I have no idea who you're all talking about, so I'm just picturing this guy kipping on your sofa...

The first time I watched that film I thought it was really funny and the second that it was really sad. It deserves a bigger reputation either way.

Frank Sidebottom is a man of conviction.
Frank Turner pretends he didn't go to Eton and didn't quit being vegan because some old punks sneered at him.

Ahhh. Watching Slowdive's set. Vocals are a bit out of practice, but the shoegazing vibes are as solid as ever.
Relaxing.

Can't be arsed to find a post to quote. But yeah the best QOTSA record is probably Rated R. But there's half a fag paper between that and both Queens of the Stone Age and Songs for the Deaf. I have a feeling that Mark Lanegan edges the argument, his tracks were amazing.
And then Nick gets to go pure FFUUUUUUUCCCCKKK on 2 tracks on R

Never remotely understood Turner's popularity. He's a posho right winger, cosplaying a folk punk. I had a mate who absolutely loved him and everything that he represented, he kinda went quiet when his real background came out in the wash. For what it's worth I can't fucking stand Turner he's very meh, for lack of a better word. Like someone cosplaying a folk act but doing a terrible job at it.

He's transparently middle-class, but in a really shit way, is how I would describe him. And every fan of his I've ever known has spoken about liking him, as if that somehow is a vindication of their great taste in music. Whereas it's a sad indictment. IMHO.

Ha. Yeah. There's a reason why Million Dead really seemed to have disown him. Ben had very little positive to say about his time in the band.

Well there we go. If it looks like a cunt and smells like a cunt and acts like a cunt, it's probably a cunt. I think that's the saying.

Or more accurately a Libertarian. Although I can see the confusion, they're both quite similar.

I was never that bothered by the Eton thing but maybe thats because I knew about it from the start so could never feel betrayed when the press started asking about it and everyone had their Billy Bragg mk2 illusions shattered. He’s definitely from more what the Times or Telegraph would consider middle class than what most normal would say is. Even if he was ‘only’ on a scholarship at Eton he was still literally at school with the current Prince of Wales.
Apart from having been in Kneejerk and Million Dead and getting a load of tattoos, I’ve never got why he’s still considered punk. His solo stuff never has been despite his championing of independent venues and bands.
He has always been a big one for his own myth-making though so has to share a lot of the blame for the different backlashes he’s suffered over the years.

When The Times start championing you then you know you're one to avoid.
Also having all the tattoos goes back to my comment about cosplaying.

Or more accurately a Libertarian. Although I can see the confusion, they're both quite similar. "The bottom line is the British Film Council gets its money out of threat of violence towards citizens, which is why it's infinitely worse than money that comes from some fizzy drink." "I was thinking about it the other day, I was thinking about how, quite often, I do keep myself to myself on the subject because I can't be fucking bothered to have some guy look all shocked at me because I think socialism's retarded." That just smacks of coke addled logic hard at work. I don't doubt he believes it but the way he's talking is not normal.

Even the 'punks' Eton produces seem to be mentally deficient. Time to bulldoze and turn it into something more useful, I'm thinking multi-storey car park or a vape shop

He does go around saying he’ll be voting for Starmer nowadays but I’m not sure that’ll change many minds.
I’m always fascinated by the way his American following is basically all drawn from hardcore circles (and some pro-wrestlers). I guess they don’t think about class like we do and his type of libertarianism probably doesn’t seem so alien to them.
Although its true that maybe only two or three of his nine or ten albums hold up. And even then those ones have plenty of filler and duff tracks. We haven’t even got on to how ill conceived No Man’s Land, no matter how well intentioned it was.

I mean he was a massive cokehead for years so maybe that's why. Americans love him because he's their view of an English gentleman

Jesus! LCD soundsystem and maybe PJ Harvey are the only ones I'd go anywhere near the pyramid stage for.
Shania fucking Twain?!
There are a few names that jump out elsewhere though, but my god those are dreadful headliners.

I haven't been to a Glastonbury for over 2 decades but even back then, the headline acts on the main stage were mainstream shite that I would avoid at all costs. Glastonbury has always been about the smaller stages and random music tents dotted around the site. I would still like to go back there someday but the anarchic nature of it seems to be less and less these days.
