But then I'm so tight I'll probably just get the clippers out.

You totally should do it, especially if feeling a bit down.

I think if you want to feel better about your appearance, you need to let yourself do more than just what's necessary. I say go for it
When you look in the mirror after, you'll feel fancy

I normally just run clippers over the declining real estate on my head. Last week I went and got my haircut at a salon. A cheap ghetto one. Partly to get my hair cut, partly to see Gina, the only person other than myself to cut my hair in twenty years
Makes a big difference to have a decent cut rather than the results from clippers. Plus then I don’t have to get my daughter to cut away the tufts and the back.
Certainly look and feel better with a real haircut

All I know is I found a photo of me at 25 recently. I had so many hang ups. But my God. I was magnificent. And those days are gone. Update: a friend is moving house and found a pic of us back when I was 22. Conversely I wouldn’t want those years back for anything in the world. The early 2000s were a cruel few years fashion wise. I blame Limp Bizkit. I have no idea what happened in those three intervening years but I definitely hit my stride in the mid-20s. But so as not to derail this thread, moisturise and trim your ball bag.

I actually have now got glasses as wanted a break from my contacts. They take the attention away from my car crash of a face. Win.

Liked for the glasses, not the car crash face

Not that I don't like your car crash face. I haven't seen it. I'm sure it's really a beautiful motorshow face

Had laser surgery decades ago, but age has caught up with me and I'm now wearing glasses again for driving and reading. Thankfully my wife likes the look and thankfully I no longer give as much of a toss as I once did.

I had a good twenty year run with contact lenses but, around the age of forty, I realised that my eyes were feeling more tired, particularly with things like evening driving after long days out and the like.
I swapped to glasses, which eased everything straightaway.
Fast forward to a couple of years ago (aged about 48, I suppose) and I decided to give contacts one more chance.
Nope: I'm shortsighted, so need the correction for far away, and my closeup vision isn't too bad. With the lenses in, anything close up was very hard to read and massively headache-inducing.
So, glasses it is! I quite like the look of glasses on people, so I don't really mind at all.

I used to take solace that my myopia still let me see things up close with my glasses on.
Not no more. The sweet spot where I can see clearly exists between eight to eleven inches from my face. Anything else abs it’s a blurry mess.
Oddly, as my close in vision deteriorated, my distance vision has improved markedly. From a -4.75 to -4/3.75
Still can’t see shit without glasses but if it keeps this up in another twenty years I might be able to see distance without glasses. If not for the cataracts

I think it’s time to get the eyes tested. I have a simple pair of reading glasses which help greatly, but too long with them and it screws my eyes up.
Plus serial numbers are smaller these days. Honestly.

I thought the whole point of eye surgery was that it eliminated the need to ever have to wear glasses again. I guess not then.

Same thing happened to my dad. He got the surgery and years later needed glasses again. No thank you. I'll just stick to cute frames.

I thought the whole point of eye surgery was that it eliminated the need to ever have to wear glasses again. I guess not then. Everyone's eyes deteriorate as they age. You get long-sighted as your lens is more rigid and so isn't as and to focus on close things. That was explained to me when I got them and it's not something that laser surgery can resolve. I just need 7' long arms so I can read labels is all. As for distance, that again is just my eyes staring to wear out. Neither prescription is significant and I use one pair when reading labels and the other when driving or when I really want the 4k to stand out. Vain me from 22 years ago is happy with the laser surgery. Modern day me is also happy as I was blind as a mole.

My town in the South East is full of "Turkish barbers" but I'm convinced they're all run by the same couple of guys. You'd expect having 10+ places in a 1.5 mile radius would drive the prices down, but good luck trying to get a haircut & shave for under £30.

I made an appointment and went to a barbers yestarday after work.
I do actually feel a million times better just by having my hair cut properly. Thanks chaps. They do beards too but not just now becuase masks etc, but when they start doing them again I'll go in and get it done. As it was I spent more time on mine when I got home to go with my snazzy hair so I'm looking hawt.

I have to say that in the past ten years or so I've avoided cutting my own hair or using barbers and will always stump up for a haircut in a salon. My worst haircuts have all been in gents barbers and my best are always in a salon. Mad to think, but it's true. I turned 40 last year and am actually enjoying the greys coming through, I've always been baby-faced hence why I've had facial hair for the past 12 or so years, but I'm definitely feeling my years, if not quite looking like a man of 40 yet; though having a kid is definitely speeding the aging process for sure. My skin is pretty good...and yes I have to admit, I've recently started a 'skin-care routine' in the evenings. What the hell am I becoming?

My current regime is to run my clippers over my head and face once every couple of weeks. Makes me look like the quintessential fat, bald, red faced, wheezy english c**t. But as I said to Mrs Hermit, I don't really care what I look like, I don't have to look at it, so it's her problem not mine.

The insane amount of Turkish Barber style places that have popped up here in the last few years makes me suspicious.

Those are quite smart. My day to day glasses are just fairly basic, cheap Ollie Quinn ones, but my out and about ones are Lindberg Spirit Titanium rimless and I love them to bits.

I bloody don't - with my Easter Island forehead, lopsided Dumbo ears, and Jimmy Hill chin, I was never magnificent.
Still, you can't miss what you didn't have in the first place, so there's my silver lining for the day.
In your magnificent (if somewhat aged) faces!

The one I go to is £35 for a haircut. It's eyewateringly expensive so only get it done every 8 weeks or so, and suffer the bombardment of emails after 3 weeks insisting how important it is have it cut every 3 weeks! Hah. I used to occasionally visit one like this in London near Chartlotte Street...must've been payiong around £40. I got a text message from them not long ago, saying they're back and ready to cut hair.
