Really hope the UK and EU keep providing funding to the Ukraine as the US is going to cut all funding when the orange turd gets in. Just reading the reddit thread: Donald Trump Jr mocks President Zelensky saying Ukraine’s ‘allowance is about to run out’
First its funny trump jr mocks someone else for "allowance" and its hard to guess if the anti-Ukraine comments are from MAGA chuds or Tankie filth chuds!

My guess we will. The security to Ukraine is vital for Europe and the Eastern border of NATO. Whatever that support will be I don’t know whether it’s more money or even boots on the ground in a supporting role. Too be honest Russia has shown their army is worth jack shit that some actual pressure on them would see them capitulate to be honest.

Problem is the US reconnaissance. Without that, Ukraine will have a serious disadvantage compared to now. But yeah if the UK and Germany would finnaly give them the green light to use long range missiles anywhere they can reach, could maybe counter that.

It’s funny that our American friends went from the paranoia of McCarthyism and Vietnam to actively supporting or possibly being compromised by Russia.
I mean how many films and books and games have you consumed in your lifetime where Russia is the enemy.
It really does blow my mind - you’d think it’d almost be cultural that this would feel like a traitor move

I do wonder if Trump will give info and intelligence on Ukraine to Putin plus info on western countries as well?

One post election change to the US policy is allowing American contractors to do repairs in Ukraine itself, they're going to be well away from the front but it means the work can be done by people who got the training rather than the rather difficult methods now.

Is anyone else struggling to square the information that came in the run up to the election, the record amount of early voting and the record queues on the day itself, with the final numbers? It was just such a moment of whiplash that I've only just got to thinking about those articles again. How do record numbers like that result in far less than 2020 overall?

He's for sale to the highest bidder, going once going twice, of course he will Is anyone else struggling to square the information that came in the run up to the election, the record amount of early voting and the record queues on the day itself, with the final numbers? To be fair, states like California are still counting votes so the final tally could be much closer to 2020 numbers (not that it would change the final result)... But yeah the post-mortem of this (if there is one, with Trump in charge) should be interesting

The Leopards have started the face eating

Trump 2 "They need us, more than we need them."; is US Brexit, but it isn't going to take six years for the leopards to start eating faces, en mass.
Canada and Mexico will suffer badly, but geography is a key factor in international trade. The US is a big player, but this is a huge overplay of its significance. It will end up isolated and floundering.

I was just at a family event where the olds seemed to think Putin wanted Harris to win..
I think we are entering an age of populism where support will be given to whomever can shout the loudest demagoguery and algorithms will reward rage bait and dominate the narrative on social media.
I don't know how you can win against that.
Reason, facts, science, nuance, decency doesn't work.
Trump has managed to get both the working class and the billionaire elites flocking to him. It seems almost every demographic shifted towards him this time.

It really does blow my mind - you’d think it’d almost be cultural that this would feel like a traitor move We grew up with all these movies where the plot was about some politician being compromised, or watergate level scandals, etc... and they all seem kinda quaint now. Turns out all those corrupt politicians were worrying over nothing and if their bad behavior had been discovered it wouldn't actually have brought down the country.

It gets beaten once it fails. In one of RFK Jr's first interviews after the election. He talks about the US having one of the worst COVID death records. 16% of global deaths, from 4% of global population. But he puts the blame at the door of the FDA, not the clown in charge, pushing horse wormers and asking if disinfectant can be administered via injection. These are snake oil salesmen, their golden age will turn out to be a golden shower.

Perhaps one ray of hope, is that a large proportion of his followers didn't really take him seriously when he made some of his more extreme promises. So if he follows through on those, he'll get two years of extremity before a midterm implosion drags him back to reality.
But maybe not. Either way I hope the Democrats manage to get their shit together quickly, there's no way the Republicans are going to.

I think we are entering an age of populism where support will be given to whomever can shout the loudest demagoguery Aside from social media has that much changed over the decades? It's a series of rapidly decreasing subsets. Voters > Voters who read a party manifesto > voters who critically analyse those policies > voters who make a decision based on fact. I don't think there has ever been a golden age of democracy.

I think there might have been an age where a lot more people paid attention to (for example) the news. And you had political shows run by intellectuals who weren't *completely* full of shit.

Yeah I think politics was at least taken seriously before now it feels like tv and the papers chase ratings and engagement. Seems quaint now but it wasn’t that long* ago people lost their shit that Nick Griffin appeared on Question Time. But that’s the door the BBC opened. It’s not that it was never an issue but there was a sense of control over it, now with social media anything goes. * it was actually 16 years ago.

Only in the Europa Conference places apparently but he’s managed to really dominate the last twenty years with a higher appearances per year rate than some of those above him
Kenneth Clarke 59 1982–2019 Shirley Williams 58 1980–2015 Menzies Campbell 47 1987–2017 Harriet Harman 45 1981–2015 Charles Kennedy 44 1983–2015 Clare Short 38 1980–2011 Nigel Farage 37 2000–2024
and that lot above him were all either elected MPs or sitting peers during their appearances. He was neither until five minutes ago.
