Lets not forget, the greatest game ever i.e. Alpha Protocol (N.B. is definitely not the greatest game ever, but I loved it) was given a 6 by EG and lots of other places. It was absolutely flawed, but was such a lot of fun.
I too likes a janky, but fun game.

There is a big difference between a game that averages 6/10 and one that is solid 6/10.
High on life is 6/10 because the whole thing is just bland and mediocre.there is nothing great but conversely nothing fucking awful.
Alpha Protocol is 10/10 for parts then 3/10 for bosses then 10/10 for story and ambition and branching then 3/10 as whole arts are broken or unfinished. So averages out at 6/10.

I wish I had bought it* on one of the digital services back when it was still available. Now they are just too lazy to put it back on there without the licensed music. Typical.
*though I have a retail version.

Sega own the AP IP don't they?

Yes, I believe it had to be removed because they didn't have the rights to some licensed music anymore. But it never reappeared.

I have half a mind of replaying Shadow of the Colossus. I'ts been so long, I can't really remember how any of the colossi worked... so it would be a good time to play it again.
All I have access to, is the PS2 version which I'd need to play on emulator. Should work well, I guess?

If you've got ps plus I think it's part of the collection.

Almost a third of the way through the month already, and still no release information for the System Shock remake beyond "March 2023" (and that's just on PC - I don't think consoles even have a release window attached yet).
Another delay on the cards?

Alright, SOTC really doesn't run all that well on PCSX2 (intermittent heavy slowdowns, including the sound), but I guess it's playable enough, so...
Might as well.

This proved unusually prescient of me:

Only until May, so could be a lot worse. Looking forward to this. Bonus that I kick-started it aeons ago so should get a core.

Still no console details, but I suppose the PC release will be the first step in that direction.
I really hope it'll be good - I've loved my time with the BioShock games, and Judas seems a long way off yet. I'm counting on System Shock to scratch that itch for a while in the meantime.

SS1 was extremely different from Bioshock, however I can't quite tell if this remake will go in that direction since the Bioshock games have obviously been much more successful. So far they seem to be channeling SS2 more though, which doesn't surprise me because it's the more well known game of the two.

malek86I'm a total gaming n00b (did I use that right?), so I'll take your word for it. All I know is that the System Shock games somehow influenced the BioShock series, and that alone is enough to make me excited for the remake In the meantime, I'm going to finish up Infinite before making a long-overdue start on The Witcher 3.

If you can, do give SS1 a try. The original control system must be seen to be believed. (luckily the Enhanced Edition gives the choice of a more modern control scheme, but I'm too used to the original by now, so...)

Turns out Multiversus was in open beta this whole time, as news to me and everyone else still playing it. Getting delisted from June and launching again in 2024. Wild story considering they never advertised it as a beta and people spent real money on cosmetics. Well, reports were that they game had a huge player drop off, so no doubt this "beta" is an excuse to relaunch the game.

Pretty sure it still says welcome to the open beta on the start screen?

Just wondering... has there ever been a developer who was owned by a publisher, then got sold or became independent, and then later on was re-bought by the same publisher?

Just wondering... has there ever been a developer who was owned by a publisher, then got sold or became independent, and then later on was re-bought by the same publisher? Can’t think of one. Bungie probably comes closest to that trajectory, but obviously it wasn’t the same publisher buying them the second time. I imagine it’s quite a big ask to buy out a studio and take it independent, mainly because of publishers wanting to hold onto the IP. If keeping the IP is not a factor, most individual developers / teams will just leave and start afresh instead.

Can't think of any.
See some happy to build studios, sell them to a publisher then leave. Start over then sell the new company to the same publisher but that's it.

The little info there is doesn't sound revolutionary, but well... it's a Milestone game. Still I'm excited!
