SCOTUS dont get to arbitrarily decide things, there has to be an actual lawsuit that’s worked its way up the appeal chain, and even then they can really only decide the constitutionality of it, not whether he’s guilty or not. Even with the current court, I can’t see any situation where they would decide to strike down the statute declaring that - the con Justices have proven they work for the broader GOP, not Trump.

This is a complex situation where it’s a big loss for Trump but could potentially be a big win for GOP. Privately, very few want Trump to run again, and should he end up being charged with federal crime and banned from office, it solves the issue for them whilst simultaneously firing up their user base.

Trump gets convicted of stealing documents. He sues to stop those trying to prevent him from running based on the statues connected the conviction. It goes to SCOTUS.

The problem is a large minority that just don’t seem to care about anything he’s done wrong and Republican politicians that just fall into line behind him when needed. If any of them had anything about them he’d never has got as far as he has or stayed there.

That's not all, the J6C has more or less reached the final conclusion that trump did it. They've finished with the t's and they're just dotting the i's now.

Not to mention the litany of cases involving Georgia, the Capitol police, NYC tax fraud and another rape allegation.

It's ridiculous. 

Just to add insult, Fox has sidelined him completely, refusing to cover anything about him good or bad. DeSantis is their new fascist god now.

They mostly talked about Hillary’s emails while showing the raid footage.

This all does have the whiff of backfiring spectacularly right now though. The GOP have been handed an absolutely massive talking point for November and are already leaning hard into it. Like I suggested a few posts back, should Trump actually be prosecuted and taken out of the running in some way, they ultimately score a colossal victory as they’ve removed their biggest challenge without getting their hands dirty.

Combine that with the Dem’s massive bluff of supporting far-right conspiracy loons in the GOP primaries under the belief that they’ll be easier to beat in a November showdown, and you have potentially a Very Bad Outcome looming. Not that I think they shouldn’t go after Trump if they have hard evidence he’s broken the law, and I believe it when the WH says they had no knowledge about it, but it’s still very unfortunate timing.

I'll be delighted if was actually jailed or even faces criminal charges but his entire life has been a massive grift, defaults, defrauding, scams and he still became the fucking president of the USA.

The true believers don’t matter. Haven’t in years. They are too far gone. But they didn’t number enough to save Trump in 2020. I don’t think, frankly, they will be enough to save the GOP in three months. Inflation is going down. Biden’s making big wins. Trump is fully imploding. The NAGA nutters are winning primaries and they will lose in the general. Fetterman is going to be a senator and that’s going to be great.
