I own Dark Arisen on pc but I never really got into it, I'm really surprised how much this game has grabbed me. It really rewards exploration and there's always that wonder whether to go left of right at that fork in the road.
One thing I have definitely noticed is the clear DNA this game shares with Monster Hunter with how larger enemies react and animate, the player character's movement and their reactivity to being affected by larger enemies attacks and movements. Even the second environment shares visual similarity with Monster Hunter. The clear improvements to the engine in relation to size and the ridiculous draw distance have me really excited for Monster Hunter Wilds next year. Hopefully performance isn't this much of a shit show though.

Have people also noticed the cool detail of giant monsters rotting after you've defeated them and go back to their corpses sometime later?

I'm sure my Xbox X might be dying. The last few months the fan is so loud I can hear it over my headphones, really puts me off playing the poxy thing, should have bought this on ps5 Lift it up and clean the bottom, it's probably caked with dust. All the air is pulled from the bottom and pushed out the top. If it's fluffed up it will be noisy as hell. Morning Frog Nice one mate, I did this, actually took the back off and got into the guts of the machine, and yes it was full of dust. It is back to being whisper quiet. On the subject of DDII I have not retuned since my 1 hour played on release day, something is bothering me about how it looks, typically I do not care but maybe it is the fact I have come to it after nearly 100 hours of Ghost of T ? Now we are getting some fixes with more to come I might give it a week or two, I still have the new AW to start. As it is I have returned to Mad Max after several years for some side missions and "mop up" odds and sods, it is such a great fookin game.

Duncan was a good guide for me yesterday. Can’t remember whose he is though. Also props to Athena, great healer and support pawn.

What a terrific game this is, such a breath of fresh air. It wasn't on my radar *at all* until I started reading this thread and saw a couple of reviews, so it just goes to show that not all the talk around it is negative.
Don't think I've smiled as much playing a game in years.

I'm away for about ten days over Easter, and already worried I'll miss it. Should I get the first one on Switch?

If you’re having a good time, go right ahead. It’s not quite as advanced as this one, but the core is all there, and it makes a great handheld game.

I think Duncan died once in my team. But it wasn’t his fault bless him. He was very helpful in harve during the monster culling quest.

I gave my pawn the ability to give me a massive boost up so I can get to high places. Allowed me access a chest really high up in a cave. One of my hired pawns (possibly Duncan) was so impressed he couldn’t wait to tell his master

I've considered giving my mage pawn the ability that creates platforms out of ice, but sounds like it'd be a bit rubbish in combat and god knows if they'd actually use it when I need it while exploring.

As soon as I noticed the chest my pawn offered his help. I said "Go" and he got in position. It needed a bit of perseverance to get it right but it worked eventually. I guess that would work in a similar way.

Hopefully performance isn't this much of a shit show though. It really is Monster Hunter in ye olde times. First thing I thought of when I encountered a big beastie. Played a ton of Monster Hunter and its very obscure as far as having to learn the various systems, great fun though They have toned it down somewhat but still kept the mystery, its own thing but equally fun, loving this version of an open world, does have that Elden Ring exploration vibe. Well said Monkman, this game makes you grin

I saw an ogre fighting a dragon on an ancient battlefield. I killed the ogre with a ballista, is about all i can say for that encounter. We had to run not long after. Might have got killed once before I realised we should run from dragons. Even with a ballista to hand. This pawn plague is a bit worrying though. Everytime they say something now, I am giving it lots of thought. Using commands more for them now too to see if I have any grumpy pawns. Yikes.

So what's this about a pawn plague? I didn't know anything about that! Billy has been getting awfully grumpy of late... Oh my god, IS HE INFECTED!?!?

That explains why I summoned him in the capital, only for him to start pointing like a madman. I told him to go and he sprinted all the way to Harve! Obviously couldn't wait to get stuck in again. Duncan you nutter.
I was going to summon Wodewick Rob but he's just a couple of levels too low. Soon as he's closer though I'm grabbing him.

Duncan was a good guide for me yesterday. Can’t remember whose he is though. Also props to Athena, great healer and support pawn. Cheers! Athena is my Pawn. I was gifted a Pawn Specialisation called “Chirurgeon” by the little girl you first meet buying herbs in Melve (if you help her out, that is) and then she pops up again in the market square at the capital to say thanks. Her Dad also gives you a discount on their herb stall. Anyway Chirurgeon does seem to improve her tendency to focus on healing when you need it. It means she will actively use all kinds of curatives to heal, fix status effects and so on. I was planning to switch Athena’s vocation to Sorcerer when I get the chance, but she’s a bit too useful as the party’s healer at the moment. I’m definitely not getting as much time to play as I’d like - I’ve still got one of Brant’s quests to do as I keep wandering off getting sidetracked. Loving it when I do though!

I got that Chirurgeon and also gave it to my mage pawn. Do you need to do anything beyond just giving it to them (i.e. putting it in their inventory) to make them use it?

Duncan loves to lead the way. Was dragging me all over the place. I’ll try to get him levelled up a bit, I’m sure he’d love to be reunited with Billy. So pawn plague? I heard Woddy talking about some kind of virus but thought he was just rambling as usual.

It’s a consumable item - your Arisen uses it (go into your inventory and select “use”) and then your main Pawn will learn the specialisation. If you’re just carrying the scroll around, it won’t do anything!

Launch him from a cliff into the sea, it's the only way to be sure. I'm genuinely worried about him now. He's borderline passive aggresive at times. I don't have it in me to hurl him into the sea.

Probably a bit spoilery, so beware.
