Do we have one of these? I'm guessing there are a few of us here. I have a dog and a small child, so I'm not a proper digital nomad but my contract is 100% remote so enjoy(ed) working abroad as much as possible for a few weeks at a time every couple of months and plan on doing it again with toddler this year. Anyone else fully remote and making the most of it?

Where do you go, and how do you afford it?

I was just discussing this kind of thing with the Mrs while watching Place in the Sun. We're both mildly regretting our career choices as we're in patient contact roles in the NHS. Zero chance of remote working. Darnit.

Freelance writer, working from home, but could theoretically work from anywhere. I’m a homebody, though, so Cheshire it is

We're both completely home based, so theoretically, we could. It'd have to be a camper van somewhere though, because I'm not leaving the dog. 😁

I could probably pull this off, although I would struggle with some aspects of abroad. I am hoping to go fully remote and move to the South Island at some point.

There's even more racism here.
(I don't know if NZ is especially racist, but their neighbour is, so same brush etc,)

Where do you go, and how do you afford it? Just placesin Europe, as long as I have a solid internet connection I'm good to go. I haven't ventured beyond Europe but don't imagine it would be an issue - only difference would be time difference with the rest of my team. Cost isn't really a problem, half decent AirBnB and cooking most of our food. Just an expensive month for us. I should rent our plce when I'm away to pay for it but can't be doing with the hassle. Plan with little one is to go away during summer and I'll just work as normal but let wife (who's a teacher so off) and daughter just explore the city and museums and I'll just catch up in between. Haven't braved it yet though due to obvious reasons.

NZ is racist (especially the South Island), not as theatrically as Aus though.
Do you live in Aus, Dougs? I'm confused.

I’d love to do this and have thought a lot about it, only problem is my partner’s job doesn’t support it. She’s trying to figure out a career change though so ideally she’d end up in something that supports it. Yep

I'd love to do it too. Sell the house and get a camper van and just fuck off to a beach somewhere sunny. Cats kind of put a stop to that, though.

If I was single and I didn’t have to be in the UK to do my job then I’d definitely do this. Nothing appeals to me more than moving from country to country while working enough to fund it.
Other than social connections, which I’m not that bothered by, it’s only the wife and kids that is stopping me doing it now.

Not sure I could be properly nomadic (I'm a homebody) but I did escape London after 19 years there (moved up from Devon at 20) and returned back to the south west.
I work remotely and I've only been to one of our offices once in six months and there is no expectation on me to go any more often than that. I can work flexibly too, which means I can fit work around my family life rather than the other way around. Loving that freedom, on top of the slower pace of life and having beaches, countryside etc on my doorstep.

I live on the beach in Mexico about 4 hours south of Cancun since the pandemic. I’ll go back to Mexico City where I was office based in the time before covid.
Cannot imagine ever being tied to an office or permanent workspace again, though having 2 dogs makes moving around a bit more difficult that I would like.

If I could do that on a decent wage I'd love it.

So happy with our move.
