Just tried it. It's definitely not for me - it does everything I hate at the start of games: an overly long intro, too long of not controlling anything and when you do it feels like I'm moving slowly in mud.
Looks kinda nice but I know I'll never get far in it.

TEW2 has one of the best 4th wall breaking moments in gaming.

Hi-Fi Rush was excellent and Evil Within 2 is sorely underrated. Anyone who enjoyed RE Village should give EW2 a go - very similar structure and it's the superior game for my money (even though it's not very scary). I would say Resi Village pips it due to better game feel and not feeling overly long as EW2 felt it could have and should have cut at least one section out.

Gonna start this tonight, after a very eventful day. Maybe I can squeeze two hours before going to bed somehow.
I wonder if I can get to 60fps on my system. I could even play on Series S, although I'm going to assume it would be... blurry.

Playing on S at home and yeah it's very, very, soft looking. With the black bars on the screen it's incredibly reminiscent of The Order 1886 so it's softness isn't that bad.

Played the first hour on pc and it's running beautifully. I think graphically it's a new benchmark or at least alongside Alan Wake 2.
The sound is just incredible though. Returnal used to be my favourite game for audio but this is just crazy. It probably helps having a pretty decent headset but you really shouldn't be playing this without a headset.
Combat is better in this than the first, puzzles seem the same but a little less annoying.
Really looking forward to playing some more.
If you don't like the first this won't change your mind but if you liked the first you are in for a treat.

Yeah it looks stunning and the sound is perfect. Not surprised when they use a set up that costs over 10k. Think I'm on chapter 3 and really enjoyed three Ritual piece .

Playing on PC: it’s certainly a treat. Shame that Windows continues to reset my 3D audio settings.

So I did manage get a couple hours in. There seems to be less game than in the first one, even. But some great setpieces and the audio design is something else. Headphones help a lot.
It is heavyweight for sure. While CPU load doesn't seem bad even on my Ryzen 3600, the Radeon 6600 XT can only hold 60fps (with drops during heavier sequences) in ultrawide 1080p with Low settings and FSR3 on Balanced. It looks quite soft at times and the image isn't that stable, but it could have been worse, I guess.

Hmm disappointed by the reports of it being more of the same. The first was almost like a really good tech demo. I was under the impression they were really going to go to town on the sequel.
I'll probably pick it up further down the line, but not a full price title if it's just prettier and incrementally better gameplay.

2 chapters in and the review scores being all over the place make total sense.
The graphics are probably the best I've seen and the animation and motion capture, even during fights is exceptional. It creates something so cinematic, so lifelike that my partner who hates videogames was shouting at the TV she was so involved and even wanted to stay up late just to watch.
But on the flip side of that ridiculously good animation blending so far well with the environment, is that it's extremely linear and the fight system is puddle deep though often spectacular. Still as mentioned, there's not a huge amount of "game" or depth, almost none really.
For me personally I'm loving it 2 chapters in as a form of interactive movie/fairground attraction. Early on at least the devs are seemingly aware there's minimal depth, so before your attention starts to wander they melt your eyeballs with another set piece or fight sequence.
Light and sound design as mentioned is also outrageously good.
If they could have increased the exploration and depth of combat with the same level of animation and detail, it would have blown everyone's minds.
As it stands, I'm loving it as an experience, but the lack of any depth means it's the absolute definition of one and done, ideal Gamepass game in that respect.

On the positive, for now, Xbox have already greenlit their next game so they're not closing down for the foreseeable future. FOR NOW. Arkane was checking in code on Redfall DLC 4 hrs prior to their closure announcement and both they and Tango got public votes of confidence from MS with promises of expansion. It is a losing game having to guess with MS intentions are with closing studios when it looks like they don't even know what the passing metric of success is. But you also can't blame anyone for feeling skeptical.

Arkane had barely anyone left when it was closed though.

About to start. Decided to play it on series x for the big screen vibes over my pc although I haven’t bothered to check if the Xbox version is seriously gimped version.

Finished chapter 1. Yep this is my kind of jam. Love games like this, aw2, soma. Full of atmosphere and you feel like you’re playing an interactive movie.

As an aside, I've just been reminded that Dragon's Lair is now 41 years old.

I always liked the score: there was a track called Grimr on the first game as you battled through enemy after enemy. Always love the throat singing.

The camp at night was absolutely stunning stuff, the lighting was absolutely spot on.
Want to keep playing it loads but at the same time I don't want to finish it too fast as it's a definite one and done game for me.

The visuals and audio in this are absolutely insane. Gameplay, not so much but based on the hour I played last night it's certainly an *experience*.

One thing I also want to point out is that I can't even say "oh, stick the framerate to 30fps and go nuts with the settings", because if I try to set it to High, it goes past VRAM limits and starts stuttering like crazy. So yeah, it's either Low and FSR3 Balanced for 60fps, or Medium and FSR AA for 30fps.
