I wondered if Halbrand was going to become the Witch-King but Angmar was in the north, wasn’t it? I thought that. But then I also thought that the witch king didn’t necessarily come from the north, more that he made it is domain. Probably wrong though.

So none of the rings of power exist? All of them do? All but the one?
If it’s none that’s an ungodly amount of content (plus Durin is just being a dwarven dickhead, not a corrupted mind). If it’s all of them, who gives a fuck about Celebrimbor?

What are the rings made of? They don't happen to have some mithril in them do they?

Anyone else find the guy trying to crack onto his sister a bit modern? He does seem a bit out of place, didn't help I misheard his name as Kevin. Later episodes will see him impressing Eärien with his pimped out Renault Clio.

It could be really good if they do it properly. Set the full show over centuries, with the mortal characters aging and dying whilst the elves (and humans that age slower) stay the same. Would help to show how the seemingly petty squabbles between peoples/nations have just as much if to more relevance to those involved, as the threat from Sauron which many will never see.

Well I enjoyed ep4 a lot more then 3. There was more dwarf stuff. Same. I actually enjoyed that, it was good. Glad I didn’t ditch it like I said I was doing to!

They’re definitely doing some weird compression/messing with the timeline, which is understandable, but to be a book wanker for a bit, the rings were forged 1,500 years earlier than where we are right now ( just before the downfall of Numenor, Elendir and Isildur founding Gondor ) They could also be doing a Witcher and showing multiple points of time, but then characters have interacted with each other so probably not.

Another episode taking it nice and slowly, which seems to be driving the critics mad

I don't really care that it's going slowly. Though in some places I sort of wish there was more build-up, like why is Bronwyn the leader of her people giving a boilerplate "rousing speech 101" now.
But for me, the bigger problem is a "I don't give a shit about any of these characters" feeling steadily creeping up on me. I like the dwarf, that's about it. Everyone is just kind of boring.

Yeah.... that was the first one I thought was just too slow and boring in many parts. I think sadly that's my wife done, I imagine they're going to lose casuals at a steady rate if it carries on like that.

I must confess to getting both a bit bored and a bit confused. They seem to be skipping bits that actually matter and dwelling on things that don’t.
It’s telling that I’ve started house of the dragon and I’m enjoying it more.

I wish there was a streaming service that specialised in limited series (appx. 3 episodes long) or periodic film-length installments (think Sharpe). I simply don't think a story should take 30 to 40 hours (or more) to tell. It starts to lose its impact over time, and the audience can easily forget key plot points that happened 30 hours ago.

They’re dragging it out for the sake of avoiding answering questions and keeping fan theories going on rather than world building. It’s all getting rather tedious now, and the more they drag it out the less Tolkien it feels.

And also what’s with the bollocks of Mithril now being connected to the Silmarils and extending the fading light of the elves? It’s just kind of weird. Or Numenor, which is supposed to have the biggest and mightiest army of all time (hence why its downfall is of such significance) is actually a handful of pasty youths being trained in a market by Galadriel? It’s all kinds of infuriating bollocks, but (as stolen off Reddit) it’s also

Basically, this week they got on the boat. Last week they were thinking about getting on the boat, but this week they got on it. Compelling stuff.
Not helped that every time something is about to happen they cut away, and every time where NOTHING is happening they linger on it for an eternity. I thought the credits would never roll.

I'm still enjoying it overall, though the boat scene with the torch/lantern was Eastenders level writing.
Has it been explained why the Orcs are building a tunnel?

Building a tunnel to get around cos they don't like the sunshine? Think Adur could be looking for a way to block the sun permanently, was a bit dull but the last two episodes could be all battle.
Its going to have to be something special because it feels more like small pockets of gang warfare rather than epic armies, whatever Halbrand was running from it hardly seemed like wide spread genocide, I'm sure I've seen no more than a dozen orcs at once.

Two orcs standing on the platform as the train pulls in and they've picked the wrong place to stand.
"I always seem to get either side of the entrance" says one "or the buffers".
"i know" replies the other "You'd think they'd have Mordors'

Nope, not a fan of that last episode. It seems that names are important but everything else is up for grabs…
So we must have MITHRIL only now it’s Elvish energon that they’ve just found out about.
And we must have DURIN only now it’s just the royal name and they could even have avoided the whole reincarnation thorniness except they have to have two Durins for literally no reason.
And we must have CELEBRIMBOR the most middle aged Middle Earth elf yet, who is either going to start making rings soon (so the whole Sauron mystery will collapse) or not (in which case who cares if it’s Celebrimbor).
And we must have lots of other named characters from Tolkien’s legendarium scattered everywhere, get the name in and we’ll make up the rest as we go along…

It's a bit dull is the biggest problem for me. And the casting is a bit shit. And the acting. And the accents. I like the baddies. It's fun when the baddies are around. And the dwarves. If I was a LotR lore nerd I'd also be irritated by all the stupid mashups it's doing. In fact I am irritated based on my limited knowledge.
The next three episodes better be wall to wall dwarves and baddies.

The smallness of it has been quite surprising - the South Lands being at most two villages and a tower, the might of Numenor being a dozen guys in marketplace. But I’m holding out that this is a result of them following Jackson’s template where a lot of the Fellowship was very small until suddenly it wasn’t. Apart from some of the locations of course.

She’s not helped by the script that was handed to her, but Galadriel is terrible.
The “There is a TEMPEST in me” scene was especially cringe.
