Watching Das Bus. Series 9 is defo the point it gets shit. Homer is starting an "internet business" and Bill Gates shows up.
From now on, I stop at the New York episode.

Think it’s both. They’re outlandish but it’s still badly written and not funny. It resorted to characters many strange sounds and shouting for humour.

I caught a couple of episodes from season 32 yesterday. They actually were better than I thought they’d be. I mean they weren’t that funny and Bart and Homer are really crap characters now but at least it told a story.

I had been watching them all from the start, but drifted away around season 10-11. The quality really was a big drop off.
Finally on season 12 though and actually think it is quite a bit better. The stories are still nonsense and random for the sake of random, but it does get more entertaining and usually raises a few smiles.

Series 11 is generally considered the worst. It's absolutely diabolical.
I finally saw the film about 6-7 years after it came out and was pleasantly surprised. But yeah, that shark has been jumped so long ago that the shark itself has now evolved into a new species and been jumped a whole bunch of times.

34x11 "Top Goon" was, as far as I know, the second ice hockey focused episode The Simpsons has done. Was it better than 6x08 "Lisa On Ice"?
Was it fuck. That was a heartwarming sibling rivalry story between Bart and Lisa. This one is a Moe and Nelson vehicle that meanders from a Goon/Slapshot riff to a place with a barely earned substitute father versus Fat Tony for some reason.
It had its moments ("Estee Dionne Malip?"), and bonus points for anything that uses Stompin' Tom Connors on the soundtrack. Chief Wiggum/Foot Fetish material loses those points again immediately though.

How come whenever I see the Simpsons on TV it always seems to be season 12 or later? Do Disney charge a premium for good Simpsons?

I'm venturing into series 9, something I rarely do.Trash of the Titans is an excellent example of the two ends of Springfield.
On one hand, you've got a fairly straightforward story of working class Homer throwing a wobbly with Steve Martin, voicing a character and not himself, who delivers his lines well. It's snarky and somewhat clever.
Then you've got the entire U2 bit, which is so desperate and an indication of where the show wws going.
