Eurogamer reports it here: www.eurogamer.net/articles/2021-11-24-amazon-nearing-a-deal-for-mass-effect-tv-seriesThe reaction from some ME fans has been hilariously bizarre, with people demanding it not be about the main characters or plot. Like what hell? Did they expect The Witcher show to be about some random other Witcher or something? Or The Expanse to not follow the books at all? Anyway, I imagine it will roughly track with the games and could potentially be pretty awesome.

Imagine the neckbeard outcry if they go with Femshep as the main character...

Imagine the neckbeard outcry if they go with Femshep as the main character... I hope they do, just for that. Sounds like a terrible premise for a series if they do follow the game story arc. Especially given how popular the ending isn't.

I mean that already did it with the Reapers showing up at the end of Picard so why not?

If it was me I'd just write it entirely gender neutral and then cast whomever, to replicate the character creation aspect of the game.

Or really stick it to the neckbeards and cast it entirely non-binary

Cast Mark Vanderloo, but have him unironically play it like Derek Zoolander.

Surely the most neckbeard thing in the world is going on about how much better female Shepard is?

Make it a choose your own adventure / plot decisions, which after three series ultimately all lead up to the same final choice, which doesn't actually have very different outcomes.
Would be canon at least.

People lost their shit over the end of GoT. We know how this ends (synthesis right?)

If its on Amazon it won't make it to the end, they'll cancel it a couple of series in on a cliffhanger ending.

People will lose their shit because the Shepard of the show doesn't exactly follow the head canon they've created for themselves especially in terms of gender and sexuality. It's inevitable.

The First Contact War has been mentioned as a possible setting. I can imagine that being a good starting point for entry into the ME universe, as the humans involved would encounter the Turians for the first time, and then be introduced to the other council races. Could be a good way to allow an audience unfamiliar with it to get to know the lore without it being dumped on them all at once.

Blue and green were both doing what Reaper boy wanted though, weren't they? Only red accomplished what you spent three games doing, stopping the Reapers.

I thought it was more about moving beyond the cycle of destruction. I spent a mission brokering peace between the Geth and the Quarians. Do I discard that completely and destroy the Geth? They trusted me.

It's a complex choice, and it's meant to be. I always thought the original endings were brilliantly bleak. Before the extended cuts with additional CGI. I'll hide them in the spoiler since I'm sure there's people who are playing it for the first time with the Legendary Edition Blue starts the cycle again with the reapers, green turns everyone into emotionless robots, red undoes all the progress you've made but puts an end to the reapers once and for all. I loved it.
There was also the shoot the starchild option, and I remember there being theories about Shepard being indoctrinated and everytime he sees the boy, it's the reapers trying to brainwash Shepard into doing their bidding.

Horrible nerds who everyone should hate and no-one should ever listen to will yes. They're already losing their horrible nerd shit about it. But like, let's be honest, those people make the world a worse place. Objectively worse. And there are hardly any of them. So I think it's unlikely the show will be heavily influenced by them. FemShep seems most likely simply because there's a chance to be "progressive" without really trying and the only objections will come from laughable neckbeards, but so long as they get someone with charisma, who cares? Liara seems likely to be the love interest either way. She's by far the most common overall and more importantly it's easy to fit with the story. Again though it's about what works for the show.

They trusted me. Its trivial to retcon the Geth living, and even what we know of ME4/5 suggests that retcon will be in place. Even immediately after ME3 people raised the issue of whether the Geth would actually die because arguably not all of them actually used Reapertech. So I don't think that's really a huge worry.

Remember the ghost busters neckbeards who lost their shit at the remake, so much that the current (reportedly pretty poor,) remake the director essentially told them was made just for them.

They are loud, but here's the thing. With Ghostbusters or Star Wars you have a movie seen by potentially billions and certainly hundreds of millions of people, and from that, you get a tiny shit residue of loud assholes.
ME1-3 while legendary didn't even sell very well and were probably talking less than 20m people having played them at all, including Legendary Edition.
So it's tiny number, like truly tiny. With SW and GB you needed both 4Chan misogynists (and similar) and these weird losers to work together to even cause the noise they did. 4Chan misogynists are no longer viable. Instead of getting platformed, they're ignored and they're no longer even common. So with a much smaller pool of twats and no assist from the misogynist crew, there's nothing to actually worry about.
Also remember how people acted before ME4/5 was announced and people realized it canonizes Destroy. They loudly declared no game could ever canonize anything about ME and they would refuse to play any one which did and just endlessly went on about that shit.
10 minutes after people realized Destroy would be canon, 95% of them shut up and/or acted like they'd never been against that.
It'd be the same here.
They cast some cool people to play the main crew and most of the whiners will instantly turn around, because it's a fait accompli.
Just don't cast Chris Pratt.

I thought the Mass Effect series sold really well? It was only Andromeda that didn't meet expectations.

So let's get to casting it.
Ryan Reynolds as Garrus
Danny DeVito as that weird pudgy alien on the Citadel. The one with the face mask.
