Anyone else completed this? Possibly the strangest gaming experience I've ever had. I was bored as often as I was entertained, I laughed as often as I shrugged, I was equally compelled to skip dialogue as I was to pour over every word, I was never sure I was having fun but I couldn't stop all the same. Credits rolled on a "bad" ending involving Cuno and even the ending was abrupt and, a bit.. . Lame. all that said,As I type this, I'm wondering how the residens of Revachol are doing and I kinda miss it.
I'm not sure it's the 10/10 masterpiece it's described as, the ending alone ensures that, and it is VERY slow. but it is definitely something. A something that's buried itself into my mind.how did you folks find it?

I’ve got a copy in the cellophane next to me. Is it worth opening?

I never read dialogue or listen to it in cutscenes so I’m maybe thinking it was a bad purchase

I put it down because of work/family commitments and was so lost when I picked it back up I need to start over. I was loving it though.
Dying because I lost a roll to deter how hard I was looking at a wall was maybe the low point when I’d not saved for awhile. It was like a playing a Vertigo Comics story or something.

It's 80% reading and despite what I said I'd certainly give it a try. Saving regularly Is a must for sure

I'd read it was a pretty good cast doing a pretty good job, too. It's literally top of my Steam Wishlist, and I nearly bought it in the January sales, but I still have Pillars of Eternity 2 and the Planescape reboot thing sitting at five hours each so thought I'd be a good citizen and finish them first. Some year. Not this year. Nor next. But eventually. Fuck.

For me, it's so impressive in just how much depth there is to the game. Not mechanically, but in terms of writing. The different possibilities of how situations can unfold helps create a unique playthrough. The outcome of a bad dice roll can often spiral out of control and gives you some hilarious outcomes while still allowing the story to progress and have the story remember and react to those moments. The quality of writing is great too, it's a unique world backed up by complex and memorable characters (Kim fucking Kitsuragi). It's also unapologetically political which is pretty refreshing given how many games dance around the inclusion of real politics in their game but never brave enough to say their game has a message.
Loved it all, prob top 10 game for me too

I'll be the lone dissenter so far, as I abandoned it last week after three or four hours.
I'm quite happy to put that partly down to being uncomfortable with point-and-clickers. I didn't really have a handle on whether I was supposed to play it like an RPG and only select conversation responses that suited my character, or whether to exhaust every dialogue option. It seemed to me like the game wanted you to do the latter, both to see the funny writing, and to get you to the bits of dialogue that actually advanced the plot/solved whatever your current issue was. So that kinda blew the 'RPG' part out of the water for me.
I really liked some of the characters - Kitsuragi was shaping up to be great, and I liked some of the people you talked to, like the pawn shop owner. Most of the secondary characters were pretty good, actually.
I didn't like the main character at all, or most of the choices he was given. Getting old, I guess!

I think Kitsuragi might be one of my favourite party companions of any game. He's such a champion.

Bought it on PC but haven't really found time to sit down with it - if the Switch version is any good I'll probably grab that at some point because it's the only way I'll find time to play it.
On paper it's pretty much my perfect game.

I was sure we already had a thread on this but can't seem to find it. Absolutely loved the game after picking it up fairly late; the definitive edition update dropped like a week after I first started, so I then restarted my playthrough and was really pleased to see how the different stats/builds subtly altered the (early game) experience.
I'll be honest, though: I pretty much approached it like an old school point and click adventure game. Was really just there to enjoy the world, narrative and art style.

Loved the first area but got to a point where I had no idea what I was meant to do and got bored of wondering around the same area over and over looking for the probable one little thing I'd missed to click on

I got it for Xbox in the Xmas sale and am loving it. Genuinely funny at times and some great characters. It is very wordy though but I don't mind that. When I first started it I was actually thinking about it and what I'm going to do next when I was away from it and a game hasn't grabbed me like that in a long time.
My friend also picked it up and it's interesting to hear how different it has been for him in the early stages. Definitely one I'll go back to replay after a break to try a different build.

The thing I love is that it's one of the few RPGs where I really want to... actually roleplay it. Like I never want to reload to retry skill checks, because the failures are often just as interesting as the successes.

I'm definitely interested but I'm inclined to wait and see if I can get it cheaper since there is some uncertainty about whether I'll like it.
Maybe my sense of gaming value has been permanently distorted due to buying a massive bulk of games back in the days when you could walk out of Gamestation with four or five interesting games for £20 or less. One time I walked out with Disaster Report, Ring of Red, Silent Hill 2 and Dragon Quarter, you just don't find interesting games at those sorts of price points anymore so it's difficult to adjust back to sinking £25 on just one.

I am a save scumming mf and I actually made the game worse for myself because of this. Not only are the failures more interesting than the successes, often they may lead to a better outcome! (For a certain value of better.) And because the protagonist is such a total trainwreck, the game (narratively) encourages you to accept the failures. What, did failing that skill check ruin your fantasy of being a rockstar supercop? That ship sailed before you even started playing. Better get used to it.
The voice acting I found hit-and-miss. Having the same narrator voice for all your inner aspects got really grating. Some characters' reading of the script was clearly off, and pronunciation of non-English words tends to be all over the place. But Cuno, Kim, Klaasje, and Joyce were all pretty much perfect. I'm glad they gave me the option to turn off the narrator voice, who speaks oh so very slowly, and keep all the character voices.

It's £5.99 on the Epic Games Store at the moment with the £8 coupon you get for being on their mailing list.

Yeah, if I have one bit of advice about this amazing game, it would be embrace your failures. Soak yourself up in them until your skin is wrinkled with slick regret.

Loved the chunk of game I played, but the load times on PS4* are fucking atrocious. I nearly died switching a light on and trying to get a tie down from a ceiling fan.

Yeah some failures have very tangible penalties by reducing your physical or mental health which you need to track, but even with that you just gotta roll with it. Also gotta embrace that you won't see every outcome on a single playthrough, there's just no way.

Really tempted to try this out. But the game being so text heavy, I'll probably enjoy this more as a midnight read in bed and not on a TV screen (if that makes any sense). So ideally I would want to try it on a Switch. The performance issues leave me in doubt though.

Loading takes an age but I believe that's the case on other platforms too

I played it last year on release on PS5 and thought it was incredible, certainly my game of the year. Had a few annoying glitches and bugs but those seem to have been ironed out.
