Incidentally, casual LOTR fans are much more likely to remember Celebrimbor from the Shadow of Mordor games.
I don't think there will be any nods to those tho, different company and all. WB was not involved in this show, right?

Only watched the first episode last night, it looks pretty great like everyone has said, I think you kind of have to go all out on a franchise like this though, otherwise it's kind of a wasted opportunity.
Plotwise, it feels like it's not doing anything new (but probably far too early to make that assumption I guess) and like it's deliberately hitting the same notes and blueprint everyone's used to already, a bit like the Star Wars sequels to the originals.
I'm just glad it wasn't a train wreck and looking forward to the next.

I probably watched it at a bad time. First weekend after holiday and really needed the sleep. Watching it when I went to bed was an error as I could barely keep my eyes open.
I say that it was bad timing, but I also think maybe the first episode was... a bit boring too. Not a lot seemed to happen.
It is clear that this has a massive amount of effort and money being put into it and it really does show. Its quality is obviously much higher than House of Dragon, which I watched the first episode of on Thursday. Having said that, and I know it will likely be unpopular thing to say, I think I got more enjoyment out of HoD.

I found episode 1 a bit wishy washy. The elves are and have always been the most boring thing about LOTR and it’s looking like they’re getting a whole series. I’m expecting a lot more flowery, airy fairy and needlessly enigmatic dialogue. Say what you like about HOTD but at least it gets to the point.
Mankind is the most conflicted race in the series so why can’t we have a series based around them?

WB was not involved in this show, right? It's co-produced by New Line which is part of Warner Bros. So Lenny Henry in Multiversus by Christmas.

The noticeable dip in quality after the movie quality intro grated on me somewhat, but overall it's pretty good. Definitely pips the new Thrones.
And it's great to see Lenny back on the telly.

No idea why Celebrimbor is in Middle Earth either but that might be my memory. Probably the memory, tbh. In the Silmarillion, he's the ruler of Eregion in the Second Age, so that fits. At least, I think my memory is correct. I enjoyed the first couple of episodes in a sort of slow burning, nothing much really happened sort of a way.

I wanted more right after watching the two episodes last night, so watched the ‘Season Preview’. Oddly, they didn’t show much of The Stranger in it, but at least it looks as though it won’t spin its wheels too much.
I enjoyed the brief amount of Peter Mullan as Daddy Dwarf.

A little underwhelmed so far . Looked amazing but found the acting a bit stiff and jarring. Mainly with the elves. The 2 hobbit girls were good as were the dwarfs . Lenny Henry seems to be going for a Cornwall /Jamaican mixed accent. Seems odd. The boat singing was also hilarious

Not really feeling the Galadriel story line so far, like Elrond she is kin of the royal houses. But they seem to be treated like outsiders. IIRC she also wouldn't be allowed into Valinor at the time this is set as she is still banished. Even without the book wankery, it feels unearned and the flash backs aren't enough to care about what she is doing.
.... but gosh is it visually beautiful. Every £$ spent appears on the screen.

I really liked the first two episodes. It’s given me the same wonderment as watching the first films (Jackson) and reading the books for the first time. I just want to give myself to it. Which is a really hard act to do, as the Hobbit films proved. These kind of feels like an extension of the Jackson films, they’ve kept the same tone and visual language. Looking forward to seeing more and hoping it delivers.

I enjoyed the brief amount of Peter Mullan as Daddy Dwarf. That was who it was! I really liked him, and those scenes even if they were a bit over the top. The sneak peak shows more dwarf politics which is fine by me.

Just caught episode 2. It’s getting better now stuff is actually starting to happen. Still feels a bit drawn out in places - the boat conversation for example felt like that felt like the old Whose Line is it Anyway game where they can only ask each other questions.
They’ve obviously chucked a tonne of money at this though. It looks great.

Really didn't like it at first but could have been in a funny mood. Watched both episodes though and it started to get there towards the end.
Looks great though

It was pretty cool to set galadriel up to be a total badass and the shows central character and then have her storyline be this, for some reason

I loved it. It was admittedly a bit slow but found myself engrossed regardless. Agree that it looks absolutely amazing.

What's everyone's guess about the thingy falling? Almost certainly a wizard... they were sent to Middle-Earth in the form old men to help defeat the threat of Sauron. It'd be a big eye-rolly if it's early Gandalf, my guess is it's one of the blue wizards as I think we know they feature in this?

I thought it was maybe one of the blue chaps as well. Didn't see it being any of the others, but very much a wizard, obvs. Or a Terminator.

So far the meteor guy has controlled fire and controlled FIREflys the same way gandalf controlled the moth. So... yeah... I dunno. Maybe its Radagast, the guy who talks to rabbits...

Started watching EP1 last night. All family tired after the weekend. Mrs Alastair first to fall asleep. The Boy also dropped off. And once he woke again he instantly turned it off - "I don't want to miss any of it by dropping off again, so we'll watch the rest tomorrow." He seems pretty keen which I'm pleased about. I was enjoying it though also dropping off!

I’m really enjoying this so far, but I’m already tired of the book wankers pulling it apart online and spoiling future episodes with their predictions.
Some of the racism on display is particularly depressing, but also in no way surprising.

Watched first episode, and while a little boring and slow, I am fully onboard with watching more. Even though my knowledge of the series is limited to a single watch of the lotr trilogy.
The complaining has gotten to hilarious and ridiculous levels. Many complaining about the Irish representation. About how it's portraying the Irish to be dirty looking tramps, looking like it's during the famine, and having ridiculous try hard dramatized Irish accents from non Irish actors. Dumbo's.

I figured they’d use the blue wizards as they’re the most free from being tied down by the existing canon.
Or they’ll go young Gandalf as misplaced fan-service.
