Edit: To fairly little fanfare, DC Universe Infinite UK was finally released in UK on 28/4/22. Unlike the Marvel equivalent, you can only read your comics on apps on iOS and Android. Not via your browser on PC. Which might be disappointing to some. But it is out. Recommendations always gratefully recommended. Click here for QR code to find the app on your platform of choice.
For those that are unaware, Marvel has created a service called Marvel Unlimited, where you can pay a monthly or annual fee to access a library of 28,000 comics and read them. Think Netflix for comics. There is either a 3 month or 6 month gap between a comic appearing in your comic book store and then landing on the service. As always, there is an app for this, so you can read this on your tablet, computer, phone, whatever. Click here if you want to sign upI am hoping that there are a few geeks that are already signed up and I would love it if people would share their recommendations. I love comics, but am no longer as up to date as I was with them when I was younger. If you have the app, I will imagine that you have already read this, but for people that are not aware, you can read this in the app. It's a great story. Click here for the review of Spiderman: Life Story

Tempted to sign up again. £41 for 12 months isn't too bad.

Of all the things I have to pay for as an adult, this is the one service that I don't resent paying. Do it, let's geek out over comics and recommendations! We can argue over who is better Dan Slott or Tom King. And when one of us disagrees with the other, we can do what all the other geeks do. Doxx and swat each other (Obviously joking)

It’s Tom King and I’ll ban anyone who disagrees.
Could be worth making this a comic thread in general. There’s also DC Universe Whatever for DC and ComiXology for a broader range as far as digital sub services goes. Don’t know their availability outside of the US though, but ComiXology is ace. My phone is also auto correcting the capital X in the name. I’m not a corporate stooge, just lazy.

How do the subs compare price wise? Last time I subbed to MU I literally just read Spiderman. I haven't read any other Marvel or DC stuff since I was a child.

I prefer to own my digital assets.
The best thing about comics is collecting the actual comics. Could be good for die hard Marvel fans though. Definitely interesting.

I see comixology is only available for US customers. Shame as that service looks good.

oh, that's a shame. It's owned by Amazon so I would've imagined it'd be worldwide.

Apparently you can VPN your way round it if you create and add a US address to your Amazon account and then sign into comixology via VPN.

Signed up to MU again. The missus was asking me if I wanted anything for Xmas. Sex was shot down quickly so a years sub for this was the next best thing. Will add that Spidey life story. Also added planet and world war hulk as I've heard so much about them.
Any marvel recommendations from experts on here?

And they wonder why we still read comics. I must admit it's been a tough wank looking at pictures of Aunt May, but we'll get there. We'll get there.

Off the top of my head, addyb, I would try some of these. Daredevil (1998-2012). 132 issues. From memory, only about 8 shit ones. Ultimate Fantastic Four. Ultimate Spider-Man. Black Widow (2020-present) Invincible Iron Man (2008-2012) 1602 (2003-2004) Vision (2015-2016) Ultimate X-Men That should get you started. But again, 29,000 comics are available. That's barely scratching the surface. There are all the events that are worth reading, like King in Black. Secret Empire. Empyre. House of M. But I'm sure there are other geeks that are happy to chime in. The weird thing is, I don't enjoy reading comics from 60-80s. The older heels are always like, you have to read this Jim Starlin run on Thanos from 1985. But they are hard to enjoy to me. Not my era,I guess. Looking forward to other recommendations.

I am a geek on a budget and with limited storage space. I totally agree that collecting comics is fun. And for many years, I did exactly that. But unlike you, I have not cracked that unholy trinity of adequate space to store my comics, adequate disposable income to support my habit and adequate spare time to actually read and re-read my comics. In that sense, MU is actually fantastic. I have to be honest, if they asked for £200 a year for that sub, it would still be a steal. Anytime I have a hankering for a comic reading session, I will make sure I read enough comics to make up the price of an annual sub. But still, if you are not a MU subscriber, you will hopefully have a bunch of Marvel Comics recommendations?

