It's a bit dodgy. I'd pre-ordered the PS5 version, nowhere in the store could I see about a free upgrade. Saw it online somewhere the day after so had to get a refund then buy the PS4 one.

If you look at the store on PS5 there's only the one digital version available (the more expensive one). Pretty scummy.
Edit: Anyway, disc version is a whopping $45 cheaper so that's a no brainer.

I really enjoyed the first game, despite initially having zero interest in it. I loved the combat, the setting, and the overarching story, although Aloy being so helpful and accepting to everyone who shunned her all her life wound me up a little bit.
I was going to wait a couple of months to get the sequel as I've just bought Tony Hawks 1 & 2, and the deluxe version of GT 7, but the DF video has destroyed any remnant of restraint. Damn you Linneman!

I'm hoping with a bit more optimisation time we'll get similar performance modes to Spiderman:MM. What performance modes do you mean, there's no ray tracing. Sorry, got confused with Ratchet and Clank, didn't that have a 40fps mode which turned up the pretty? |

I understand about the ray tracing bit but could a slight dip from 60fps to 40fps help with a better resolution? My tech knowledge (if you can call it that) is terrible so happy to be put right.

Nobody is that lucky, though. You don't just get a massive OLED TV through "luck". Only a small handful of the elite can afford them.
Hell, I can only think of one poster who could possibly afford one.

I feel like you need to watch the video that you yourself posted, he quite clearly lists the improvements that PS5 has over the other versions, and states that you get the exact same settings in both modes, only at a lower resolution at 60 fps. You don’t, there is another video which I’ll find, the difference between 30fps and 60fps is quite dramatic. Detail level on 60fps is PS4 quality. An easy spot is the the way the wind blows trees etc. They barely move at all in PS4 and ps5 60fps version. Where as the detail level in PS4 pro and ps5 30fps are comparable. There's barely any difference between the two modes, besides resolution obviously. The weather system is clearly dynamic to some degree, go to 04:00 in that video from Resero that you posted and you'll see the trees in the performance mode moving when the ones in resolution mode aren't. Stuff like this is just variable within in the game world. |

I dunno, I bought the standard PS4 version and it said it comes with a free upgrade to the ps5 version. Can't really see any issues with that tbh. It did say it would be available around 1am of the 18th February with no option of a PS5 preload, only the PS4 version.

Are the side quests in the first game worth doing? Also Frozen Wilds? I got back into my old save game last night (no way I'm redoing the 30ish hours I already spent), and wondering whether to mainline it to the end, or if the side content is where the juice is, like in Witcher III.

Depends what you're after. Have you got the weaver armour from collecting all the power cells? That's worth doing. You could just mainline it but pick up the power cells on your way. Dlc is harder and has more unique dinos in. I'm only about half way through the dlc but it's been good. Not sure if I'll finish it though tbh. Already done the main game |

The cauldrons unlock overrides for more robots, so they are worth doing, the tallnecks uncover the map and the camps and dino zones give xp for skill points.
The story side quests lead to kind of a mass effect 2 point but doesnt really affect the story.
If youve already put time into it, probably just shoot through the main quest. Its longer than you think.

Not done the weaver armor bit yet, I don't think. One of my side quests just reads "find a use for the power cell," so I imagine I just have one so far. Time to go crawling in some cauldrons, I guess!
