The Bad Religion 88-90 trilogy...
Nothing quite like it. Never will be.

Me too. Its literally the best bassline ever written. Also: Nia Archives just dropped a full album. Its a really cool, bouncy old skool D&B kind of thing. Much recommend. tidal.com/browse/album/215467345

Just been listening to Tangerine Dream.
One of those groups I'd never listened to directly (probably heard loads of their output in soundtracks etc) and I love it.
Clearly a big influence on game soundtracks, especially Final Fantasy.

I never knew they did the street hawk theme. I always assumed it was a cheap knightrider knockoff theme.

Power & Sacrifice and Failure are also great Swans tracks They're a great band. There's a LOT of really good and really different material over their career that I love. From the early, hardcore brutalist stuff: To the "fuck off, goodbye" in the middle-years: And the triumphant mid 2010s return: I've avoided posting any of the really epicly long songs (although some of their best stuff is there), but they've been a ridiculously good band for nearly 40 years now. Amazing, really. Highly recommended to fans of dense, complex themes and loud, loud guitars. Especially if you like an incredible variety of styles, often from one song to the next.

Saw them live a few years ago - only band I've ever seen where they give you earplugs on the way in.
Could feel every note of the bass guitar in my bones!

I was in a meeting when I made that post, so you'll have to excuse my referring to the 80s stuff as "hardcore brutalist" and then posting one of the fey, folksy tracks from Children of God. Doh. Saw them live a few years ago - only band I've ever seen where they give you earplugs on the way in. Could feel every note of the bass guitar in my bones! True. The first time I saw them, I went in with my billy big head "I go to punk gigs all the time" attitude and ignored the plugs. It was a mistake, I was deaf for about 3 days afterwards.

New Cave In Bit of an early Mastodon vibe almost.

Somehow I've managed to never hear of Swans. I assumed they were new but it seems they've been going for decades. That track sounds very The National.

12 years ago Muse and Arcade Fire were in my top 3 favourite bands (along with Radiohead). They could do no wrong, having released arguably the best albums of their careers.
On Thursday they both release new singles and announce new albums. Arcade Fire's The Lightning I, II are fantastic and sound like a return to form after the very wobbly last album. It sounds like the band old, but equally fresh and reinvigorated. I'm very much excited for the album.
Muse on the other hand continue to heavily nose-dive at the ground. Compliance is utter garbage. A plastic imitation of a genre that the band themselves don't seem to understand the appeal of.
They've not been able to write a consistent album since Black Holes and at this point its clear they are creatively exhausted and delusional. They have no quality control and whatever sound they try to imitate, they can't even match the benchmark in terms of quality. They were once distinctive and exciting. Now they sound like a bunch of old men out of touch with the music world they're trying to fit into.
At least my other two faves are seemingly still killing it.

Two Massive Attack soundtrack collabs today.
First is Nature Boy, featuring David Bowie.
Second is I Against I, featuring Mos Def.

I know this song is Stompin' Tom Connors, but there's something about his voice that always makes me think of Harry Shearer.
God, I need to go to an EIHL game again soon.

I was feeling nostalgic for my teen drinking years, so I don't think I ever actually owned Throwing Copper, but when getting ready to go out and pre-loading it often seemed to make it onto the hi-fi. Speaking of, I'm not sure this is particularly good, it's not even the best on the album, but it is the one that was on the THPS2 soundtrack and therefore I heard it a billion times and it is seared into my memory of hanging out with mates. In particular the first few bars, as I'd tend to face plant at that point and need to restart (Papa Roach - Blood Brothers)
