michael J Fox up there.

Anyway, I've concluded that if it's a song where Chris is wandering around the stage without an instrument I'm not keen on the song. Otherwise it's usually okay. It also seems to denote whether the song is an early one or a later one.

I think its always been the "cool" thing to hate on them. Some (not all) of the songs are quality and that performance was immense. Yeah Chris Martin hams it up a bit but I geniunly think he's trying to promote something other than hateful bullshit.

People hate them because they are bland as fuck and yet massively popular. People hate things like the X-Factor for the exact same reason
Others hate them because they are fake and disingenuous Tory loving poncey turds. I’m surprised that they are so loved at Glastonbury to be honest
I suppose when anyone gets mega rich they automatically pull the ladder up but it does get up peoples noses

Comparing them to xfactor etc etc is just ridiculous. They're clearly a talented bunch, yes it's not for everyone but sometimes people just like a good sing along lol
