But Starfield was made exclusive a while ago because MS own Bethesda and Hellblade is from Ninja Theory a MS studio.
As soon as the mooted acquisition of Bethesda was announced, the big question on everyone's lips was about Starfield/Elder Scrolls/Fallout exclusivity. Spencer could've kept quiet, but instead he spewed a load of mealy-mouthed horseshit about "[taking] other consoles on a case-by-case basis” whenever journalists quizzed him about the topic at hand.
Of course, as soon as the deal was done and the monopoly regulators couldn't rescind their acceptance thereof, this "case-by-case basis" vanished into thin air.
Because these very same regulators are still looking closely at the Activision acquisition, Phil's been full of blather about his determination to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation; now we find out that this generous offer has a three-year time limit.
(Bitter, me? Well... yes. Kind of. Okay - a lot.)
And yes, Jim Ryan's an asshole too.
EDIT: Sorry, Jambo - reading that back, it sounds more aggressive than I'd intended! That's not directed at you in any way.

The latest developments on this front: www.pushsquare.com/news/2022/09/playstation-bites-back-at-inadequate-call-of-duty-offer-from-microsoftPersonally, I don't have a great deal of sympathy for either Phil Spencer *or* Jim Ryan. Spencer's full of PR bullshit about not keeping games away from the people who want to play them - knowing full well that he'll make stuff like Starfield and Hellblade 2 exclusive to Xbox as soon as the ink's dry on the acquisition paperwork - while Ryan has been all too happy to buy PS4 exclusivity for third-party products for years, and now sees fit to complain when the shoe is on the other foot. Yeah, I agree with your take, although that said, I actually like exclusives. But that's because I'm a dumb dumb who buys everything, and I want there to be a bigger reason for doing so. But yeah, Sony's had the longest history of paying for exclusives, and Jim Ryan is kind of a tool in general so I'm a little less sympathetic towards them. But also, they own Bungie now. Halo has had it rough since Bungie split from MS. Why not have them develop an exclusive single + multiplayer but not GaaS Halo AND CoD killer IP?

I still don't think they'll remove it completely - far too much money at risk. It comes down to how much leverage they can get from it. Timed exclusivity, maybe, certainly for content (modes and skins). XBL login requirement, leading to GP leverage on PS? MS constantly talk about being more interested in the service than the plaform.

That's the thing, Derbs - it's all talk.
I don't actually begrudge MS their acquisition of these companies, and the resulting platform exclusives (even when I really want to play them on PlayStation!). It's the disingenuous "Aw, shucks!" stuff that pisses me off.

Gotta say, it does surprise me that people actively defend this, or make the point that Sony have bought exclusives too so it's OK. A 70 billion dollar acquisition is not even on the same planet.
I do think MS's end goal is to have Game Pass everywhere, including on PS. I don't think it's good for consumers because not only can no one realistically compete with MS, with them subsidising these costs from elsewhere, but also because MS controlling a large part of an industry isn't a good thing.
Phil Spencer can do one too, talks utter shite And in the interest of balance, so does Jim Ryan

If we just had one console/system, none of this exclusivity/monopoly stuff need be a concern.

MS full response.
Once again points out how financially dumb it would be for them to take COD off PS.

Rumor is Sony is going to delay/cancel the next showcase as it with strengthen MS argument in regards to Sony's exclusives.

Citing the ZeniMax acquisition, too, and the ensuing exclusivity of Starfield et al. Hey, if MS agree to release the Bethesda stuff on PlayStation as a condition of acquiring ActiBlizz, I'm all for it

Doubt they will. They will likely remind them they always did Bethesda games would be a case by case thing. Might also remind them Sony tried to make it exclusive to PS for a year.

I don't actually expect it to happen - just wishful thinking on my part! (It'd basically be the only way I'd ever get to play Starfield, The Elder Scrolls VI, and Fallout 5.)

On the one hand, this is definitely Microsoft anti-competitive behaviour all over again, but on the other I want to call them MicrActivision.
Apparently I want it so badly that my autocorrect suggested it as soon as I type MicrA.

I don't think this is going to last long
Not sure we need the "Activision, Bethesda and MS Games Studio's" E3 press conference being mentioned every year.

Surely they can come up with something between Blizzard and Activision that's better than Crash Bandicoot for the image

While they don't specifically name Kotick in the latest new scandal, I would be incredibly surprised if his fat, greedy little fingers aren't all over that dirty, corrupt pie.

When I went into my current company I used stacked ranking as an example of a terrible way to score people's performance. They are not the only company doing it though. Think it is fairly widespread in the states.

Someone in the comments for this latest article of nonsense pointed out that Kotick's dead eyes look like those of Yul Brynners' in the original Westworld movie and now it's all I can see:
