Nobody's tucked in yet then? I'm gonna rinse the first episode as soon as the kids are asleep.

Watched the first episode. It seems like it could be very good. Production values are amazing indeed, though the music is kinda understated. Not sure I'm feeling the characters just yet, but time will tell.
Only, I wonder what Amazon is hoping from this. I'm sure everybody and their grandmas already has a Prime membership for other reasons. How many more could they hope to get? Of course, it's not surprising that they hiked the price just a few weeks ago, but anyway I'm just not sure how many people will suddenly want to subscribe that weren't already.

If someone had told me while in the cinema watching "Saint Maud" that the actor playing the title character would play Galadriel in the most expensive TV show ever made I'd probably have thought them nuts. Morfydd Clark is rather good at this acting lark.

Far out brussel sprout. The trailers did not do this justice its pretty damn good.
I'm still not 100% on some of the Elf casting, Gil-galad and some the Elves aren't how I imagine Elves elves would look but it's a very minor issue. Even liked the Harfoots and the Dwarves were spot on.
One thing to watch for is a character named Theo who is a boy with the voice of a 50 year old 20 a day somker.
Ass Temps Crancked! Feel like I'll watch it as it comes out and rematch the whole thing again.
A cracking start.

It looks better than almost every movie I’ve seen recently. You can definitely see why wheel of time sucked ass. I can’t imagine there was much money left after paying for this.

You can see where the money went. Thats a lot of set dressing going on in some of those scenes.
Looks like they may have managed to pull it off as those first two episodes were way above the first two House of bad Wigs.
No idea how they sound to actual natives, but the accents of both the Harfoots and Dwarves sounded good to me. I’ll be looking forward to the rest of the series.

Well those first two episodes were fucking amazing. Felt like a cinema release not a TV show where the new g.o.t. to me felt very much like a TV show

It's quite a feast for the eyes, but I don't really know the franchise well so a lot of it is over my head story-wise. Found it a bit boring at times honestly, but the sheer scale of the production kept drawing me back in.
Made the mistake of going to the subreddit discussions, urgh.... bunch of racist arseholes. "It's too woke, shoving coloreds and strong women in inappropriate roles just to make it more appealing" wtf?

So I:
- watched the LotR movies (and really liked them); - read the LotR books (and enjoyed them, although I preferred the movies in many respects); - read The Hobbit (and loved it); - watched the Hobbit movies (and really didn't like them at all).
Other than playing the Middle-earth: Shadow of War demo for a bit, this is the sum total of my Tolkien experience and knowledge - based on the first couple of episodes of the Amazon series, does the FG brain trust think it'll all go over my head?

YES. That was class.
Pretty much loved everything about those two episodes.
Very cool seeing the elves and dwarves in their pomp before it all goes tits up and everyone becomes 24hr doom merchants.
Glad to see Amazon have sorted out their picture quality too, as this whole thing looks the fucking nuts.
If they can somehow keep this up, this is going to be a bit special.

I cannot deal with the hair. Each elven greaser cut is worse than the last and the Definitely Not Hobbits seem to go out of their way to drag themselves through every hedge.

As someone who is not that big a fan of Tolkien’s work, apart from the Hobbit novel, this looks and feels brilliant.

Watched the first 2 episodes. It was better than I thought it was going to be, with some really well done, visually arresting scenes. Basic storycraft was also evident, which gives me hope that this is the start of a worthwhile story.
That said, I'm just not buying Galadriel as the grizzled, tortured elven warrior they want her to be. Good choice of main protagonist, and well cast, but I just think they've gone the wrong direction with her character.
Also, some of the dialog and attempted accents were so jarring they completely took me out of the story.
Also, given this is a TV series, why isn't it being shown in 16:9 aspect? I'm getting really tired of 'direct to streaming' content being shown in cinema aspect. It's probably to give content a more epic, cinematic feel - I get it - but I want to use the whole TV screen I paid for dammit! It just seems silly forcing viewers to peer at content through a letterbox, especially content that's never graced a cinema screen.

I thought it was ok. Loved the pre title sequence of the first episode. My main problem is the writing is dull as hell, it’s badly directed, nothing looks real or grimy in the way the films do, so overall it’s a bit plodding. But the second episode is better.
Realistically I think that’s about what I would expect.

So er... we gonna talk about who the wizard might be? Definitely not the obvious two as iirc this show is set before they "appeared" in middle earth.

Yeah they aren't going to spend a gazillion dollars on a series that isn't accessible. Jump in.
For me, first episode was dull. Elves are boring, altho Galadrial is great, and elves waffling about destiny and sunset and sunrise metaphors blah blah blah is extremely boring.
But obviously looks amazing and I expect it will pick up so I will persist.

Just the first ep done so far. Amazing production values. A bit slow but felt it dealt with the setup fairly decently and introduced enough without it feeling cluttered. Looking forward to watching more.
Feeling very spoilt with this and HoD hitting the screen.

I mean if you've watched all the films and read all the books I'm pretty sure you should be fine? I'd be surprised if you had to do a thesis on second age Nimenorean folk history to be able to understand an Amazon Prime series.

I don't know about anyone else. But I'm finding this bloody brilliant. The budget in this is massive and it really shows. The music and story is looking great. Like someone else said, it feels like I'm watching a movie instead of a TV show which is pretty great. No faffing about about backstabbing and treachery. Just a great adventure from A to B at the moment. Loving this

So er... we gonna talk about who the wizard might be? Definitely not the obvious two as iirc this show is set before they "appeared" in middle earth. yep, too early for either of them or the istari - but then it appears that time has been compressed for the events in the series that still take place over hundreds of years in the original lore so i'm reserving judgement i watched it 'live' at 2am thanks to crippling insomnia and fucking loved it, like a pair of comfy old slippers - as above, i think a knowledge of the original films is all you'd really need to engage with this - it seems a lot closer to the feel of the originals than i was expecting it to be but apparently new line have been involved in some way to ensure this happens pisses all over house of dragons, imo

Spoilers, as if you could possibly care about these but still: spoilers.
Galadriel’s gone to Utumno and Elrond’s gone to Moria in the first two eps so I think it’s fair to say it’ll be Gandalf for name recognition and to hell with the continuity. No idea why Celebrimbor is in Middle Earth either but that might be my memory.
No idea why they punted him in on a comet either, looked like something out of a Terminator film.
