I don't know about anyone else, but I can't read the long twitter threads any more since they tried to force you to login.

They've always been shit. Twitter is an absolutely terrible platform for delivering anything more than whatever their character limit is for a single tweet.

Cue my regular rant that twitter is the worst thing to ever happen to the world. Especially threads like the above.
If you have a long fucking read that is important then just link to the fucking page rather than splitting it into 35 sentences of 79 characters like some ADHD riddle goldfish.

He analyzed cost structure of energy and discovered that the price hikes are not actually due to shortages, but due to speculation about possible future shortages, or in other words, it's all about money, baby!

Interesting thread regarding energy prices. No shit. You mean the price of something is related to how scarce it's going to be?! AMAZING. Yes it's shit that we're paying for the potential scarcity in the future now but this is not new.

This speculation has not much to do with the actual business of delivering energy, though, it's just some parasites getting rich on the backs of regular people.
So yeah, business as usual, but it's still worth repeating in the hopes that one day, enough people will be fed up with this bullshit.

I don't think I'd do a takeaway pizza these days. Normally save takeaways for things I know I can't do justice at home - Indian and Chinese, for a start. Sure, I can follow a recipe but it'll be shit. Chinese and Indian is much easier to do justice at home than pizza is!

To do pizza justice, you need a wood fired oven. And then get the recipe right on top. The others are more immediately accessible as it's just ingredients which are usually pretty freely available.

We're being warned about potential blackouts in Tokyo, because they don't have enough electricity. There was apparently going to be one at 9pm, but it didn't seem to happen.
Of course, Japan imports a lot of energy from Russia, plus all their nuclear plants have been pretty much shut down since 2011, plus we just had an earthquake this week that means more plants are shut down, plus it's bloody cold today. But still kinda unbelievable.

But still kinda unbelievable. Is it, though? Making yourself reliant on states with despotic government surely has to come with some risks?

I've been in salary discussions today for our Polish office as we have an interesting problem now whereby a lot of our staff are getting headhunted for salaries that are international rather than local Polish. When CoVid homeworking happening was fresh news the fear was that we would lose jobs to foreign engineering teams but with the employment crisis it is now seemingly going the other way with historically cheaper places levelling up. Related, if anyone knows how to write a DX graphics driver (or has a close enough set of moves to transition over) and wants a job, let me know, we are paying really well

They're probably just the same hoodie as Primark, but with the label of a really expensive shop inside instead.

The NI increase sticks, though its threshold increases; income tax (basic rate) will drop by 1p in 2024. Hmm.

I can't remember the brand that Twitter said he preferred, but that's what they cost... It's Everlane, it's a Ā£70 hoodie. I've got hoodies that cost more than that, and my missus is worth about Ā£2.50 in today's money.

I should add I'm probably never going to buy another expensive hoodie ever again, unless it's made of potatoes and electricity.

I have an extensive hoodie collection*, but Everlane? Nah, mate. I'm good.
*Too many, they're gradually being winnowed.

I'm basing this on the Uni-Qlo price index but Ā£35 is the most I'd pay for a hoodie. Even Ā£70 seems silly.
