I bought Songs for the Deaf because Go with the Flow was in GT4. It is the only QOTSA album I've ever listened to, and is still in my gym album rotation. Probably should try some of their other albums. Similar for me except it was No One Knows from one of the Guitar Heroes.

Heh. No one knows and go with the flow are pretty much the only two songs of theirs I know for similar reasons.
Probably both from the Rock Band series.

Whoever recommended Fred Again.. good shout. I really enjoyed that. I assume the white tshirt guy is the main dude and the football shirt one is a pal he’s got in to help make his solo project work live. He looked so genuinely happy and blown away it was very endearing. Funny how there’s not a real reason for it but that is a very Glastonbury kind of vibe over other festivals.
Also, all you Song for the Deafers need Rated R in your lives.

No One Knows was an incredibly powerful ear worm at the time. I tried listening to more of their stuff and once I'd heard the vapid chant of NICOTINE VALIUM VICODIN MARIJUANA ECSTASY AND ALCOHOL for the 10th time I realised it wasn't for me

Same for me, they are too stoner for me but that said they have a smattering of very good tunes but I’ve never managed to connect with full QOTSA albums.
But hey I absolutely love Biffy Clyro and quite a few friends can‘t get into them so pick your poison and all that!

If you love Biffy what did you make of the Hundred Reasons reunion album earlier this year?
Their best since the debut imo

I've done it with other bands to, probably to my detriment.
Listened to Audioslave's self titled album because it had a song in Collateral. Never tried any others, never tried Soundgarden.

I enjoyed the first album ok at the time but there can’t be many higher profile cases of being less than the sum of their parts than a Soundgarden Rage supergroup sounding like Audioslave did.
I’ve seen loads of people recommending Viagra Boys but I don’t get it, just seems kind of old fashioned and macho to me but then I don’t like Idles either so maybe that style of punk isn’t for me.
On a more positive note, Leftfield and The Comet is Coming are both really fun sets on catch up.

Watching the much vaunted Astley Smiths set. It's great fun and all, but he's a bit lounge singer for my liking.

Fred Again is great. I think he was musically groomed by Brian Eno and is some kind of posh genius pianist. His sets with Skrillex and Four Tett look so fun.

As someone who can’t listen to the Smiths due to an adverse reaction to the sound of Morissey’s voice, it was a bit of a tonic

I thought he warmed into it actually, was perhaps being a bit harsh. Enjoyed it a lot as I love The Smiths (even if Morrissey is a dick).

Just caught up with the Viagra Boys set, holy smokes they put on a good show. Totally killed it, especially the out-of-it-but-somehow-still-in-it sax player in the short shorts (cigarette), the lead singer who couldn’t figure out how to get back on stage after diving and the keyboard guy with his bollocks on show at the end. Worthy sleazy Stooges successors.

Worthy sleazy Stooges successors. This is EXACTLY how to describe them. Their sound reminds me of Fun House era Stooges. Definitely something in that Scandanavian water. Probably acid.

I finally watched some of that controversial Billy Nomates set.
Its alright. Not my thing but she’s doing it well. If the rockists are going to get that upset over someone using samples and tape loops they might as well not to go any major festival ever and stick to pub open mic nights.

Yeah, I saw it... through VPN 👀 aaaaaaand I didn't see anything that no one in the music industry hasn't been doing for decades. It's just snobbery with a main course of misogyny. But this isn't new, remember when Jay Z played and some people in the industry, mainly massive twat Noel Gallagher was ahgast at the heresy of hip hop playing on the Pyramid Stage. Cunt.

Obviously there’s a lot of factors at play but it doesn’t really help that most coverage seems to treat 94 as Year Zero and set an expectation that Glastonbury is an Indie Rock festival despite there having been all kinds of weird shit on the bill ever since the first Fayre.
But saying the festival as we know it starts with Britpop and all these other genres have just been allowed in is bonkers.

The problem glasto has, which was maginfied ten fold this year, is that most bands people consider 'credible' are drawing a pension, which is fine if youre happy that 50% of your festival is a Classic Oldies Roadshow for elderly white people but you do then have to put in the effort to support the other acts you get on board to keep The Kids happy.

C’mon Bongo, two of this year’s main headliners were playing the festival for the first time!

yeah half sunday's acts on the pyramid (blondie, elton john, yusaf islam / cat stevens) are all older than my parents, and I'm deep into deeply uncool middle aged dad dancing

I also think it's the perception of festivals here in the UK which are predominantly seen as rock/indie/metal anything out that spectrum is seen as a BBC Roadshow kind of thing or V Festival when that was a thing. I also think people who haven never been to a festival let alone Glasto just maybe see it as indie rock with some big acts who appeal massively to white middle class people who regularly host dinner parties i.e. Mumford and Sons. Eurgh.

As we have discussed before, the issue is that it is now increasingly rare for a 'credible' band to organically breakthrough to 'headline glastonbury' status these days because record labels only back generic, wide appeal acts, so you are stuck with the golden oldies. Even Arctic Monkeys are a heritage band now.

I did choke a bit when a mate messaged our WhatsApp group after the Monkeys set to remind us that AM was a decade ago.

I said something similar when my mates were complaining. I bet you look good on the dance floor is old enough to drink, so you can’t blame them for wanting to change things up.
(It would have been a different story if I actually liked them and they were fucking about with songs I enjoyed)
