I'd prefer to have candidates who can, you know, win a general election. I don't hate AOC, but it doesn't feel like she's got much talent at convincing people who don't already agree with her.
If we have to go with someone younger, apparently Pete Buttigieg is doing well. He's got the relevant experience, and is a regular guest on Fox News. Regardless of what you feel about it, it's where a lot of the country gets their news from, and appearing there is probably better as a political strategy than saying "fuck conservatives, I'm not talking to them!"
I think the party is going to choose Biden anyway, regardless of all the moaning, because Biden beat Trump the first time around.

I'm not sure I, US democracy, or much of the world could withstand four more years of Trump; accordingly, I'd be keeping everything crossed and/or tied in knots for another Biden victory, were that scenario to come to pass.
It's a bloody depressing idea, though.

Biden’s ineffectiveness means we’re pretty much getting Trump’s second term anyway (or at least the GOP agenda), but with added “let’s try harder to subvert democracy” on top of it.

Can't argue with that, but the idea of an ACTUAL second term for Trump makes my blood run cold. The guy's utterly unhinged, as the January 6 committee has amply demonstrated (if further proof were needed!), and now he has an entire potato crop's worth of additional chips on his shoulder 'cause he thinks 2020 was "stolen" from him.

I'm undecided on whether I think he's going to run again. I don't think anyone outside his diehard supporters wants him to, least of all the Republican party. But he doesn't care about the Republican party, so... I guess he's in?

Two whole years to go before an eventual candidate is selected at the party conference.
Trump’s already essentially non-existent mental state continues to decline towards its eventual consistency-of-tapioca state. Murdoch papers are turning on him. Fox News has been teeing up the knife in the back for months now.
If Trump backed candidates perform above the mean in the mid terms he could rally his standing if within the GOP and regain the mantle of influence the media loves to bestow him with.
Thing is, no one is dumb enough to write the cunt off again. Even if he is dead
In fact, if the universe does us a solid and kills him off soon, it’ll be an amusing footnote to 2024 to learn how many folks wrote him in anyways on their ballot
