Ha ha, I fucking love Ben White. He looks absolutely ridiculous but also awesome at the same time. He is getting dangerously close to pink range rover territory though.

Who was that player ten years ago / maybe a lot more - had awful taste in clothes and cars? Cannot remember his name. Was an English midfielder and for some reason think he might have played for Coventry. Or Villa. Or both? Had garish cars and the like. Anyone recall?

Stephen Ireland. He sold his pink car for charity.

I kinda feel sorry for him. He had a great club career going, 4 goals in his first 6 games for Ireland and then the granny thing happened and the slide began. Maybe he had things he couldn't deal with at the time or maybe he wasn't that bright but I remember him working his ass off a few years later looking for the spark to come back. But it never did.

And also he was not English and he played for City - easily confused with Coventry given their respective statures in the game back then + The sky blue.

Injury issues to go along with some personal problems put paid to him. There was both he and Michael Johnson (to a greater degree, poor fella) who looked like really really good youth products for City and both just disappeared.

Wtf was the granny thing? Googling it says that he lied about two or three (yes three) different grandmothers of his dying so he could skip a couple matches...

POTY at City just as it all kicked off with Robinho et al he was absolutely brilliant, he came back from summer break one season a transformed player, I seem to recall him putting it down to a summer break of kickboxing training.

Sorry, it's probably the thing most remembered about him here. Thanks to JuniorFE for filling in the gaps and for googling on Geefe's behalf.

To be fair to him, the real reason was his partner had had a miscarriage and he didn't want to tell anyone that, got caught up in a lie and it was al a big mess but a horrible situation for his family.

Yeah, sounds familiar. Later (maybe at Stoke?), he was coming back for pre-season early and running up and down the steps on the biggest stand, Rocky-montage style. Must've been hard to get so close to the top and have it just drift away steadily no matter what you did to get it back.

I thought that was at City but you're probably right. I was going to mention it myself as looking back, it's quite a funny piece of imagery really.

Ireland was with us at Newcastle for a bit too. He played ok but only managed two or three appearances. Clearly he was a man with bigger problems off the pitch.
He had a silly blue car to go with the pink didn’t he?
Andy Carroll has made some garish choices over the years too. I’m pretty sure his house looked like the Big Breakfast one at one point.

I'd have had a bit more if Aldershot had managed to keep a clean sheet but I'm not going to complain too much about going 7-0 up against Swindon then letting them have 4 consolation goals. Didn't think they'd have much chance really while 1200 Shots fans obviously did as the away tickets were sold out.
First time a non-league side has scored 7 against a league side in the FA Cup, possibly could have been 8 as the disallowed goal apparently wasn't offside. BBC Wiltshire's commentators said the final score flattered Swindon.

Very cool that we got to the quarter finals last time round and we're now on the verge of getting knocked out by bloody Slough.

WTF, 3rd round draw was earlier?
Arsenal vs Liverpool, decent tie.

At the Aldershot - Stockport game, feels a bit odd to know the Shots will be away at WBA if they win.

Newcastle vs Sunderland is very tasty too. And Manchester United got an away draw. Kinda.

Last season we broke the record, now just extending it. That’s thirteen consecutive away FA Cup draws. 1 in 8,192 chance.

Bit sad we got knocked out and won't be trying to better our quarter final place last time round but our team is in a mess and could do with concentrating on the league.

First real Tyne Wear Derby in seven years* should be a riot.
*Sunderland’s senior side beating Newcastle U23s in the Johnson’s Paint Trophy doesn’t count

Shots take the game to a replay (2-2), very even match and if both sides had taken their chances then they'd not be playing it again. I feared the worst when Stockport, who are top of League 2, took the lead in the first minute of the second half.
It's been a while since Aldershot Town have been in League 2 so it was comforting to see the officials are still as shit as I remember.
More money for the team is welcome if not an extra game when we're doing well in the National League and really want to get a good run the FA Trophy.

Ah, the 8pm Thursday night 3rd round slot is a new tradition. Perfect for traveling from Liverpool to London and back.

That is certainly not ideal for Everton fans.
It's also lovely to see the TV companies absolutely not giving a shit about any of the lower league teams in the competition.
