I don't entirely buy the argument that CoD is a perpetual money machine. Yeah brand recognition is a big deal but it is possible for stuff to go in/out of fashion. It's entirely possible that if CoD goes exclusive it gets replaced by something else in the hearts and minds of the current CoDcore crowd, like some big new shooter from Ubi, EA or other.

I think Spencer spouted similar platitudes between the announcement of the Zenimax acquisition and its eventual completion, whereupon his tune changed significantly. I expect the exact same sequence of events to play out here.

I don’t think he said anything like “desire to keep X on Y” last time, it was just about existing contracts.
I’d expect COD to stay multiplatform until next gen. Right now it’s more popular on PS and you simply can’t expect the millions of people who own the PS5 to just go and buy an Xbox. Stock shortages plus cost just make it a shitty rug to pull. Plus they’d be leaving so much money on the table, that might be beneficial in justifying the cost of the acquisition.
But in the run up to the next consoles, when people are getting ready to trade everything up, they’ll absolutely use it to leverage Xbox purchases.

Yeah, you can get Final Fantasy, Resident Evil and Devil May Cry on Xbox, but most people buy those on PlayStation. But Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter, Ace Attorney, Mana are big on Nintendo platforms. But of the two, SE is probably the more likely of two, if Sony wanted to counter. |

Sony can't afford to get into that sort of battle with MS, they simply can't compete in an acquisitions battle and it's not how they tend to do things historically. They buy studios but don't tend to pick up entire publishing groups.

That's probably true, but he was full of hollow corporate-speak like
Maybe you're right re CoD remaining multiplatform - it's certainly more of a realistic possibility than seeing Starfield or The Elder Scrolls VI on PlayStation ever was, in hindsight!
Then again, perhaps "our desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation" just means Warzone. Time will tell.

Won't matter for the next few years anyway, it's infinity wards turn this year so it will be the best cod in a couple of years and for the next couple too.
Will be interesting to see if a world of Warcraft sub ends up being part of gamepass ultimate though.

Yeah, they could bring back Pitfall as their Uncharted clone. They obviously want one of those, as they tried to have Tomb Raider be a timed exclusive, and they've announced that Indiana Jones game by Machinegames, was it?

It really disturbs me how naive some people are. That’s a confirmation that they are categorically only committed to releasing the games that were already agreed between Acti and Sony before any of this happened. And frankly that’s only because it would be illegal not to
