I sympathize to some extent as they’re clearly in a lore corner due to deciding to tell the second age stories when they don’t have the rights to the Silmarillion or Histories, but their collapse of the timeline and making shit up to fill the gaps is bizarre and awfully written. Like you said, Mount Doom doesn’t need a frigging origin story, it’s a volcano.

This series is the equivalent of 'all the gear, no idea'.

Close to giving up on this. It's easy on the eye, but it's so badly written.
The world feels small, there is no sense of urgency or peril, I have no interest in any of the characters or feel any connection to their story, the dialogue is amateur, even the CGI at times is a bit ropey.
The latest episode had some decent choreography and the cinematography is nice but it was so fucking dumb.
We had an orc army that seemingly was massive when down in the valley and snaking up to the tower, and yet they seemed to all fit in the tower when they got there (as when Elfboy closed the door behind them, there were non on the bridge). He then smashes the tower, brining it down on them all, and yet later there is loads of the army left?
How did the villagers all get down the hill without passing them? Why didn't they go and attack the remaining orcs in the daylight? Why hide the McGuffin in the one place everyone else would be, and not buried somewhere outside? Why did they need a key to unlock the damn when they could probably have just smashed it up? Why didn't Elfboy smash the thing up that takes the key? Who came up with that plan to flood the volcano and what would have happened if they hadn't dug the tunnels? Surely that damn would have been overflowing anyway already? One minute moody Elf wants to kill OrcElf last, a second later she wants to slit his throat. Why are the villagers SO happy that they have a king now, is one extra man going to totally transform their lives? How did it go from dusk to dawn in 10 minutes?
It's just bland, lazy writing and considering the money they have spent, laughably bad.

Well it's all because of magic/the force/God.

Yeah you need to switch your brain off for this, which I didnt expect. As has been said already, the world feels very small.

When it's circa 50 people it's not really the Promised King, more Promised Provincial Magistrate.

Even if they just threw in a few extra panning aerial shots of smoke on the horizon and ravaged homesteads to prove than more than two villages and one very small ruin existed in the Southlands.
We know that Mordor was basically the size of a country so presumably someone else lived there before it all went to hell.
I’m still a sucker for the way it looks though and I don’t think we’ve really mentioned what a good job they’ve done with the music too. If everything was exactly the same but the score didn’t feel as close to the movies I think it might have lost me slightly but it just gets its nostalgia claws right into me.

When all is said and done it just doesn’t feel very Lord of the Rings/Tolkien, which is ironic as the IP is about the only thing holding it together right now. If this was New Amazon Fantasy World it would have had the Netflix treatment and already been axed.

I’m really enjoying it too. I don’t really understand the argument that it doesn’t feel very LOTRsy when its so alike the films and people dug those

It has some vague visuals of the films but about a tenth of the scope. The movies nailed that there’s this big existential threat and that Middle Earth is a Very Big Place, even compressing a lot of it down, but this so far feels like a mild scuffle with some unconnected events happening elsewhere.

It's okay. They have at least kinda tried, it's just a bit small scale and dull. Some people on here thought Resident Evil was decent, and they didn't try at all.

I don't rate the score either fwiw. I couldn't even hum any of the themes if I had to. Completely generic.

I wouldn’t put it past them but it would also completely fuck with Aragorn being Isildur’s heir.

I can't believe Viggo Mortensen comes out of somebody nicknamed 'Issy'.

It's still all vague. There's nothing to really hold my attention. Galadriel seems half alright and the dwarf king too, and elrond but there's *nothing happening*!

Behind with this but just watched the second to last one. Am I right in thinking they've just pulled this stuff about the elves and the mithril out of their arse?

I thought the last episode was the best yet, mainly because there was minimal talking and the fights were well done. If they'd opened with a similar vibe I think people would have been much more positive.
Them making stuff up is fine, but they are choosing to invent things that at this point at least, are worse than the actual texts.
EDIT: to clarify I have no problem with talking! Just specifically the dialogue in this is shite.

I think the one thing that feels likely to happen that would have me throwing my hands up at them mishandling things is Galadriel having a romantic connection with a human man. There are already three possible contenders too.
Considering elf/mortal* relationships were such unique thing that Tolkien based huge mythic strands of history around them the live action adaptations love chucking them into basically every story.
*elf/human and even that dwarf/elf one from The Hobbit films

A whole lot of self-pitying in the latest episode. Got tiring real fast. Also a few predictable developments. That said, I have no idea who those guys looking for the Stranger (as well as the Stranger himself, but I can at least make a few assumptions about him) are supposed to be. At first I assumed they were wizards, but they look a bit too, ehm, evil.
Wonder what the season finale has in store for us. This season has not been great, or even good in general, I gotta say, but I've been looking forward to the new episode every week, so that's not too bad, I guess.

Yeah, there's a short preview for the season finale at the end of this week's episode. Apparently they only just started shooting season 2, so it might be a while before it turns up.

I enjoyed today's episode but when Adar was asked a question right at the end I was all...
And then they used the on screen text to do it.
I mean really? Did they really need to do that?

Frankly, the thing that most surprised me is the fact that the boot-licker guy was apparently on ground zero of the volcano, and yet he's still just fine and dandy?
