I'm a grand in credit, paying £220 and not had fuck all. Arseholes. Ask for some of it back? Martin Lewis basically says never let them have more than 2-3 months of credit

I will if they don't reduce payments soon. Given how much it costs to heat this house though...

Maybe use some of it to get some insulation? Treat it as a savings pot.

£1284 in credit!!!
At least octopus show you a forward projection for why they set the monthlies as they do, it's a pretty good graph.
I was going to reduce my monthlies but it seemed to stack up.

so long as they're paying ~7% interest on credit balances that's ok
pretend I've put that four frame meme of young padme and annakin here they are paying ~7% interest on credit balances, right?

Maybe use some of it to get some insulation? Treat it as a savings pot. Only thing i need to do is replace some of the loft insulation and curtains on the front and back doors (but UPVC anyway). Wouldn't touch cavity wall insulation with a barge pole (see this and other threads). Old houses are draughty, comes with the territory.

I wouldn't spend as much as I sub to Spotify on CDs and I wouldn't discover nearly as much new music if I was risking the price of an album up front. I could and would pay more, but the problem is I'm not sure everybody would... I do actually end up going to gigs advertised in artists pages. Spotify even notifies me when artists I play a lot of have upcoming nearby gigs. I would never go to any of those without that integration because I don't search listings!!! I never got these notifications so I never knew they actually have implemented this. Still think they should integrate more direct channels for artists be it merch or something else. On the topic of gas and electricty bills. I am still extremely fortunate to maintain my low costs untill May 2024. Dutch corporate politics however has found their new pot of gold and has determined to basicly retroactively punish people for having solar panels. Soon I will pay euro 20 euro month extra for returning energy to the grid while recieving a 15 euro increase for "maintenace" costs. I do not own my solar panels and pay a 15 euro service fee every month. Its insanity that next year its financially interesting to tell my housing agency to remove the solar panels on my roof....

They do have merch, don't they? Though it seems to rely on the artists to implement it. (was looking at the bottom of the Skating Polly artist page and they had a bunch of stuff like t-shirts)
The gigs and merch stuff never really works out for me though, as it seems to all be US/EU based and so is either irrelevant or the postage costs make it impractical.

Was looking at a document in which I'd kept a history of the gas and electric unit prices starting from January 2019. Safe to say we are not getting back to those values anytime soon but for the first time since it all went to shit I've fixed ours with Octopus Energy. Looking at that document I should have fixed in 2021 but didn't but its one of them things, took a a risk and didn't work out.
The current fix is based on units that I would have been paying from the 1st October anyway on the price cap and instead start a day early. Hopefully done the right thing, just got to submit a meter reading later which I would have done first thing in the morning.

Spotify's gig notifications are a bit rubbish here, so it might depend on the region. There are sites like Songkick and Bandsintown where you can link your Spotify account and get notifications of recommended gigs. Just takes a few minutes to set up.

I had to manually reduce the payments, they don’t seem to want to adjust automatically and have only today let me request a refund. Given they don’t pay me interest (which I think ovo used to do) then they’re not having more than they need in that account.

So my third full month of Octopus and I'm £380 in credit. I worked out my average usage (once export taken into account) between July-September was about £20 pcm.
What do I do?

Oh shush you. I've got solar panels, live alone and have a fairly warm normal temperature. Never been on my own this long so how would I know.

Just log in online it should show you a graph of projected use showing you how you will eat into the credit in winter months.

Just log in online it should show you a graph of projected use showing you how you will eat into the credit in winter months. I had a look on the app and it seems really limited compared to online, so I'll do it there. I might take out £200, leave a month and a half in there. I just don't like the idea of them making interest on my money, either.
