This timeline sucks. Just goes to make you appreciate Disco a little bit more

Gutted, but also not surprised given all the previous noise out of ZA/UM

Rubbish news but I think any sequel would really have struggled to live up to the first. Would love to be proved wrong some day.

I think any Disco sequel created by a studio other than the original developers would most likely be a pale imitation. It's an absolutely bonkers game and there is an absurd amount of great, crazy writing. They must've had coke on tap in the studio. And it is fitting how it all ended.

Yeah, I'm not sure Larian would be able to get the tone of it. It's melancholy and adult and dense in a way that is very different to what they normally bring out.

What a shitshow. Would be excellent if it was just marketing. But it probably isn't.

Yeah, I'm not sure Larian would be able to get the tone of it. It's melancholy and adult and dense in a way that is very different to what they normally bring out. I think they would be best placed to have a stab at it though. The writing in BG3 is consistently excellent. The BOAAAAALLL bits show they can have fun with the weird. With the brief of going full Disco bonkers, I'd be up for seeing what they could manage. Heck, even recruit some of the old writers who left under a cloud (assuming they aren't impossible to work with).

It's not as if Larian are bad at writing! I like their games! I just think the tone of DE is quite different; it's about depression and becoming middle-aged and class struggle, and other very adult themes that D:OS and BG3 don't really get into. And there's basically no combat, which Larian fans might expect at this point.
But sure, if they brought some of the old writers back, it could maybe work. I just don't think it's a perfect match; I think I'd prefer trusting it to someone like Obsidian.

Must admit I've never _really_ been hooked by Obsidian's writing, but agree they have more experience of less conventional games writing.

Disco will join that illustrious list of games where lightning was caught in a bottle. Something like Silent Hill 2 or 3, games made by an extremely talented team that can never be replicated

I love BG3, but Disco Elysium is a very different style of game. I laughed so much playing, but it also was a deeply sad game. The character you play is such a broken man. I can't see Larian getting that balance between humour, often slapstick, and melancholy. Obsidian would probably be better, but even them I could see getting political angle more than the human angle of it. Sad to see the studio go like this, but I'm ok with Disco Elysium being a one off thing. It's a special game and I'm not sure lightning would have struck twice.

There is translated work of Robert Kuvitz's 'Sacred and Terrible Air' set in the same universe of Disco Elysium if you're looking for more. You can find it online if you go searching. One of my favourite streamers managed to hook it up to a PDF reader that looks like the Disco Elysium UI and displaying art of the thought cabinet, that will be released at some point for everyone to try.

The fuck does Cuno care (he definitely cares 😔)?
That said, lightning in a bottle is right. It would have been almost impossible to have bettered DE, funnier than all the other games I've ever played combined and also so miserable. Just total magic. Must play it again.