I mean, he’s only done The Vision for Marvel but that’s pretty good. I think he may have done some X-men here and there too, but can’t remember.

But still, if you are not a MU subscriber, you will hopefully have a bunch of Marvel Comics recommendations? Sheesh, settle down petal. Nobody is begrudging you the lending library nor asking you to continue cluttering up your shoebox with A4 stacks of children's literature. If I wanted to read digital comics I'd rather own said digital comics is all but that's just me. Bonus points if they are actually sellable, tradable with built in raribility, as the traditional comic book markets were built upon this foundation. 200 quid a year will still get you a sizable digital stack that you'd likely struggle to find the time to read too except you would at least own them. And you can do this already in a few different ways so for those with enough disposable income then this seems like a good, complimentary idea. Ideally though they should of added the service to disney+ and properly cheapen the market.

I have just finished the Dan Slott run of Silver Surfer. Click here for a review. It was a decent read with a fairly strong Grant Morrison vibe. In a good way. And with an unexpected happy-ish ending. Worth checking out on Marvel Unlimited. Silver Surfer (2016-2017) 14 issues.

Is anyone else struggling with all the X books at the minute? I really enjoyed House of X and Powers of X but only kept on X-Men after that and (setting aside X of Swords which I really should have known I wouldn't be able to follow) I really get the impression that the writers expect you to be keeping abreast of EVERYTHING going on with the mutants. I personally couldn't give a shit about Kitty Pryde and her band of pirates or what's going on with Wolverine but there seem to be significant overarching plotlines happening in those books that develop in others without being given a background.
In saying that I read the first 2 issues of Immortal X-Men this morning and that's a fun book. Gillen writes a fun Mr. Sinister.
How current are the offerings on Marvel Unlimited now anyway?

As I understand it, there is still a 6 month gap between a comic being published and then landing on the service. If at all. Thanks for posting that article, alcachofa . I've not been checking in this thread very much. But that was a fun read. I've also not been reading very many comics for a few months, but did want to recommend Spiderman: Hooky (1986). A rare Bernie Wrightson-drawn comic on the service. One I remember reading all the way back in 1986 itself! A one-shot that was printed on glossy paper, which made the colours pop/ Worth a read.

DC do a really nice range of graphic novels aimed at younger kids, especially girls. But DC don't have any kind of service like Marvel Unlimited, at least not internationally. (eg: www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Meg-Cabot/dp/1401286208/ref=pd_sim_sccl_1_3/356-9800786-6377119 and the ones in the recommendations (Antihero, Primer, Diana: Princess of the Amazons, Zatanna and the house of secrets, etc.. ) Does Marvel have anything like this? The Ms Marvel, Marvel Rising, Squirrel Girl, Mary Jane ones seem like they're in the right ball park. But anyone know if there's much more than that?

Obviously I have no idea where you are based, but DC does actually have a Marvel Unlimited alternative. It is slowly rolling out internationally and is available in UK since about May this year. www.dcuniverseinfinite.com/coming-soon-apps/Unfortunately, unlike the Marvel offering, this service is app only. Android and iOS. But not on PC.

Hmm. I think I checked back in April or May, so things may have changed. I will check it out and see.
Thanks!

Don't care much for Marvel but the DC one is looking good. When did it launch fully? The selection is mostly good but there are some glaring omissions such as only the first few issues of Sandman (maybe they will all be released after the Netflix series premiers) as well as 100 Bullets and Transmetropolitan. In fact, I am tempted to sign up to read the Vertigo collection but they don't have the more obscure stuff there.
But it is good to see that they have almost all of Alan Moore's stuff up there, as well as Warren Ellis' and Grant Morrison's big hitters. £55 for a year seems great value to me.

If I remember rightly, it was launched on 28/4/22. It was promised for a summer '21 launch. Which never happened. And I found out on the day that it was coming out. Signed up immediately!
