You won't regret it Binky. We cut Sky off completely about 3 years ago and haven't looked back once.

Football and darts aside, I don't think there's anything we'll miss. And even then I can nick a spot on a family member's Sky Go through Xbox.

Family had Sky years ago with digital but I think that got chucked about 2015 when they left the country. They've come back to Netflix and Amazon.
I could happily just have 2 subs and rotate on a monthly basis. Can't watch everything.

VM just rang me and reduced my bill from £55 to £37!
Happy days.
That aside, they offered me 1GB for a lifetime fixed rate of £65 a month!

It's not a stupid question, there's scammers trying to pretend to be o2 calling up to offer a reduced rate and then getting hold of your account.

Don't ever give anyone your account details (ie, password) online or on the phone. No genuine support person will ask you for login details.

The o2 one is pretty clever and must have worked for a bit until o2 realised. They'll call you and say your contract is near it's end and they can look at renewing your contract for a cheaper deal.
Then they'll say that in order for them to proceed they need to send a code (somehow the scammers are able to make o2 send you a code) and if you then give them that code they can change the details so they can steal your account.
Luckily if this happens now o2 send a warning with the code about never giving out this code to any o2 staff or anyone else.

I've not heard about that one, but it doesn't surprise me. Some of them are pretty clever and pretty involved.
I just assume everything is a scam, tbh.

I was with Virgin for maybe 25 years (started back when it was Nynex) until I got a pre-loaded firestick off a mate. 3 years on and I haven't looked back. £75 a year for way more channels than what's on offer legitimately.

What's the story with moving house.
Can I just plug the sky box in at the new place ad tell them I moved?

They have always insisted sending an engineer around to check the dish when I’ve moved but if you didn’t tell them…

I had a sky account in an old place I was renting. Was moving into a new place as they landlord was selling (joys of renting). New place already had sky or virgin or something.
Once I explained that I was moving into a place where the landlord already a set up, they didn't even try to offer me anything, just said fair enough - there's very little that they can say in those circumstances.
So could be a good way to cancel if you want to avoid the sales pitches and negotiation at cancellation.

When I cancelled the Sky, I just said 'I dont want any sort of subscription TV' a couple of times and that was that, they didn't try to counteroffer anything. No phone call to try and tempt me back.
I DONT WANT ANY FORM OF SUBSCRIPTION TV.

I'm pretty excited about the addition of Paramount Plus.
There's 4-5 shows that I'm interested in. Available from Weds.

Netflix confirmed they're doing ads. Officially they're doing a "cheaper" tier with adverts.
This is why I don't have Sky. I either pay for shit and get it or I don't pay and accept adverts.

I'm trying to get a better deal from Sky before my services stop next week (I cancelled a month ago), with sadly no luck. The price they're quoting me now is actually worse than what they were offering last month before I cancelled. And they still seem to charge extra for HD on their channels. In 2022!

FWIW, I've not missed having Sky one iota since cutting it off. Our viewing habits have changed slightly (for the better) and we've still got too much to watch. I'm glad I didn't get offered a deal that made me bite.

The fact that they charge extra for HD shows how behind the times they are. They even fucking do it on Now tv (only used for sports).

Innit. All squeezing that Extra cash. Given I pay a fiver each for films and movies, and a tenner for sport, an extra fiver for HD is fine. £25 for the whole lot isn't bad, even if the quality is shit.

What did you do re sport? Well my dad is still paying for Sky Sports, so I either go and drink rum and watch at his or watch via his login on Xbox Sky Go (which is shocking quality but does the job). For BT it's a case of popping to the pub, embracing the radio, or (and I did this once) grabbing a £25 monthly pass for BT Sport which worked really well. Just a matter of planning to get that when there's a few games on.

So despite my intention to dump Sky, I have not only renewed but taken on extra shit. Upgraded to Sky Q and taken Netflix (£5 per month) and Sky Cinema/Paramount+ (£7 per month). Once it's all installed I'll be able to upgrade to UHD (I'm told for £4 per month), which will give me the Netflix Premium I currently have. So once I stop paying for that, I should end up paying what I'm paying now with added movies and paramount. They also waived the £100 installation fee.
