Could I ask some FGers to chuck some numbers at me for your average daily electric kwh usage at home? Running a detached 5 bed house with 3 kids and aside from the usual shit running in the house I do have a few middle class extras drawing powers but I’m hitting 18-20 kwh daily average with weekends up to 24-27. Seems a fuck ton and I can’t figure it out. Google says average 2.4 person house uses 8kwh so intrigued what some fellow minded people who may have more than your average amount of gadgets plugged are using on average.
What say some to you?

An average 2.4 person house will be a 3 bed terrace.
What's your heating setup?
Is your smart meter getting it wrong?

Yeah, seems high. We are like 8 - 16 on a normal day - 4 of us.
Looking back seems like we managed 42kwh on last New Year's Eve!!! I'm guessing running the oven like all day did it.
Any gaming PCs in there running 24/7?

Or maybe a hot tub?

Yeah, about 14kwh per day here, 4 people, 3/4 bed semi. Was about 22 over the summer with the hot tub plugged in though!

I won't lie I had to Google what an airpot was. Seems like a good idea but we always use enough water for tea/coffee and will never understand why people boil a full kettle for one drink. Someone I work with does this and I asked "do you do this at home?" Yeah why?...
To answer the question our usage is 6.4khw on average per day. That's a semi detached with two adults and a five month old. The Mrs is home most of the day and I tend to kill power at the plug in the back room that had all my shit in it. Consoles, TV, printer and pc ect.

Looks like ours averages out at around 6 KW/h during the week when the house is empty during the day, going up to around 10 during the weekend.
3 of us in a 3 bed detached.

5 bed Victorian terrace, 200sqm, 2 kids, average anywhere between 14-22 per day. I work from home but not on a computer, when my wife was full time at home on the computer the average was at the top end of that but it’s more reasonable now she’s back in the office 3/5 days

Yeh , I had a quick look at the cost of an average combi boiler for an average 5 hours a day is £372 a month 😲
... so where the government gets its "the average household wont pay more than £2500 a year" from IDK.

Ours is about 8kWh electricity and 15 kWh on gas daily average over the last couple of weeks. 4 bed detached.

Yesterday we had our first day of £5+ usage of gas since the depths of winter...for all of 1 hour and 45 mins heating for the entire day. I fear what this will be come Jan :/ It might have been the nest doing some weird shit with water heating, it's done stupid stuff before. Thermostat is set to 20C and can't really set it lower cause we have a young boy. In fact I'm planning on increasing it come November cause our living room is always a degree cooler than the hallway

Quite interesting (well, for me anyway) going back over energy usage in loop. Typically use anywhere between 4 and 9 kWh electricity per day for a 2 bed with 2 adults and only me WFH. Friday was a bit on the high side so drilled down to hourly. The crazy thing is I did a load of washing on eco mode between 9-11ish which barely registers, but then did another load at 60 in the afternoon which is hard not to spot. Had a dehumidifier running all day too which isn't terrible (150w), but adds up to a couple of units.

What system is giving you that hourly breakdown?

That's in the loop energy app. Select energy and then day and it'll give you that detail.

Thermostat is set to 20C and can't really set it lower cause we have a young boy. In fact I'm planning on increasing it come November cause our living room is always a degree cooler than the hallway Yeah our heating flicked on the other morning, house temp must have dropped below the min threshold. It was only on for two hours and at 0830 my smart meter said we had used £5.80 of Gas+Lec. The previous day we used about £5.20 over a full 24hours. Insane the difference using central heating made. So yeah, thinking back to winters past when we had the heating on for maybe 10 hours a day (or more) we'd be looking at £25+ a day on current prices. It's fucked. When we got our first £530 British Gas bill this month I thought "there must be some mistake" but have since looked back at our usage for last winter which they used to estimate our bills for this year. And yes, if I multiply last year's kwH usage by the new tarrifs it comes out at approaching £20/day on average. I honestly think the thing that threw me most was that "average of £2.5k" line trotted out by the government. I assumed we were an average household but we are paying over double that figure. I guess the average also includes flats, smaller terraced houses etc. Resigned myself to it now and trying to be stoic about our family being nearly £400 worse off a month. The £66 rebate will help (but want to see the first one credited into our account first as have little faith in British Gas) - and the Mrs talked them into dropping our £530 to £465. They did warn her it may leave us owing them by March but she made the point that we're confident we'll cut out usage compared to last year.

Just realised our little smart meter monitor thing is still calculating on our old April tariff, better remember to double it in my head

Curtains have made a hell of a difference at our house. We've always gone for blinds, but we've stuck curtains up everywhere including one at the front door and mornings are, dare I say it, bearable. When at this point in the year they are always getting miserable at this sort of stage.
Can finally see what all the fuss is about wiping my cock on them too. Win-win.

I'm WFH in a mid terrace & using approx 5 Kw of electricity a day and around 9 Kw of gas a day - that's without the heating on yet so it's just for hot water. So around £3.50 a day at the moment.
Am sure that'll shoot up soon enough once winter starts though.

Guess we'll have to see what the bill is like at 20 and go from there. It's only kicked in once or twice though, and not for long at all. On the plus side, my mum's bill for a week was £30 combined, which given she has the heating on a lot wasn't bad.

Oh, this is going to sound nuts, but I've put bubble wrap (large bubbles) on a lot of my windows (all the annex and hallway, bathrooms and stair window). The reason for this is it apparently acts like secondary glazing and can reduce heat loss through your windows by up to 50%. Light still comes through them and you can see things "sort of" and it doesn't look as hideous as it sounds from the outside. You just use water spray to put it on and peel off in the spring. I've put up thermal curtains (and the poles which were a pain) in the annex as well which make the place look a bit nicer. At the moment I'm sat in 15.6c which is a little cool, but bearable. Main part of the house is 19.5 but I had a fire going last night (from the chainsawed wardrobe) and its sunny. I'd be too worried about condensation fucking my window frames or misting my double glazing if I stuck anything over my windows.

My DIY NAS is probably next on my hitlist now that I think about it. I have a couple of smaller NUC/USFF machines that I might use instead for running 24/7 and just occasionally power up the NAS for a monthly backup instead of having 4x disks running all the time.
