So along with 150 other parents in my sons year group I received an email this morning with a link to a consent form for a vaccination (it matters not what the vaccination is for), I clicked on the link and it didn't work so I sent the school an email to say so and they duly sent out another mass email with a new link that did work.
Turns out they have included my own email address in the body of everyone else's email. So effectively 150 parents have my email address, now I've had a call from the school to let me know of their incompetence and I have asked them to escalate it, which they will do, though whatever the result of them escalating it is no help to me.
But realistically what's the worst that can happen? I get spammed as my email address could be used in some devious ways if some parents were inclined to do so? The school offered to send another email to say to ignore my email address but we both concluded this would likely only draw more attention to it so I declined that offer. I daresay the only foolproof solution would be to change my email address but frankly that's a load of ballache. Any thoughts/words of wisdom?

Nothing you can do really. Doubt much will happen. 2 factor authentication on your most sensitive accounts and you'll be fine.

From a technical standpoint, there's not much you can really do. Many ISPs and mail providers already filter spam on your behalf so whilst you could purchase another product to do it for you, there's no guarantee it'd catch anything that got through anyway.
From a GDPR POV, if the email is personal to you (eg, a GMAIL or Hotmail address or firstname.lastname@), what the school has done is a data breach because they shared your personal information without your consent, so you could theoretically get them a bollocking from the ICO. Depending on how much you want to be mean about it.

Pretty unlikely that a random parent would do anything with it. I wouldn't worry too much personally, but yeah I'd be pissed off too! If you pop your email address into haveibeenpwned.com you'll probably see that it's already in the hands of bad actors.

Create an alias for that account. All the mail will still come to the same account. but you'll be able to check which address it arrived via.

Annoying, but I wouldn't worry too much about nefarious consequences.

I went into our kids school and showed them what BCC was. Also show ICU nurses what the number lock key was for after they complained that their "wee number keyboard" had stopped working. I don't know how people can spend all day on PCs and not know basic stuff. Or how to find the answer if they don't know.
Your email address gets completely battered 24 hrs a day. The spam you see is the tip of the iceberg. I'm not sure what you think the parents will do with it. Are they really dodgy? Might end up on the local swingers group email?

Foolproof solution to not getting spammed or whatever could happen I guess, if I cease to use this email address and it is no longer linked to anything I've ever linked it to since forever then I guess that's pretty foolproof isn't it? I could then just delete it afterwards. But I don't really know hence posting on here.
That said I daresay my email may get a bit flaky if our friend in the East gets much more trigger happy .....

I get updates on my cyber security status. My email has been "for sale" on various sites and pastebins since 2013 when Dungeons & Dragons Online had a massive data breach. It's been flagged a few more times as well. Unsurprising given my laissez-faire approach to browsing.
More alarmingly my name and current address are also now also being sold, which isn't ideal especially as I shred EVERYTHING I get in the post.
I change my passwords regularly but I'm ripe for security fraud!

Four data breaches no less so I guess another one won't make much difference, I feel better now.

Is GDPR in force in the UK anyway?
While not cool, most probably nothing will result from leaking the address to some parents. Unless one of them is a spammer, of which there's I'd say a 50/50 chance.

Yes my address is my full name with my year of birth to for an added bonus, I have been in touch with the ICO and I need to write to the school formally in the first instance.
Anyway realistically probably worrying about nothing.
